The woman focused intently on chopping the vegetables in front of her. She could hear the knocking on the door, but she figured that it might go away if she ignored it. Her knuckles were white, gripped tightly on the handle of the knife. A snap echoed past the chopping. She dropped to the floor to hide, holding the knife defensively in front of her. She heard the creaking of the door, followed by the tapping of shoes on the tiled floor. As she saw the stranger come around the counter, she jumped up and lunged forward. She lodged the knife in their chest. Recovering from her shock, she saw her husband bleeding out on the floor. Breathing a sigh of relief, she kneeled down and took his wallet and phone out of his suit pocket. Removing the knife from his stomach, she used a cloth to wipe it clean. Taking the items with her, she grabbed the car keys from the corpse on the floor and left the house.
