Nebraska Teacher Recognition Day allows everyone a chance to pay tribute to a teacher whose efforts may have gone beyond the basic transfer of information normally associated with the job. It encourages people to honor a favorite teacher – from the present or the past. Nebraska Teacher Recognition Day began in 1983. It is celebrated the first Tuesday in March to correspond with National Teacher Day, as declared by Congress in 1953. The “Thank You Teacher” contest is designed to recognize a few of the many outstanding teachers in Nebraska.
