Rationalism High-rise in Downtown Area Hangzhou, China Studio Work/Individual Instructor: LOU, Yuhong Sep.2011-Dec.2011 In order to make more conspicuous the building, whose site faces one of the main streets in Hangzhou City, an attractive form appears to play an essential role in the designing proposal of this particular high-rise building. Sunflower symbolizes an active and positive way of life, which right matches the gist of Chinese culture. To the material it may concern, three colors of glass are decided to constitute the enclosure of highrise building with stainless steel as the main skeleton for supportive structure.

Corn High Rise

Corn Building can be said to be the other name of this project. According to the theory stated by the well-known architect, Aldo Rossi, the architecture practise should be related to the field and city texture. Usually high-rise building does not have much to do with the concrete configuration for the reason of limitation of technology and the significant role it played in the city is the effect for city skyline. One is hiding itself among them, while the other is standing out of the surroundings. And this one choose the latter one.

Curtain Walls Generation Process There is one magic thing about life which is totally different from any other things. That is sprouting and growth. This project represents exact this meaning. Like Peter Eisenman seeing the building as an object or human body, this project see this building as life body. It can grow and reflect the surroundings as time going by. Industrial curtain walls are a simple, costeffective solution that facility the building with nice view and flexible configuration. They are flexible by nature and diagrams here show how the facade generated via imagination and parametric technique step by step.

Transformationalism Tourist Center for Westlake Hangzhou, China Competition Work/Individual Instructor: WANG, Lei Jun.2012-Aug.2012 The site is located in downtown Hangzhou, which is surrounded by a complicated circumstance with multi-functional and multi-time buildings. There are historic buildings of old town lying in the commercial center of the city. Moreover, the most well-known scene spot, West Lake, enjoys its location close to the site The proposal is like a showing entrance both as Tourists Center for West Lake and as an exhibition center for traditional culture, which includes calligraphy, silk and tea culture.

Key Words: West Lake Square Shape Transformation Historic Reservation Three boxes Space

The designer expects that people can not only get information via big screens on the site with the representation of messages and dramas , but also experience the variety of culture, which promotes the tradition to move on from generation to generation. The main square takes advantage of the shape of the Lake as its configuration and glass material with changeable of its color. These above prompts it as another mythical West Lake lying along the street.

Value Central Park Re-Evaluation New York, the U.S. Studio Work/Individual Instructor: Toshiro Oki Jun.2013-Aug.2013 New Boundary, New Life Expience This proposal aims to break away the boundary between the old grid and the new one with the way of developing a new space for fruitful citizens' activities around to make this area much more energetic and meaningful. Taking advantage of the height variation on the boundary, Lush Space is divided into two to three "layer", which represents an activity respectively at specific points. It is such intermediate space where people can experience from the present to the past, feel the power of time and the hidden "layers" history of the city. Thus people could make use of it to creat their own rich activities to make their own lush life.

The Process of City Evolution is definitely the the process of time acumulation. The Transitional Boundary can creat much more activity beyond imagination. Transformation of the City Grid and permanence of Central Park creat the boundary in-between. Walking through the boundary, you experienced from what it is now to what it was in the past for the city. The height variation between the City and the park is more than the altitude aggregation, but the time accumulation.

Evolution Each city has its own process of developing economy and infrastructure. The N e w Yo r k C i t y has the same way. The normal process guarantee the basic balance of every place of the whole one. It follows the r ule which is that one developes faster and then one catches up. However, usually some "accidents" are kept to add the richness for one city's layers.

Central Park C e n t r a l Pa r k c o u l d be seen as a miracle of New Yor k. In this Mahattan Island which represents commercial, uneasy and hustling state, it is hard to think of the significance for the existence of such large greenery. It stands out but everyone would like to get in.

Section Layout at Specific Location in Central Park As time going on, the city layer is changing while the park layer stayed still. Therefore, as to New York City, there is a gap between the city and the park. The project, is to build up the connection between the park and the City part to add energy for this place. Taking advantage of the gap space, a newly energetic amazing place comes out. It not only plays an important role in the connection between different city layers, but also is a terrific public place for rest and social activities. For that reason, this re-evaluation is resurrection for city boundary as well.

Form follows Function Years ago in the 20th centur y, this saying was popular with modernist architecture while lost its popularity in the 21st century as well. It seems like ever yone kept it as principle and then rejects it as it is too cliche. But who could say that cliche things cannot create? The rule is not using cliche but recreate it within its meaning as this example. We create the membrane structure system with flexible function need.

Usually, it is busy and is close to local p e o p l e ’s l i fe , w h i c h means it should both

In addition, market is itself a mix as well. How to weave this complex together, how to mix these mixing factors into one mix, that is the question. With space and form exploration, I wanna figure out various possibilities. With physical testing and possible suggestion of human activities, I try to help myself get to that point where events infuse in the architecture as natural objects as well. This project is aimed to weaving all the possibilities with space. Historic Madrid Madrid is the capital of Spain with rich source of historic herits. As city develops, some parts of the city changed its appearance almost totally, while the other parts of historic buildings were reserved well as they were in the past. However, it is becoming a problem that is how to make the old and the new appearance blend with each other well. This project is talking about this problem. The site is in downtown Madrid where used to be the most prosperous area whlie it is now facing the desolation because of the narrow roads into which the main vehicles cannot go. Now the market with the civil center on the east side is going to be reconstructed with the main idea for keeping the historic site with new function as elder center. Site Model

Detail Drawing When designed to reconstruct the market, this site face the coordination of the old market and the new elder center. How to make the elevation and space look as a whole is the question. From the facade to the specific material, each element should keep harmony with each other. As it is known to all, the best way to keep balanced is to choose similiar ones while the other option is the conflict ones. Requirements for materials and products identified on srawings are described in detail in the Specifications. Here curtain wall with specific glass and red clay tube (which is used to match the colour of market facade) was choosen to mark the elevation of new elder center. It is an open space, free space as well as independent space for activities of the elder.

The project focuses on the crafting of custom components in pursuit of an iterative and flexible system for designing. We focus on modifying the existing building and re-imagining a new design at both the component and the building levels simultaneously. We try to adapt our design ideas to existing conditions of our chosen site or building. We’re interested in designing a changeable panel which brings various watching experience according to people’s position. Plus, these changeable panels enrich the interior lighting, directions towards park, and expressions of buildings. So the breathing facade becomes as it is.

Seminar: History of Tectonic Study

Detailed Joints This project is aimed to study the tectonic structure of Renzo Piano's famous architecture ---- Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center. As it is known to all, these buildings have a curved shape that references traditional Kanak constructions but here rather than the traditional w ov e n v e g e t a b l e fi b r e , t h e s e buildings are made of wooden ribs and slats. Here we choose wooden pieces and screws as the main roles for this detailed model. In our opnion, what fascinates us for this tectonic structure is exact the joints among these exterior ribs. This is the sample of the detailed relationship between wooden pieces with the steel joints, which helps study TECTONICS in reality.

Painting & Photography In the long term of architecture studying, art is one significant way of thinking. Painting and photography are two means to show how we think of this world. When I see this world, architecture can be seen as the method I change this world, while art can be seen as the method with which I discover the secret of this world. By means of ar t, I was able to approaching those buildings with bear ty in my eyes. Those works represents my idea and design concept rooted in my mind.
