Q&A
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” -Aristotle PROSPER Magazine had the distinct pleasure of getting to know Prosper High School’s new Head Football Coach – Brandon Schmidt. He’s a family man, has a passion for the student athletes and a lifetime of love for the sport. He is excited to build upon the tradition of the Prosper football program. We are excited to introduce you to him, and look forward to watching him succeed on the field!
Who is Coach Brandon Schmidt? I was born in Richmond, Texas and grew up a coach's kid in the southeast Texas region. I attended La Marque High School in La Marque, Texas where my Dad was a coach and I played offensive line all through high school. I then went on to play college football on the offensive line at Sam Houston State University, where my senior year I was the starting center and elected Team Captain. I've been married to my wonderful wife, Katie, for 14 years. We met in her hometown of La Porte, TX, which was my first coaching job out of college. Katie wasn't living there at the time, but her sister introduced us and the rest is history. Before moving to Prosper, we lived in La Porte for a couple of years and then in the Austin area for the past decade where I coached at Cedar Park High School. Katie works in IT, although she is a former teacher/school administrator, and we're fortunate to balance both of our careers with three children who bring a lot of fun and surprises to our life. Our two girls attend Cockrell Elementary where Sophie (8) will be a third grader and Sabrina (6) will be a 1st grader. The girls enjoy ballet, soccer, and summer track. We are also foster-to-adopt parents so, not able to be pictured, is our son Carter (5 months) whom we hope we can finalize adopting in the coming year. We are passionate about kids, obviously! As a family, we enjoy spending time with friends, live music, cooking, traveling, camping, and being outdoors. We are active members of Prosper First United Methodist Church.
