Asthma effects your airways, causing inflammation and increased mucous production which can cause you to have shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, increased cough and wheezing. It is cause by dust, mold, pollen, chemical agents, smoke, allergens and sometimes exercise. This pamphlet will teach you how to take care of your asthma and be in charge!!

It is important to take your asthma inhalers daily. Sometimes you may need to take it more often especially if you have a cold. Use your peak flow meter daily and keep a journal. Follow your asthma action plan, this will guide you to see how sick you really feel and if you need to visit your Doctor.

A peak flow meter measures the air you breath out of your lungs. Set your meter to zero. Take a big breath in and blow out, like your blowing up a balloon. Do this 3 times and record your highest number. This will be your average.

Outcomes: 1. Recognize your symptoms: shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, increased cough and wheezing. 2. Know when to call your Doctor or call 911 by followng your ashtma action plan. 3. Keep a record of your peak flow results to determine if you are getting sicker and needing to use your inhaler more.
