THE WAY BACK HOME

SLINGSBY’S THE TRAGICAL LIFE OF CHEESEBOY

When a boy discovers a single-propeller airplane in his closet, he does what any young adventurer would do: he flies into outer space! But as it turns out, he is not alone up there... Branar Téatar and Denmark’s Teater Refleksion have joined forces to produce The Way Back Home, based on the hugely successful book by Irish author Oliver Jeffers. This new show without words combines puppetry, original music and the distinctive and evocative design of Teater Refleksion’s Marianne Agaard to realise a beautiful and imaginative story on stage.

THE SPEKS

THE KING AND THE MOCKINGBIRD

The Speks present a lively show of nursery rhymes and sing-along songs set to acoustic Irish music which will have adults and children jumping in their seats! They live on a mysterious island off the coast of Co. Clare called Glasses Island where everybody wears glasses! The Speks have won a Parents’ Choice music award in the US where their music has been described as ‘Riverdance for toddlers’ and they encourage audiences to sing, scream, clap and dance along during their performances. This will be a great fun event for children and families. Sing along and sing aloud!

Widely considered one of the best animated feature films of all time, and a masterpiece of French animation, The King and the Mockingbird (Le Roi et l’Oiseau) is a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about a tyrannical King ruling over the kingdom of Takicardia. At night the figures in the paintings on his walls come to life and attempt to escape from the palace, assisted by the spirited, brightly feathered Mockingbird. Originally completed in 1980 after thirty years in the making, this wonderful animated film screens here in a new restoration with English soundtrack. Unrivalled in its technical achievements, this witty, imaginative and charming film, with beautifully realised animation, is a perfect union of narrative and imagery.

(See EXHIBITION section at the end of the brochure for details. Closed during readings (see READINGS page) and Saturday 25th October 1-2pm & 3-4pm.)
