New Student Organization Petition

Students who are interested in starting a new student organization must submit the New Student Organization Petition through Experience | Shark Nation during the first three weeks of the semester. The petition process is determined by LIU Promise and outlined below:

1. Review the list of active organizations online to ensure that an existing organization does not have a similar purpose. 2. The proposed organization must meet the following criteria: a. Be open to any LIU Post student who wishes to participate; b. Be beneficial and necessary to the enrichment of the LIU community; c. Fill a unique niche in the LIU community; d. Be supported by a qualified advisor who is a faculty or staff employee of LIU Brooklyn; e. Be supported by sustainable student leadership; and, f. Align with the mission of LIU 3. The New Student Organization Petition will request the following: Submit an interest list of at least 15 students with signatures and LIU ID numbers. Students must be enrolled at the LIU Post campus at the time of submission and in good standing with the university.

Organizations are able to upload signatures to the online petition via Experience | Shark

Nation.Answer the following questions a. How will your organization benefit the campus community? b. How will your organization foster personal growth and development? c. How will recognition aid your organization in accomplishing its individual mission? 4. Provide the following information: a. The name of the proposed organization. b. The mission statement of the proposed organization. (A mission statement should include the purpose and values of the organization to its members and the LIU community, and set out the main objectives the organization will accomplish. The mission statement should be brief and clearly stated.) A successful mission should be one to two sentences long. c. A proposed budget for the upcoming academic year. d. A complete roster of officers and members. (Must have a minimum of ten (10) members, with five (5) of those members consisting of a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and senator)
