ON THE ROAD
Sleek, stylish, luxuriant and fast. What a pleasure to drive modern cars. Pity many of us lack basic driving skills and etiquette. As many as 1.25 million lives are lost every year and 50 million suffer injuries and disabilities due to road crashes around the world.
These are not merely statistics. Behind each number is a person, a family, a friend and a story of how life can change in an instant.
Hana was on her way home from college.
A beautiful life. Cut short.
ABRUPTLY.
Road traffic fatalities and injuries are a growing public health concern.

ROAD SAFETY REPORT
Road accident deaths are expected to increase by 67% by 2020.
For children aged 15–17 years, there is no greater threat to their lives than a road
traffic crash road users cause of death
.
49% of all traffic deaths are among
vulnerable – pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
Fifth leading
by 2030.
Unless action is taken, the road will be the most dangerous place on earth for our children.

VISION 2021
2 3 4
Creating a new infrastructure and road traffic culture of safety.
Raising awareness for proper behaviour on roads. Creating and enforcing stringent traffic laws and rules.
Educating the next generation of responsible road traffic participants.
And your support is essential!
Your daughter got her first driving license!
You feel PROUD. And SCARED.
Don’t you?

TEXTING = 4.6 SECONDS OF DRIVING BLINDFOLDED. Sending or reading a text takes the driver’s eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent – at 88 km/h – of travelling the length of an entire football field, blind! Texting while driving increases the risk of crashing by more than 23 times. And there is a four-fold increase in crash risk when talking on a mobile phone while driving.
No Call, Text, Post or Glance Is Worth Dying For.
You would protect your child with your life, wouldn’t you? Car seat use reduces the risk for death to infants (aged <1 year) by 71%; and to toddlers (aged 1–4 years) by 54% in passenger vehicles. Booster seat use reduces the risk for serious injury by 45% for children aged 4–8 years when compared with seat belt use alone.
Take Care
An adult pedestrian has less than 20% chance of dying if struck by a car at less 50 km/h but almost 60% risk of dying if hit at 80 kn/h. Respect speed limits. Respect life.
Total Stopping Distance in Good Conditions
No one is impressed.
THAT DRINK MAY END UP BITING YOU.
One for the road could be the end of the road for you. Drinking and driving just don’t mix. That’s probably the advice you would give to your growing children, wouldn’t you? DUI is a serious offence. You risk your life, a hefty penalty and a prison term. Say no and be the designated driver, sleep over, or take a cab home.

YOUR CAR IS NOT A SALON
Putting on the perfect cat’s eye and ombre lip in the car, may result in an extreme makeover. Layer on the colors before leaving home. 16 May 2017
Driving up close and flashing your brights in someone’s rear view mirror is simply unacceptable.
The road is to be shared, not used to scare.

horn and on the wheel.
THE WEAVER
In a rush? Or is that your idea of smart driving? Weavers are a menace on the road. Please slow down and maintain lane discipline.
THE SQUEEZER
Cutting-in front of other drivers just to get a few meters ahead? There is no justification to jump a queue. Be courteous and patient.
THE TAILGATER
Riding too close to another car’s bumper is too aggressive and dangerous, increasing the chance of a pile-up. Maintain a safe distance.
SENSIBLE DRIVING IS NOT A
It’s pretty dumb to block the handicapped parking for your convenience.
Show Some Respect
There are better ways to signal which way you are going.
Use Your Indicators
Crawling in the fast lane is as dangerous as speeding!
Even the toughest need to protect their head when riding two wheelers.
Shift to Slower Lanes
Secure Your Helmet Properly
On the crosswalk, pedestrians have complete right of way.
STOP.
Making UAE Roads Safer
With a goal of reducing road fatalities from 6.1 to 3 per 100,000 population, newly amended Federal Traffic laws will implemented soon, covering a comprehensive range of traffic discipline and violations.

STORIES THAT MATTER
STORIES THAT INSPIRE
There are a multitude of social, environmental, health and community issues that we grapple with, everyday. And the important choices we make. Yet, most of us remain insular bystanders. A silent audience. Watching. Doing nothing. We must bust this inertia by scripting compelling stories for positive social outcomes.
It’s not just about the problems, the negativity and chaos. There are a vast number of corporates, institutions, community groups and individuals scripting stories of change in the UAE and across the world. Stories that inspire, stories that enrich. We rarely get to hear of these transformational endeavors. Shouldn’t we?
What’s at stake. What can be done. How you can contribute.
What’s being done. Why it’s important. Positive impact created.
