Long Island fell to Robert Morris, 81-70, in the Sewall Center. Junior Aurimas Adomaitis led four Blackbirds in double-figures with a career-high 17 points, but it was not enough to overcome the Colonials who shot 56.6 percent from the floor. Long Island (2-4, 1-1 NEC) used an 8-2 run early on to take a 16-15 lead on a three-pointer by freshman Michael Culpo with 12:28 to go in the first half, but that was LIU’s last lead of the night. Rob Robinson tied the game on a foul shot and sparked a 17-4 spurt for RMU. Ifeanyi Ehirim capped the run with a dunk to make it 32-20 with 4:30 left in the half. A lay up by sophomore Kyle Johnson cut the deficit to seven, but Jimmy Langhurst scored the last five points of the half to put the Colonials up 39-27 at the intermission. LIU pulled within six early in the second half after Adomaitis scored three points and a three-pointer by Johnson was followed by a pair of foul shots from junior Jaytornah Wisseh to make it 41-35. That was as close as the Blackbirds got as the Colonials’ lead eventually swelled to 67-51 following five straight points on a three from Gary Wallace and jumper from Mezie Nwigwe. Adomaitis scored three straight points to start a run for the Blackbirds as they pulled within 69-60 on a trifecta from Johnson with 3:22 to play, but the Colonials scored the next five points and never trailed by fewer than 11 points from there. Adomaitis finished the night 6-of-7 from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line to go with six rebounds. Johnson and Culpo added 14 points apiece, while freshman Julian Boyd added 11 points and eight rebounds. LIU shot 55.6 percent in the second half, but it could not overcome 29.7 percent in the first half. Robinson paced Robert Morris with 15 points. Wallace and Langhurst added 13 points each, while Nwigwe chipped in with 10 points. The Colonials shot a blistering 56.6 percent overall and 50.0 percent from three-point range.
