The assessment of student ICT capability across the whole school is a vital element to the school’s economic competitiveness and above all, the attainment of ICT capability by students. As the coordinator of ICT at your school, it is therefore, of utmost importance that you construct an effective policy that outlines the school’s goals in student achievements in ICT. Through exemplar portfolios supported by teacher practices in the classroom a viable record of achievement can be created and used to ensure that progression and continuity in student learning occurs. A policy of assessment must be developed which reminds teaching staff of their rights and responsibilities in relation to the assessment of student ICT capability. Through the contribution of the whole staff towards the policy, there will be cohesion and agreement in what must be accomplished by the school and a complete sense of ownership will lead to better classroom practices and sense of pride in everyone.
