City of Sydney Competition entries prepared with James Stockwell. Stage 2 was a selective competition with winners from Stage 1 and 3 other firms selected by the City of Sydney and required establishment of a consultant team, consisting of; archaeologist, structural engineer, aquatic engineer, quantity surveyor. 2nd place in Stage 2 of the competition
Existing landform and traces of past bathing facilities were drawn into a solution which offered the chance to create a spatial organisation that would provide the swimmer with a bathing experience unique to Sydney. The pool docks against a series of sandstone platforms which have been integrated into circulation and relaxation spaces in addition to creating
special pockets in which to house the learners and toddlers pools and a spectator seating bank. The facilities building is an elegant and simple harbour shed, timber clad with a layering of parts. It is light and transparent and forces an awareness of the unique qualities of the site in which it sits.
