MIKE SORENSEN ~ SALES 641-745-7949 mikelpi@yahoo.com

Greetings, Well, I guess maybe I might not be the sharpest guy in the world, but I have never heard of a Derecho storm. Have you? Derecho definition; straight line winds. My definition is darn destructive straight-line winds. Several days after the Central Iowa Derecho, I headed cross country to Ames for the Governor’s steer show. As far as I could see, it looked like a war zone. I’m talking several days, and the state and county trucks were still pushing limbs away with snowplows, roofs were gone, and I saw grain bins smashed and crumpled like I used to smash an aluminum beer can, and scattered through fields, with piles of corn where the grain bins were. My sympathies to all those folks affected by those storms. If I never see another one of those Derecho storms, it will be too soon. So, has anybody but me noticed we are all about acronyms these days, for me it is mind boggling and darn near frustrating. The only acronyms I’m sure of is CHB, CAB, and LOL after that I’m lost. We have all heard of CHB and CAB, and we all know that they can present a darn near perfect piece of meat. LOL! At this point you are all “Laughing Out Loud” thinking what in the heck is he writing about, yep somewhat confusing isn’t it. I have come up with a new one, MSFB. I guess you can think about that for a bit. Probably one of the better steaks I have eaten in a while was a MSFB/CHB, and I prepared it on my BSG (Black Stone Griddle). It was deadly tender, seasoned ok (I’m still working on that, if he only knew, Jim Baldridge has helped a lot, just need a little tweaking on my part), and the flavor was just unbelievable. I’m going to say MSFB/CHB is leading the charge in a tight race with RCCB and CHB, CAB are

closely chasing. Just to make sure MSFB/CHB was as good as I said it was, I BSG’ed it twice, once with a ribeye, once with a T-Bone. MSFB/CHB, is Mike Sorensen Family Beef / Certified Hereford Beef, born, raised, and fed for ol’ Mike and family. RCCB (is Ruby Cattle Company Beef), home bred, raised and fed, and ol’ Mike snuck in on a couple batches, it was deadly good also and my family enjoyed it a bunch. If anybody has anymore ???B’s I’m sure ready to try it. How’s my first attempt at acronyms? I sure hope that our youth got to enjoy as much as they could of our make-believe show season. Believe me it’s hard to shut down a fair, I have been on our local fair board for 30 plus years and 29 of them have been business as usual and 2020 has been a real challenge. I sure hope that 2021 will be back to normal. For those of you that don’t know the NWSS is not going to happen for 2021 hopefully to be back for 2022. It is our hopes that we all have a safe and bountiful harvest. PLEASE be safe. Please pray for our country’s leaders, our first responders, special prayers for our law enforcement folks, and as always, Keep our military and their families in your thoughts and prayers. God Bless

ously thought and Corn goes back over 4.00 per bushel in December or January. Take a look at the wide divergence between the Fats and Feeders: This last Federal Reserve meeting and press conference

by Michael Seek, Fox Group at the Board of Trade

Cattle markets have the usual summer-time demand for beef on the ropes now for two reasons. One, the outside restaurants may not have the same traffic on chilly evenings and the inside areas are limited on seating for social distancing rules. Secondly the grills in folks backyards tend to get used a lot less once temperatures drop and leaves turn and fall. Cattle prices on the Chicago Board have been favorable, however, Cattle industry folks should chalk the amazing basis up to a falling US Dollar and funds pushing Cattle markets similar to Silver and Gold this last several months, looking to ride the ‘inflation train’. However, the US Dollar is now ripe for reversal and you’ll see in the chart below that the Dollar downside versus upside potential looks exceptional and manufacturing data corroborates same. Look at the US Dollar below:

We have shared with you over the last few years on each monthly write that ‘Divergence’ is your most valuable ‘hedging tool in the shed’ and you’ll see below that the divergence between monthly Fat Cattle and monthly Feeder Cattle is rather dramatic and does not bode well for Fat Cattle since they are the weak link on a comparative basis. While Fat Cattle have traded nicely on the cash market over par for much of the last month or two you need to be prepared for a 90 to 95 cash Fat market in the autumn, and especially so if the ‘Derecho storms’ took out more Corn in Iowa than previ-

a few weeks ago was the last one before the upcoming Presidential election and Chairman Jerome Powell had his worst ‘performance’ ever and clearly did not care for the spot he was in when asked pinpointed questions about monetary policies that for many years are just not achieving the desired results. The Chairman’s biggest mistake was likely when he said that they ‘the Fed’ were ‘satisfied’ with the current policy on purchases of treasuries and mortgage-backed securities and the markets were looking for more than that, hence the reason you saw the Nasdaq and SP500 go down hard the end of that day and you now have seen Apple stock looking wob-

WWW.MCTAVISHSTEELWORKS.COM Hedging of your Cattle operations is usually best achieved by forward contracts and the use of the Board livestock instruments in Chicago and hedging looks very important even if Trump wins again since the Wuhan virus may rear its ugly head again when an early winter comes and forces everyone to abandon social distancing by default. Education is key and so we encourage you to reach out to us at the Board in Chicago and ask for available information that can be shared with you via your iPhone or iPad. So again, all of the foregoing back-drops and unknown events on the election and vaccine front shows all of us the need to hedge asset classes’ near and dear to your family or corporate grain and livestock operation. If you are already a bona-fide livestock producer you can probably think of many times over the years that you wish you had used airbags to hedge your hedge on your Cattle on the dirt or simply taken the hedges’ off. If you would like to get a new perspective on livestock hedging by integrating USDA wholesale beef pricing and you would like to receive on a complimentary basis for two full months by email both ‘Daily and Weekend ‘Livestock Reports’ that includes Fat and Feeder Cattle Valuations, and respective beef cutout valuations then call Michelle White at call her at 312.756.0931 and share your email address with her in confidence. And remember, hedging livestock with Chicago Board Cattle futures still has risk of loss and is not suitable for all livestock producers and investors who desire to hedge their livestock on the dirt. n

COMMENTARY

ONLINE SALE

Cody’s Column by Cody Crum

I often get asked the question, “should I do an online sale?” I, like many of you, asked myself that for many years. So, I thought I would dive into a few things that go into having an online w w w. s h o w c a t t l e c o n n e c t i o n . c o m sale that may help you in deciding on when to pull the trigger on having your first online sale. First and foremost, determine whether there is the demand for your cattle. I am not saying you Daughters of 206B and Heifers need to have 50 people beating your barn doors down to buy your like Diva Jones Sell! calves each fall, but a developed customer base is the first ingredient to having a successful sale. Secondly, and arguably, the most important are your pictures and videos. Do not take shortcuts on this. I cannot stress that enough. I often see very good cattle get overlooked because the picture and videos do not do them justice. In today’s world, a lot of buying decisions are made off a picture and video. Get your cattle well presented on picture day so they Selling 12 Simmental & Percentage will look the part. Talk with the photographer you are going to Simmental Heifer Prospects work with on how they want the picture pen set up and anything Customer SUCCESS! else they recommend to help everything go smoothly on picture Savannah, Missouri day! Paying a little more or making 816.387.7694 , Bill Graebe the extra effort to get them done 816.387.7694 , Scott Cowger right will pay you dividends in the 765.541.0738 , Tim Schaeffer end. Choose an appropriate sale company for what you are trying to accomplish. There are many out there and they each have their advantages. Make that decision based on what sales team can best help you achieve your goals. I know this article is in a livestock advertising publication, but I am going to tell you not to overlook advertising just because it is an online sale. Especially if you are trying to develop your brand – people need to know you are having a sale. An argument to this is that many times pictures are not completed in time to make an advertising deadline. A big advantage to an online sale is having the luxury of taking your pictures and videos closer to the sale date. I always recommend getting a couple pictured early to help advertising through print and social media outlets. The last thing I will touch on is probably where I see people go wrong the most. The sales company you use will help by getting you some new bidders and buyers but do not count Sorting Systems • Portable Corrals on them to get all your cattle sold. Pick up the phone and Working Chutes & Alley Ways get people to your place and interested. Relationships in this Rectangular Tube Corrals business are key. People buy from people that they like. If you The Wing • Cattle Box put in the work to at least get some people interested, it will be a much more relaxing sale night for everyone involved. I hope this helps give you an idea of a few things that go into a successful sale. I wish you all the best of luck on your sales this fall and would be happy to assist in any way I could. 5 Tips for Maximizing ROI from Calf Vaccinations An effective vaccination program helps set your calves up for success. Vaccine is a buzzword in today’s news headlines as the world awaits development of a human vaccine anticipated to reduce spread of COVID-19. But for cattle producers, the discussion of vaccines and building herd immunity is nothing new, since vaccines are health management tools commonly used among livestock. “Whether talking about people or cattle, the goal of a vaccine is to provide protection to individuals and the larger population, herd or community that those individuals are a part of,” explains Marissa Munson, DVM, a technical service veterinarian for the U.S. Cattle Business Unit at Huvepharma. “As a result, vaccines can prevent outbreaks, decrease the number of cattle getting sick and minimize costly performance losses and treatment interventions. That said, for vaccines to fully work their magic, several factors and management applications should be considered. Munson emphasizes, “Vaccines are an important part of a preventative herd health program, but they are not intended to be a silver bullet to make up for poor management. When you invest in a vaccine—and the time to administer it—you want to optimize its return in the animal and return for the producer.” Thus, for producers planning vaccination protocols for their cattle, Munson offers a quick review to boost return on investment with these five tips: 1. Assess and evaluate vaccine needs. Whether you’ve vaccinated cattle for years or are considering adding a vaccination protocol to your herd, Munson advises taking time to assess and evaluate your vaccine practices. Consider what type of diseases you want to control. What type of animal will you be vaccinating (weaned calves, heifers or mature cows) and what are the different disease risks they’ll be exposed to? Including your veterinarian in this vaccine program assessment and development process is critical to better understand your herd’s risks and what vaccine products best fit your needs. As a general recommendation, Munson says, “Look for a vaccine that covers major

respiratory and reproductive viruses like IBR (Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis), BVD (Bovine Viral Diarrhea), PI3 (Parainfluenza), and BRSV (Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus), and work with your veterinarian to determine other diseases that impact your geographic region and type of operation.” Each operation will have different vaccine needs depending on herd goals. 2. Minimize stress before, during, and after vaccination— especially for calves. “Ideally, you want to vaccinate cattle at times of lower stress to produce a more effective immune response,” explains Munson. For young calves, this means giving initial vaccines 2-3 weeks before weaning and following with a booster a couple weeks after weaning. She explains that the goal of an effective calf vaccine program is to build immunity before weaning to minimize the risk of calves getting sick during this stressful time. 3. Ensure proper vaccine handling and storage. “Vaccine storage is critical as they are temperature and light sensitive. Handling and administration can also impact vaccine efficacy so paying attention to this is a must,” said Munson. She emphasized that vaccines must be kept cool, and as a rule recommends only bringing as much vaccine product out of the refrigerator as will be used in a couple hours and keeping it in a cooler. “This is especially important for modified live vaccines (MLV), which are fragile,” said Munson. Additionally, Munson stresses the importance of preparations beforehand including reviewing label use and expiration dates on vaccines, labeling syringes for certain product use and using clean needles so different products do not get mixed together. Leftover doses in opened bottles should be discarded at the end of the day, especially when the lid has been punctured with multiple needle holes, risking contamination. She notes that taking these steps can help minimize post-vaccination lumps and bumps that may occur at the injection site. 4. Don’t overlook nutrition and hydration. Munson notes that if calves are healthy prior to vaccination, they often handle the vaccination process without extra hurdles. Equally important is balanced nutrition and offering access to fresh, clean water. Munson explains, “We know that nutrition can impact the vaccine response. So, having calves eating and hydrated before and after vaccine administration is key to battling postvaccination challenges calves may face.” 5. Communicate vaccine efforts and market cattle health

OPEN ANGUS HEIFERS SELECT GROUP OF COW/CALF PAIRS "5 Tips" continued from pg 30 through the supply chain. “Vaccinations and investing in herd health can be a win-win for everybody from the cowcalf producer to the packer. We know vaccinated calves are healthier animals, and they perform better,” stated Munson. She continued by emphasizing the importance of communicating the steps that have been taken to boost health and reduce risk on calves moving through the marketing chain to capture the added value “When we do what’s best for cattle and communicate those benefits effectively, it helps the whole beef industry and builds consumer confidence in our ability to supply a safe, quality product,” Munson concludes. NEWS RELEASE

Iowa Farm Bureau Designates Sorensen Friend of Agriculture

GREENFIELD, IOWA – September 17, 2020 – Ray “Bubba” Sorensen of Greenfield has been designated a “Friend of Agriculture” by the Iowa Farm Bureau Political Action Committee (PAC). Sorensen is seeking House District 20 seat that includes Adair and Guthrie county and portions of Dallas and Cass county. “I always have been and always will be a friend.” Sorensen said. “From showing in 4-H, to working in livestock advertising, to helping my dad out on his farm and getting started with my own small acreage. I’ve lived with and loved our rural life and values. I’m excited to get back to work on Ag issues and work through the struggles with the pandemic and weather. I’m looking forward to working with our farmers who are innovating and working on improving our water quality in the state,” said Sorensen. “Candidates earn the Friend of Agriculture designation by supporting issues that directly impact Iowa’s agricultural economy,” said Erik Oberbroeckling, a Clayton County farmer and IFBF PAC Chair. “With one in every five Iowa employed in agriculture and ag-related industries, it is essential to have strong advocates for agriculture representing Iowa.” About Iowa Farm Bureau The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation is a grassroots, statewide organization dedicated to helping farm families prosper and improve their quality of life. More than 159,000 families in Iowa are Farm Bureau members, working together to achieve

COMMENTARY

Lefty’s Logic by Eric Lee

By now I’m sure it is common knowledge that the 2021 National Western Stock Show has been cancelled. Like many others, I am saddened by this news. Denver is quite possibly my favorite week of the year. For one, I get out of Wisconsin in the dead of winter! There is nothing like standing in The Yards in 60 degree weather looking at a pen of Simmental bulls with the mountains behind you! Or going up to the Yard Bar and watching playoff games with cattlemen from all over the country. On a good note, it sounds as though NAILE and The American Royal are still a go. It has been really amazing to see how resilient and resourceful the livestock industry has been. With every show that has been canceled or postponed another two pop up. After canceling the Wisconsin State Fair, a group got together and put on an awesome replacement in the Wisconsin Livestock Expo. There must have been 10 hog shows in our area that just popped up over night. Most of them had 500-700 hogs. You could tell everyone was just eager to get back to normal and show their stock. It looks like that resilience and optimism is carrying through into the fall sale season. Sale reports are beginning to trickle in and they are looking great. Many sale averages are up from last year. Livestock Plus would love to help you market your cattle this fall. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the LPI team with any of your advertising needs. God bless, Eric “Lefty” Lee 608-295-5312

Fighting FOR HIS LIFE, AND Winning The McDonough family has attended the annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair in past years, but never expected to utilize the charity it benefits. Then, in the spring of 2019, 14-year-old Michael McDonough became very ill very quickly. Michael has suffered from epilepsy for the past several years, and a medication change triggered a serious reaction called Stevens-Johnson syndrome. A canker sore and rash were the first signs something was wrong. The next morning, the family headed to the Mayo Clinic and within 48 hours, around 90% of his body was “burned”. Michael stayed at Mayo for three days until he was taken via helicopter to a burn unit in St. Paul to treat the worsening skin condition. After two weeks at the Regions Medical

Center Burn Unit, Michael went into septic shock and nearly died. The decision was made to put Michael on a ventilator and transfer him to the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Children’s Hospital. The family said their goodbyes, unsure whether or not Michael would survive the trip. Although his blood pressure dropped to 30/20 at one point, the McDonoughs credit the university hospital with saving Michael’s life. During Michael’s stay at the hospitals in Minnesota, the McDonough family utilized the nearby Ronald McDonald House. “Our family actually stayed in three different Ronald McDonald Houses throughout Michael’s journey. In Minneapolis was our first experience at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, and then we spent most of our time at the Ronald McDonald House near the Stead

Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City and then we actually stayed for 2 months out in Boston, Massachusetts while Michael was in the hospital at Massachusetts General,” says Amy McDonough, Michael’s mom. The Ronald McDonald Houses were a blessing to the family during a very difficult time. Michael’s parents, Amy and Ken, a veterinarian in Oelwein, stayed at the houses, along with their older two children, Dan and Mary. “There was always a family member with Michael, 24 hours a day throughout several months in the hospital, and it was just nice for us to be able to have a break and go to the Ronald McDonald House,” says Amy McDonough. Michael kept his eye on the prize throughout his illness. His main goal was to get back to showing cattle. The idea of “going to see all my buddies at the shows, "Fighting" continued of pg 56 October 2020

IOWA CATTLEMEN’S ASSOCIATION

going around during sale season, seeing all my friends” kept Michael fighting. “Last year, Michael was asked to be a participant in the Governor’s Steer Show but his health was still not the best. He was recovering from several months in the hospital and still had continued procedures and surgeries that he needed to have done. He was very weak, and he was actually in a wheelchair and just wasn’t able to participate last year because he was just coming back from Massachusetts General in Boston from a tracheal surgery,” says Amy. But the opportunity to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House charities really appealed to the family. The house’s services are free of charge for families like the McDonoughs. “Our hope is, at some point after all of Michael’s medical bills are paid, that we

can make a donation, because honestly it (the Ronald McDonald House) saved us tens of thousands of dollars. And right now he has several hundred thousand in medical bills that our insurance company is not paying for,” says Amy. This year, Michael was chosen by the McDonald’s Restaurants of Iowa as their celebrity, and he had the opportunity to show Colt, a calf raised by Ethan Thimmes of Mechanicsville. Team Colt took home the showmanship honors in the 2020 Governor’s Charity Steer Show. The entire experience, Michael says, was a lot of fun. “It was pretty awesome. They did a good job with him. Colt was fun to show and good family to be around and it was a good time,” he says. Michael and the entire McDonough family are truly thankful for the Ronald

McDonald Houses and the opportunity to take part in the Governor’s Charity Steer Show. “I just can’t thank everyone enough who helps, who contributes, who volunteers, who are on the staff at the Ronald McDonald Houses throughout the country, but in particular the one we stayed at in Iowa City. It was a wonderful experience. It was our home away from home at a very difficult, trying time. The staff was just outstanding and I can’t say enough about the volunteers and everyone who helped with the Ronald McDonald organization,” Amy says. Michael is back to doing what he loves, showing cattle, and recently launched McDonough Show Cattle with his brother, which you can follow on Facebook at www. facebook.com/McDonoughshowcattle/.

Governor’s Charity Steer Show Raises Over $250,000 Despite months of uncertainty, the Iowa cattle industry and supporters came together on August 15 for the 38th annual Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show. This year’s event raised over $254,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa. The show and auction, which were held at Iowa State University, are an annual fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald Houses in Des Moines, Iowa City and Sioux City. The houses are located near hospitals and provide a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children. The Iowa Beef Industry Council and Iowa Cattlemen’s Association sponsor the annual steer show and auction. Since its inception in 1983, the Governor’s Charity Steer Show has raised over $4.1 million for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa. This year’s event included

23 steers, the Iowa youth who raised them and celebrity show persons. Governor Kim Reynolds was expected to participate, but storm relief efforts after this week’s Derecho kept her from the show. First Gentleman Kevin Reynolds showed in her place, taking home Grand Champion honors with the steer raised by Tyson Von Glan of Vail. Reynolds’s steer was chosen by judge Chad Holtkamp of West Point, Iowa. Dr. Dan Thomson, chair of the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University, served as the Showmanship Judge. Thomson chose celebrity Mike McDonough of Oelwein, who showed a steer raised by Ethan Thimmes from Mechanicsville. McDonough’s family utilized the services of three different Ronald McDonald House Charities since the spring of 2019 when Mike faced an extreme health

challenge related to Stevens-Johnson syndrome. The steer raised by Rylie Timm and shown by Tate Schafer and Boone Myers was chosen by voters on Facebook as People’s Choice. Tate has a rare brain tumor, but celebrated his thirteenth birthday and 20 months post-diagnosis earlier in August. Emcees for the event included Bob Quinn and Andy Peterson of WHO/WMT Radio and Michelle Rook of WNAX Radio. The auctioneers were Phil Schooley of Bloomfield, Russele Sleep of Bedford, and Jared Miller of Leon. Catching bids in the ring were Mike Sorensen of Livestock Plus and Jason Lekin from Tama Livestock Auction.

County Cattlemen Give Back The past 12 months have not been easy for cattlemen. I could list everything that has gone wrong in that time frame, but it seems much easier to recall the negative events rather than the positive ones. So in this column, I’d like to focus on some positive things that have happened recently. The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and the Iowa Beef Industry Council held the 38th annual Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show in August. Over the history of this event, cattlemen have raised over $4 million for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa, and the growth has been exponential. In 2010, the Governor’s Charity Steer Show raised just over $108,000 to be split between the Ronald McDonald Houses in Sioux City, Des Moines and Iowa City. Five years later, the auction raised $223,486 and the total has continued to grow since that time. Despite all of the challenges with the economy, the recent storm, and the cancellation of the Iowa State Fair, this year’s GCSS raised over $254,000. Several of our county organizations were involved in the event in 2020. From grilling for the participants, to sponsoring a steer, to purchasing a steer, these counties were instrumental in making this year’s Governor’s Charity Steer Show a success. Thank you to: • Crawford • Iowa County County • Jefferson • Davis County County • Des Moines • Johnson County County • Lee County • Franklin County • Louisa County • Floyd County • Mahaska • Henry County County

Monroe County County Sioux County • NW Iowa County Story County Cattlemen’s Van Buren Associations At the same time, cattlemen around the state came together to help their friends and neighbors in need following the August 10 Derecho that decimated much of Iowa. As crews of linemen descended upon the state to restore power, phones and internet connections, ICA began fielding requests to feed the repairmen as well as the residents of Iowa facing days without power and fridges and freezers full of spoiled food. County cattlemen from around the state came together in the affected areas to help out, grilling countless burgers the first weekend after the storm. Some counties also distributed beef sticks to clean-up crews and repairmen. We’d like to recognize the following counties for their efforts: • Black Hawk • Jones County County • Linn County • Benton County • Marshall County • Buchanan • Mitchell County County • Tama County • Clayton County • Washington • Hamilton County County • Jasper County Last but not least, we have many county cattlemen’s associations that take part in the annual Carcass Challenge through the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. As the only state-wide fed beef competition in Iowa, the ICA Carcass Challenge showcases the state’s genetics and feedyards, while providing non-dues revenue for the association. Counties who donate a steer are helping fund ICA’s advocacy efforts and

educational events. Last year’s county donors include: • Adams County • Jasper County • Audubon County • Linn County • Buchanan • Lyon County County • Madison County • Butler County • Mahaska • Carroll County County • Cedar County • Marion County • Clarke County • Mills• Clayton County Montgomery • Clinton County County • Crawford • Mitchell County County • Muscatine • Dallas County County • Decatur County • Polk County • Emmet County • Scott County • Fayette County • Sioux County • Fremont County • Winneshiek • Greene County County • Ida County • Worth County • Jackson County This is just a small glimpse of the ways that our county cattlemen’s organizations give back to their communities, those in need, and the beef industry as a whole. We applaud all of our affiliates, whether they are listed here or not, for the great work they do year-round!

Wow, how have we already reached the first of October? One thing is for sure, time flies when you are having fun and getting out to go through good livestock and meet even better people. Riding with Mike the past month and a half I have been extremely blessed to get to do both! Over the past 20 years, I have spent part of every fall on the road with my dad, wife, and now Mike looking through calves. One thing that always hits me hard today is the cost of good livestock and how it can sometimes discourage a young exhibitor. One thing I personally have always enjoyed is finding or helping my customers find “the underdog” so to speak. Maybe it’s that full sister to the $30,000 high seller that, on sale day, is just a bit skinny but is sound at the ground and will be just deadly next fall. Or the maternal sib to a past champion steer that hasn’t quite haired up yet but has all the other necessary parts to be a great one. I think it is super important to remember that if you don’t have that huge budget, the only thing price has ever 100% guaranteed is ownership. Now, I’m not taking anything away from high sellers because usually they are awesome creatures but at the end of the day, you can always find a good one that fits your budget. So, that’s why this month my hat goes off to “the underdog!” If you need any help marketing your livestock or finding your next project, please don’t hesitate to give me or any of our sales team a call! God Bless, Austin Sorensen 712-310-3788

HAPPY FALL and FOOTBALL SEASON! It’s by far my favorite time of year! Tucker is a freshman at Creston High School and we are enjoying watching #50 and his teammates! He’s playing offensive tackle/defensive end. Taylor threw us for a loop and decided to try volleyball, along with dance! I have to say, I admire their dedication to their sports and livestock! Right after school they have practice and then go straight to the farm to work on show pigs for the fall shows. I don’t see much of them! My baby girl started preschool! Believe me I know she was “ready.” It’s just hard when there is another layer of feelings people tend to forget for our family and especially this mama bear! Do not misunderstand, I’m so grateful for teachers that will inform me of everything about her days, but y’all have to remember I will not ever get a first hand account from Treva, at least for this period of time when she is still nonverbal. For example, if someone was kind to her or if she got to be a line leader or maybe even got a reward, I won’t get HER version of what happened. I will have to rely on other people to tell me. The little things people take for granted with a preschool child that is verbal, I don’t get when I send my baby. I guess I’m asking for everyone to remember preschool is different for some, and I’m definitely not saying that we don’t appreciate the encouragement because we do, more than anyone will ever know! Just be conscious that maybe when you sent your child they could tell you what happened throughout their day, we don’t get that. That’s by far my biggest struggle with sending her, and I know God will see us through! Just be patient with this weepy mama the next couple of months!! By the way, she absolutely loves her teachers, Mrs. Dinham and Mrs. Jones! She lights up when we ask if she wants to go to school and they send us pictures of her enjoying her day! Please continue to keep our military, our nation, and all of our leaders in your prayers! Also, remember to exercise your right to VOTE on November 3rd! Have a fantastic October and please do not hesitate to call/text any of our LPI reps to help you find the livestock you are looking for www.livestockplusinc.com. CALVING EASE SIRE SUPREME. He is one of the easiest calving purebred Simmentals in the breed. The last 4 years we have had over 100 heifers calve out of him and have almost never had to pull a calf. They are stylish, correct with growth, performance and eye appeal. Our cattle have to do a lot of walking, we are fussy about good feet and legs. There is an epidemic of back curly toes and toeing out on the front legs in both Simmentals and Angus. He is the most correct bull you will find. He is a Duracell by Dream On x Built Right. His dam was the Grand Champion female at the American Royal. You NEED to Try Him.
