When Garden City resident Liz Kohart received a call from the producers of the TV show “George to the Rescue” to help renovate a house for a man living with Parkinson’s disease, she didn’t hesitate to answer. It would be her second time working with the show, which airs on NBC TV. “This is the second time I’ve worked with the show, which helps remodel the homes of deserving people,” said Kohart, owner of Liz Kohart Interiors. “They are such a great group of people, and it’s a feel-good thing to know you’ve changed somebody’s life for the better.” Kohart originally helped redesign a home on Vassar Street in March of 2017 to help a family whose daughter was diagnosed with microcephaly. In this particular case, the daughter of a Garden City resident, Joe Honerkamp, wrote into producers of the show last year, asking them for help to make her father’s home more handicap
accessible. “Joe, who lives with his wife on Maple Street, has a hard time getting up and down the stairs of his home because of his debilitating condition,” said Kohart. “We helped to make things much more functional for him by transforming the living room area, where he’s been sleeping, into a bedroom and bathroom combination.” Using her honed interior design skills, Kohart renovated the living room area by adding new draperies, furnishings and other accessories to update the room. Howie Tarr, owner of Tarr’s Home Improvements Inc., worked on the construction of the home and John Viscardi, of JMK Architectural Services P.C. helped design the new living space. The demo day took place in October of last year and the reveal day was held in the first week of November. The new episode of “George to the Rescue” will air on Saturday, March 30 on NBC TV at 9:30 am and 7 pm.
