To the Dohes, their Lincoln, Kansas ranch is part of a family tradition of breeding and raising cattle, including South Devon and South Devon composites, that has been carried on for over 48 years. In an operation that currently runs over 200 South Devon Angus cross cows, Larry and Sharon Dohe give credit to their family, daughters Darlene, Angela, Wyvonne and Sondra, grandson Ethan Lyne, nephew Kurt and Larry’s brother Wayne, who recently passed away. “We first started with South Devons because we had heard about their disposition and their marketability,” Sharon said. “Our girls would lead the calves and bulls all around the yard when neighbor kids came to play.” “This tells you just how gentle the breed is,” she said. “Our youngest girl would lay on the bulls when they were laying and enjoying the sun.” “We have been raising cattle since Larry got home from Vietnam in 1971,” Sharon said.
