About me‌the author of this website:

I started investing in the Canadian markets almost 30 years ago in 1989. Since then, my primary employment was working as an engineer for 20 years but my true passion was and has always been the stock market and specifically, Canadian small cap stocks and micro cap stocks. I left work in 2010 and have been trading stocks full time ever since. From the time I left work, I have been studying the technical side of the market in greater detail and over the years I have learned what works and what doesn’t. I have developed some of my own technical indicators and have combined these with more tradition methods to get an edge on the market. I have always felt that a real time trading portfolio, dealing primarily with Canadian small cap stocks, was something that was missing on the internet and as such, I decided to start this site on Aug 6, 2018. Portfolio details Each year the Canadian Stock Portfolio (CSPortfolio) starts with $100,000 in cash on Jan 1 (excluding the maiden year of 2018 which started on Aug 6th). I use a proprietary technical analysis method developed by myself along with more traditional technical analysis methods to select and trade stocks for the portfolio. The CSPortfolio aims to outperform Canadian and US markets and performance is provided above compared against the TSX Composite and S&P500. Security types and position sizes The portfolio trades primarily small cap stocks and micro cap stocks listed on Canadian exchanges; however, all securities listed on Canadian exchanges may be purchased including large cap stocks and leveraged and inverse ETFs. The limits on position sizes are 10% of portfolio value for individual stocks; however, ETFs may be purchased up to 20% of the portfolio value. These maximum limits apply at the time of purchase but may be exceeded as a result of capital appreciation. There is no maximum limit on sector weightings. Security exchanges Securities are purchased from one of three Canadian exchanges and are specified as follows; 

Security XXX purchased on the Toronto Stock Exchange = XXX.t

TSX Venture Exchange = XXX.v

Canadian Securities Exchange = XXX.c

PORTFOLIO PERFORMANCE & VALUE

I update portfolio performance at the end of each week on Friday after the market close (shown graphically on the home page above). Furthermore, I update the portfolio value and value of individual positions daily after the market close and these are shown on the Current Portfolio page. The portfolio value is based on the bid price for each security at the close of each day. TRADE POSTING POLICY I post trades in real time on the Recent Trades/Transactions page. I enter the ask price as the purchase price at the time I post each purchase. Similarly, I enter the bid price when I post a sell order. I enter a $5 commission for all buy and sell trades. I may delay my comments for trades at the time of posting but I will provide all comments within the same trading day. When I close a position, I post the trades associated with that security on the Closed Positions page. Furthermore, I update the Closed Positions page at the end of each trading day. I also post dividends and stock conversion for buyouts on these pages. COMMENTS FOR EACH TRADE A brief set of comments are provided with each trade which may highlight some of the following items when deemed appropriate; 

If the trade is an initial purchase – I provide a brief description of what the company does or what sector it falls under;

Reason for Trade (RFT) – I provide a brief description of why I purchased or sold a stock;

Insider trading – I may note any significant insider buying or selling near the time of the trade;

Sector strength or weakness – a comment on the sector strength or weakness may be provided;

Liquidity – I may reference the 75 day average volume (L75) as an indication of liquidity;

Recent news of interest – Links to news releases may be provided if they are recent and I think they appear relevant to the stock’s strength or weakness.

PORTFOLIO TALK Portfolio Talk is a page provided within the menu that is meant to highlight the current market environment. I discuss sectors showing strength or weakness and how this impacts the

CSPortfolio investment strategy going forward. I update this section when I believe a relevant market or sector change has occurred. SUBSCRIBER NOTIFICATIONS When you become a member, you are automatically included on a notification email list for all new portfolio trades and portfolio talk entries. If you prefer not to be on this list, you can select unsubscribe to notifications, located at the bottom of each email sent. BLOG POSTS I provide blog posts at the end of each month that highlight some of the notable Canadian small cap and micro cap winners for that particular month. These posts are provided to serve as a historical reference on which stocks were performing well on Canadian markets for each month. CSPortfolio may have traded/invested in some of these stocks. The link to this blog/post page is located in the footer. Year end and new year continuity I assign a new cash balance on Jan 1 of $100,000 each year. Hence, I deduct stock positions held at the end of the previous investing year, that I want to carry into the new year, from the $100k cash balance. By doing so, I am able to achieve continuity of stock positions from one year to the next. Our more services as:     
