First of all, welcome to Linnaeus University and to the Faculty of Technology!

In this handbook you will find useful information about your study period at our University. This short guide is complementary to the general guide for exchange students and the information contained is only for international students at the Faculty of Technology. Please, keep it to hand, as it can be helpful later on.

Introduction The Faculty of Technology at Linnaeus University consists of 9 Departments and administration. We are 350 people employed and we educate 2500 full-time students per year. The research is carried out in close collaboration with the South Swedish corporations. The Faculty is located in both Växjö and Kalmar.

Exchange Students – Changes in your study plan Students who enter Linnaeus University as exchange students are expected to enrol in and pass full-time credit loads. This currently totals 30 ECTS (European Credits) per semester.

We understand that not all credits may be transferable to students’ home universities, but students are still expected to enrol in and pass 30 ECTS per semester, regardless of the number of credits being transferred. We want all students, incoming as well as outgoing, to view the exchange program first and foremost as an academic program.

If you decide to change one or more courses that you have been accepted to before leaving your country, you have to submit a new request for an approval of your new study plan. This has to be done within one week from your arrival. This means that the procedure is not automatic!

Please, ask the International Office how to apply!

Remember to enclose all documentation that will confirm your eligibility for the courses you choose (an updated transcript of records including even the courses you completed in the last spring and fall semesters at home university is mandatory!).

We recommend informing even the coordinator and/or the international office at your home institution about the changes in order to be sure that the new courses will be recognized once you will be back home.

Obtaining a student account You need a student account to begin studying at Linnaeus University.

Via your student account, you can register, access course materials, access your e-mail account and other IT services. You obtain your student account at lnu.se/student. Contact the IT department if you need assistance: it-support@lnu.se or +46(0)480–44 67 00.

Register for a course Register for a course via your student account the week before the course begins or during its first week. You need to be registered in order to study the course and for access to the schedule. If you are conditionally admitted, you will not be able to register. You must show, at the latest at the beginning of the course, that you have fulfilled the prerequisites for your programme or course. See Lnu.se/ en/education/Before-your-studies/ for more instructions. If there are issues with your registration, contact your education administrator.

Please note that if you are a tuition fee-paying student, the conditionally admitted status could also depend on if the payment of tuition has been processed. For all questions regarding Tuitionfees, contact tuitionfees@lnu.se.

Programme and course syllabus Your programme syllabus, which is your educational plan, describes your programme and which courses are included. In the course syllabus you will find the prerequisites, objectives, contents, examination and literature. Your programme syllabus and course syllabus can be found at lnu.se.

Schedule Once you are registered to a course you can access your schedule via your student account. Please note there is no schedule for online courses. Instead follow the instructions given in the course room on MyMoodle.

The learning platform MyMoodle MyMoodle is Linnaeus University’s digital learning platform, where you have your programme room and your course room with information about your educational programme. Log in via student account. See page 9 for further instructions in MyMoodle.

To take an examination at Linnaeus University You must sign up for the examination session within the sign-up period; there is no possibility to sign up after the last date.

The sign-up period and the examination date can be found at salstentamen.lnu.se. If you run into issues with sign-up, contact your education administrator as soon as possible before the deadline.

If a student fails an examination, there is the possibility of taking a re- examination later in the semester. The teacher of the course will inform the student concerning the re-examination date. Please note that it is not possible to do the re-examination if you already have passed the course, to try to get a higher grade.

International possibilities As a student at Linnaeus University, there are several opportunities for internationalisation. Exchange studies means that you study for one semester or one academic year through one of the about 700 exchange agreements that the Faculty of Technology and Linnaeus University have with universities across the world.

Study counselling With a study counsellor you can obtain individualised assistance with career guidance, planning your studies, electives within programmes, approved leave from studies, cancellation of studies or changing programmes.

Career Guidance – LNU career counselling Service The Career Counselling Service at Linnaeus University supports you when you are thinking about how your education, your experiences, work experience, and personal qualifications are to be summarised and become a powerful CV with a job application. Contact: karriar@ lnu.se Learning support for your studies If you have some form of disability you can make use of the support measures for your studies that are available. Some examples of this include support in taking notes, assistance from sign language interpreters or being provided extended time for examinations. Student Welfare Office The Student Welfare Office has a preventative focus in its work relating to lifestyle issues and offers counselling. Contact information and activities can be found at Lnu.se.

Student Lounge At the Student Lounge, you can get help with general questions regarding international opportunities, admission, tuition fees, housing, career guidance, study counseling and student health. The Student Lounge is located in the main building in Växjö (house H, room 1313).

Download the LNU app Via the Linnaeus University Student app you can receive notices from your programme room, course room and information from the Faculty of Technology. That way, you will never miss important information.

The app also includes: • Map: a function where rooms and other facilities are searchable • Books: you can search for books at the university library

• Staff: search for your academic supervisor, teacher or other staff member you are looking for here

Linnéstudenterna The student union, Linnéstudenterna, is there for you. They are involved in making the quality of your education better, and making sure your time at the university will be eventful with real social involvement. Student associations at the Faculty of Technology Student life is not only about studying; it is also about meeting new people, learning new things and growing as a human being.

Becoming engaged in student life can provide you with knowledge and experiences that may prove to be invaluable when you are looking for a job later in life.

The Student Union’s student associations linked to the Faculty of Technology are: Lambda, SPIIK, VÄXT and WÄDUR.

Guide MyMoodle Your MyMoodle course page is central you course. Here you can access lectures and additional material as well as communicate with your teacher(s) and other students. This manual covers basic functions you will need to navigate your course.

Find your course • Go to Lnu.se/student • Click Log In

• Your courses are listed under My Courses (the ones you are enrolled in)

• Click on the course in question (remember to register for the course) Find the contents of the course in the middle part. On top, you find key links that are important in the course e.g Ask about the course, forum and general information. In the bottom of the page are the different stages in the course that include assignments, documents etc. Each course page is unique as teachers and subject determines the arrangement and layout.

On the right and left are the various Blocks. It is common, on the right side, to have Latest news and Resources. The left side normally has Navigation and Preferences. Use the navigation window to navigate around in the course page or list of courses you are enrolled in. Go to Preferences to edit your profile.

Smarter collaboration This is a guide with a collection of digital tools for use by students.

The guide constitutes a selection of simple and effective tools that facilitate collaboration on- as well as off-campus. The tools are to be used voluntarily e.g collaboration on a document, collection of links, networking and meetings. The tools on this list are not supported by the university.

• Click on Preferences, Edit profile

Upload picture Add your picture by clicking User picture. The picture uploaded to Current picture appears when you post in the forum. The benefits of adding a picture are, for instance, it makes is it enables the teacher to identify a student in a forum or assignment as well as class roster.

Communication in the course At the top are several icons are necessary in facilitating communication in the course.

Latest news Information from teacher to students. Teachers post general information such as news and reminders.

Questions about the course Students can ask questions to the course instructor(s). All questions and answers are visible to the teacher and students in the course.

Privately message your teacher For private messaged between a teacher and student

CafĂŠ A forum for students who want to engage in free discussions Handing in an assignment During the course, you will most likely be required to upload a file as part of an Assignment. The image below shows an example an Assignment. The settings might vary and this is set by the teacher.

One setting that the student must both fill in and certify, is that the work being uploaded is yours. There could also be an HTML-editor added to enable you to write your answer. The image below describes and shows the two ways of how to hand in a file.
