Silent Prayer On Wednesdays at 5pm there will be thirty minutes of silent prayer. In Chapel. Complete silence. Suitable for absolutely anyone.

Lent Course Can’t see the point of praying? Want an introduction to Ways to Pray? Come to some or all of these four practical sessions. We’ll be using art, music, words and silence as ways into prayer. Beginners or seasoned pros will be equally at home. Mondays 9pm, in weeks four to eight. Chaplain’s Rooms. Cake and cocoa.

Eucharist Everyone is welcome at these services. Christians (of most denominations) receive Holy Communion. The Chaplain will happily talk you through it, just ask. And if there’s anything you want prayer for, please let Mel know – or leave a request on the anonymous Prayer-board outside Chapel.

Chaplain and Student Welfare Coordinator (Mother) Mel is here to laugh with those who laugh, and weep with those who weep. She is there for everyone, with no regard for whether you believe in God or not. Feel free to tell her whatever is on your mind: faith, doubt, sex, friends, work. You can find her in Chapel Quad 5:2, at chaplain@lincoln.ox.ac.uk, on (01865) (2)79789, or by collaring her as she’s walking around College. Don’t hesitate.

Some Chapel People Chapel Wardens: Mark Williams, Bernadette Stolz, George Hunter, Edward Spencer Roman Catholic Representative: Lucia Turner Christian Union Representative: Amy Jones Chapel Precentors: Joseph Mason and Thierry Hirsch

Space If you need some peace and quiet, Chapel is open for much of the day. Between 2pm and 5pm on weekdays it’s locked (as it gets lots of visitors then). St Michael at the North Gate and St Mary Magdalen should be open and quiet in the afternoons.

Discovering Christianity (with food) There are lots of reasons why you might be interested to know about Christianity – historical, cultural, familial, sceptical. On Friday lunchtimes at 12.45 we’ll eat lunch together and discuss our book for the term. Unapologetic by Francis Spufford is written in a lively style that makes no assumptions and takes no prisoners.

Confirmation If you’d like to find out about Confirmation, contact Mthr Mel for a no-obligation chat. We have a very jolly Bishop coming to Confirm next term. Might you be one of the candidates?

Almsgiving Last term we raised £1110 for Asylum Welcome. Can we do the same for Oxford Poverty Action Trust? They support the very needy people you can see on Oxford’s streets. Remember how cold February can be. There is an almsbox in Chapel for your offerings, or you can give at Sunday services. The cover shows the College’s guardian owl, which was placed in its current eyrie to deter birds from fouling the front quadrangle and eating the Virginia Creeper. In medieval bestiaries owls signified sloth. A fitting mascot.
