Lisa Brooks (Abenaki) is a professor at Amherst College, teaching English and American studies. She loves to engage with students and give lectures, and she does so both inside and outside of the classroom.


A Lifelong Learner

As a lifelong learner and lover of the land, Lisa Brooks (Abenaki) has accomplished a lot already in her life. She is a Guggenheim Fellow, and her book, Our Beloved Kin: A New History of King Philip’s War, won the Bancroft Prize for American History and Diplomacy.

Lisa Brooks Abenaki a member of the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi, and she is passionate about land reclamation and Indigenous history. Her research and work has earned the Bancroft Prize for American History and Diplomacy and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
