WHY

Collecting is a way for me to catalogue all of the items that have significent memories. They may seem silly to the untrained eye, but if you just ask, I can tell you why I keep them around.

ATTENTION!

After many card games and snacks at the boys hall next door to mine, we settled on playing some table top games. “Risk” wasn’t one of them, but a little toy soldier fell to the ground from the box. I asked one of the boys if I could keep it because it was so tiny. They said yes, so I can keep that small memory of a fun night with me.

I’M 20

My parents came to visit me on my birthday. We went to dinner and then went shopping on Mass Street. A tiny store was still open and we had fun looking at all the trinkets around it. I saw this tiny, Japanese frog toy and said to my mom “I’m 20 now and I still want silly toys”. She laughed and decided that she was determined to buy it for me because I was still her little girl.

I bought this miniature at the toystore in Lawrence, Kansas. They had many to choose from, but I chose the one that called to me the most. Closing my eyes, I picked blindly. When I opened them I saw this tiny kiwi bird. Best 99 cents ever spent.

DUMB DONKEY

This little fella cost 50 cents from a Dillons toy machine. I was curious one day and had the change so I tried to get something fun. When I opened it, I saw a orange creature with huge buck teeth. After thoroughly laughing for a bit. My roommates and I decided it was most likely a donkey. We ended up giving him the name “Dumb Donkey.

Shopping in a dollar store for white elephant gifts, my sister and I chose to grab a couple of candy bars during checkout. Under the counter was a tiny lego set for this duck. As it was only a dollar, I felt the need to buy it. My sister and I came home, wrapped our dollar store gifts and then built this duck together.

COLOR PENCI One of my hometown friends came to visit me and we walked all over Mass street looking for things to do. We went to Ondori (ramen noodle place), and Alchemy (coffee shop and bakery). We ended the day at Wonderfair, just looking around until I saw this itty-bitty set of color pencils. They were too cute to pass up and now I have that memory with my friend as well.

RED ILS

This little thing was bought and made at a barnes and noble near my hometown. While it is the oldest addition to my collection, it was added way later because he was lost for some time. My friend and I built this lego set together in a Barnes and Nobles starbucks and bought a slice of cheesecake while we made it.

This one is the newest addition to my collection. My roommate found this left behind on the bleachers after a basketball game and brought it home. When I asked her about it, she gave it to me and told me to keep. I guess I was a better home than gym bleachers.

THE LAST STOP OF THE DAY After bringing my roommate up to stay with me and my family over fall break, we decided to have a trift/antique shopping day around my hometown. The last stop of the day led us to a little antique store with a dusty old basement. Walking down the creaky stairs, I made eye contact with this little cup. I had to buy it. This has to be my favorite item in the collection.

As you can see, my collection is fairly new and small. But, this is something that will keep me collecting from now on. Each one of these pieces to my collection all have a tiny bit of memory from my life and I love having them around as a reminder of all of the laughter and love behind each one.
