In 1960, Earl Bohmont gave Rod and Randall (Pete, the two oldest of six Hollman children) an orphan heifer, Pride Effie 120. Rod still has cows that trace back to that original cow. Throughout the years, all six of their children have been involved in showing cattle in 4-H. It’s interesting to note that in 1960’s, Henry was the 4-H Leader of the Lone Star 4-H club and in the 70’s and 80’s, Rod was leader. The Hollman family has continued to be involved in leadership of that 4-H club as Rod’s brother Richard was also a leader and now Rod’s daughter Cheri and Richard’s daughter Kellie maintain that tradition of passing cattle knowledge onto area youth. Henry dispersed his cows in 1984. He passed away in 1994 and Marjorie followed two years later in 1996. Rod served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1967 to 1971 and he and his wife, Linda were married in 1969. Rod continued raising Angus cattle after his discharge in 1971. Linda grew up raising Herefords, her father Marvin Bohmont owing a herd of Horned Herefords near Martell. In 1976, Rod & Linda purchased 80 acres adjacent to the farm where he grew up. Later on they expanded their land ownership by purchasing 70 acres that remained from his Mother Marjorie’s (Spellman) family, land which had been in the family since 1868. Rod and Linda currently own 360 acres and rent another 350 acres. Rod and Linda have three children, Greg, Scott and Cheri and seven grandchildren. Rod, Linda along with
children Greg and Cheri, and their children run a herd of approximately 60 cows near Martell and an embryo program with Gerald Dunbar at Taylor, NE. Currently, Rod and Linda’s grandchildren are the 4th generation to raise and show Angus cattle. Two of Henry’s other sons, Richard and his wife Sondra and their partner Bob Pavlish have an Angus herd near Hallam. Ray and his wife Vickie run a small herd near Kramer. Rex and wife Ann are also involved. Their herd of 56 head of registered cows are of the following bloodlines: Pendleton, Roundup, Millbrae Bluestem, SQ Credence, Summitcrest Complete, and Ironwood New Level. Current sires used are Hoover Dam, RB Tour of Duty, Bush’s Unbelievable, WAR Alliance 9126, Pendleton. They market by Private Treaty and also through an Annual Bull Sale, the 2nd Monday of March in Crete at the Crete Livestock auction. In addition to raising Angus cattle, their farming operation consists of corn, soybeans and hay, with some custom haying. Rod and Linda have been active in the community, with Linda teaching Sunday school in Martell for over 40 years and she belongs to the local Extension club and United Methodist Women and serves on the Administrative Council of the Martell United Methodist Church. Rod also serves on the church council, is a member of American Legion Post 294 at Hallam, the Lancaster County Farm Bureau, the Norris Public Power board, the Goodwill Fund board and in the past he’s been a member of the Lancaster County Fairboard and the Nebraska State Fair. Rod and Linda plan to setup an operation succession plan in order to turn over the program to their children and grandchildren as they prepare to retire.Hollman Angus Farms welcomes everyone to Southeast Nebraska and hope you enjoy the tour. .

Machholan Angus
Jim is the third generation raising cattle on the farm. Traditionally they had always raised commercial cattle that were sold as feeders until 1981 when we purchased the first Simmental bull and Simmental cows with calves and began selling bulls by private treaty. In the late 1980's we began crossing them with Angus bulls and realized the value of Angus genetics. We always kept replacement heifers but in the early 2000's began purchasing purebred Angus cows/heifers. We tried to purchase top females from Angus breeders. Most of the cows trace to the following sires: Jindra Double Vision (natural & AI), Jindra Dynamite, Jindra Testimonial (both natural and A.I.) A.I. sires used in the past include: Chisum, Networth, Upward, Lead On, Bismark, Pendleton (AI sires used in the past). Their commitment to improving the herd of bulls and females in their breeding program has been an ongoing investment. Their focus has been to select elite genetics through semen
