INTERVIEW

RENEE SIMPSON PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO OUR READERS:

I'm Renee Mitchell Simpson, registered dietitian, plant-based chef, wellness retreat host, travel agent, wife and mom to one beautiful 14-year-old mini diva. TELL US ABOUT THE WELL DIVA LIFESTYLE BRAND:

Well Diva Lifestyle was created to help ladies design a life that allows them to live happy, be healthy and stay fly. The purpose is to teach black women in particular to be Divas about their health and wellness. We have no problem being picky about and spending money on the things that make us look good on the outside, but when it comes to health, we as a people often put that on the back burner or want to be cheap about it. The Well Diva Lifestyle brand started out as a blog and a local Bay Area (CA) meetup group called Green is the New Black, where we would visit vegan restaurants and have green smoothie parties. Because travel is one of the things that really makes me happy I decided to add wellness travel and found that more and more ladies quickly became interested. Last year I started the Facebook travel group Fly Life Travel, and became a travel agent. We now have over 10,000 group members, one to two wellness trips per year, and 4 international trips for women who love to travel and want to connect with other ladies to see the world with them. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE TRAVEL EXCURSIONS THAT YOU’VE CURATED FOR YOUR GROUP?

Our first wellness retreat was to Sedona, Arizona. The first weekend in February is the anniversary of my youngest daughter's passing so I wanted to do something that would bring me joy at that time. The greatest thing I could think of was to do a wellness retreat, which I had thought about doing for years. I pictured a quiet and beautiful place with a lovely spa, and myself teaching plant based cooking, discussing black women and autoimmune diseases, and the mind/body connection.

We would need space for yoga, and possibly include a 5k or 10k walk/run. When searching for the perfect location I mentioned it to a total stranger I met while registering for a half marathon. She suggested Sedona, as it was in her words, "so serene". She didn't know that my daughter's name was Serene, so it was truly a serendipitous moment. So far we have visited Sedona twice, Los Cabos, Mexico, Dubai, Napa Valley, and we're scheduled to visit Los Cabos again, and tour Morocco later this year. Our largest group so far is 26 of us going to New Orleans for our "Essence of a Fly Girl' getaway. In 2019 we will visit Austin, Texas, possibly Sedona again, Dubai, tour the Greek Islands, and visit Paris during their fall fashion week. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE REGARDING MAKING HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES WHILE TRAVELING?

I love this question because my method is so unorthodox. I usually lose weight while traveling. That's because it's so much easier to eat healthy when on vacation. Think about it. Someone is preparing the fresh pressed juice and wonderful salad bar for you. The hardest part about eating healthy is the preparation. Once that is removed you really have no barrier. Last year on my family trip to Puerto Vallarta, we enjoyed the fresh juice bar every morning, and all the fresh fruit we could eat. Fatty foods like pizza and cake are always easily accessible at home. So I don't make a big deal out of those when traveling. But this year when we visit New Orleans, I'll make an exception. I must get my mouth around at least 1 po boy, as I cannot find those at home. WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU AND YOUR BRAND?

Fly Life Travel is about to celebrate one year with an amazing getaway to Los Cabos, Mexico. This adventure filled trip, coming up in September, is also an opportunity for ladies to have that epic birthday celebration they didn't get a chance to plan this year, or last year. So I'l be celebrating a milestone birthday, and so will a few of the ladies who have registered. And, it's well overdue but I'd like to get my online store up and running. This will be a place to find all of the wonderful health and wellness products the ladies are introduced to by our sponsors during the retreats, as well as the many cooking gadgets and culinary brands I love to use. You'll also be able to grab one of our Fly Life tees that the ladies seem to love, as well as items to make travel easier.

INTERVIEW WITH

AMANI SAMS PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO OUR READERS:

My name is Amani Sams and I am a journalist and educator. My passion is writing and interviewing young women of color and showcasing them in a positive light in my online publications. I am also the Editor-In-Chief and CEO of Aman Magazine, Aman Magazine Latina, and Teen Aman Magazine. Each month these publications provide insight on the latest news in beauty, fashion, and entertainment in the Atlanta area. WHAT INSPIRED YOUR PROFESSIONAL PURSUITS?

I have always been inspired by Oprah and I love how she has paved the way for many journalists of color like myself. I fell in love with journalism in the 9th grade after I enrolled in the broadcast journalism elective class. After interviewing several students and teachers around the school I knew it was something that I wanted to do. From there I earn the morning new anchor position at my school. I continued my journalism endeavors in college by writing for different websites such as Peach State College Sports. WHAT DOES "WOMEN EMPOWERMENT" MEAN TO YOU?

Women Empowerment to me means helping your fellow sister and uplifting other girl bosses. WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU IN 2018?

This August I will be representing Georgia in the Miss Black America pageant in Kansas City, Missouri. HOW CAN READERS CONNECT WITH YOU ONLINE?

INTERVIEW WITH

PROF. LATANYA WHITE

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO OUR READERS:

Hey, my Glambitious sisters! I am Professor LaTanya White, a mindset and business development coach dedicated to helping more women of color journey from a place of fear, doubt and insecurity to a destination of clarity, confidence, and competence as business owners. TELL US ABOUT A DEFINING MOMENT IN YOUR ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY:

A defining moment in my entrepreneurial journey actually was one of the most soulcrushing experiences I had faced professionally. I was accused of unethical business promotion after inviting a speaker into my class to talk about how he markets his books. The dean of the program called me up and told me that I was not to step foot into my classroom the next day. At that moment, so much of whom I thought I wanted to be fell apart all around me. I'm still picking up the pieces through the 7 Spiritual Laws of Success, therapy and some major identity work but I know now who I am truly purposed to serve and- quite unapologetically- those people look more like me than 99% of those students and administrators did. Â WHAT UNIQUE IMPACT DO YOU BRING IN YOUR INDUSTRY?

As an 11-year entrepreneur, a Certified Business Analyst, a University educator and a researcher, I have been blessed to look at and experience the challenge that Black women entrepreneurs face literally from every angle. More than that, I know what the missing piece in business development resources for multi-cultural women is and I have successfully tested the solution with more than 500 clients and students over the last 4 years. That missing piece is Becoming FEARLESS. WHAT ONE TIP WOULD SHARE TO HELP A WOMEN BEGIN LIVING FEARLESSLY?

The one tip that I want anyone reading this to walk away with if they are feeling even the slightest bit of doubt is to find your treasure: "For where your treasure is, your heart will be also."Â

WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU IN 2018?

Next for me and other FEARLESS Black women in my inner circle is the launch of Become FEARLESS Today. It's a resource and referral network for multi-passionate women of color providing activation, inspiration and accountability to aspiring women business owners. We will be launching soon after Essence so make sure to connect with us if this is something you need! HOW CAN READERS CONNECT WITH YOU ONLINE?

I'll be around at Essence (hey girl, hey!!) but connect with me online at www.meetprofwhite.com/BFT or @meetprofwhite anywhere on social media! Use #becomefearlesstoday so I can find you too!

INTERVIEW WITH

INDRA AND AUTOMNE TELL US ABOUT PRINCESSINC.ORG:

We're Indra and Automne and we're the founders of Princess, Inc. Princess, Inc. initially started as a mentoring organization for at-risk teenage girls, ranging from ages 13-19. Since its conception in 2011, we've now become the go-to organization for innovative community service projects, connecting under-served children & families to resources and annually creating opportunities for deserving students to get scholarships, go to college tuition-free, obtain free dental work in exchange for community service hours, etc. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE A PLATFORM THAT SPECIFICALLY EMPOWERS YOUNG WOMEN?

The demographic proved that the young ladies in the South Jersey area (Atlantic City and Pleasantville specifically) were in dire need of resources & mentoring and support. We believe that a huge part of our vision is to cultivate young ladies towards excellence--focusing specifically on, self-esteem, self-development, self-efficacy & civic leadership, and paying it forward. WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF YOUR MOST EXCITING MOMENTS SO FAR WITH PRINCESS INC.?

We would have to say that one of the best moments so far has been introducing our newest cohort, the Glow Up, to the nostalgic game of Double Dutch. The girls competed competitively in the International Double Dutch League's “Tournament of Champions” which was held Atlantic City and won first place in the novice category for singles & doubles. They were a part of history the weekend of June 9th, 2018 because they jumped and are the very first competitive team ever in Atlantic City! The Jubilee Jumping Company, created & developed by us helped to change the girls, showed them how to use their bodies in other ways and also showed them that Double Dutch is truly a sport! WHAT WOULD YOU SHARE WITH OUR READERS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTORSHIP?

What the girls need are advocates and women to teach them to believe that they deserve THE BEST of everything! Every moment we spend with the girls is intentional. We're grooming them to be 'girl bosses' and leaders - so we engage them in year-round innovative community service projects, we expose them to the arts, we teach them to make healthy choices, etc. We also demand that they live at a standard of excellence - and it works! WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU IN 2018 AND HOW CAN READERS SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS?

We've started a Double Dutch company in Atlantic City called The Jubilee Jumping Company. We're expanding & starting a new chapter in Atlanta! Also, we can’t forget that we are penning our second book called “Dropping Jewels!” For anyone interested in supporting Princess, Inc. you can visit our website to make donations. Also spread the word about our organization by following us on social media and by subscribing to our YouTube channel “Indra and Automne Raising Princess.” On our channel, we have over 40 videos of us out with our girls and doing the work of Princess, Inc. that we love so much! My mother inspired my heart for service. In April 2008, my shero was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had a mastectomy the following month. INTERVIEW WITH

CHERYL WOOD

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO OUR READERS: I am a passionate, mission-driven international motivational speaker, best-selling author, and advocate for the economic empowerment of women globally through entrepreneurship. My company, Personal Power Enterprises, LLC, is committed to educating and equipping women with the tools to strategically use their gifts to leave their unique fingerprint on the world while simultaneously developing wealth creation. I have shared my message about boldly pursuing your possibilities with countless women across the United States and abroad as far away as South Africa, India, London and the Bahamas. My transformative work has been featured on ABC, Radio One, Forbes Magazine, Huffington Post, Essence, Black Enterprise, The Washington Informer, Good Morning Washington, Fox 5 News, and the Afro-American Newspaper, amongst many other media outlets. I have delivered keynotes for both small and large organizations, including the FBI, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Agriculture, The United Nations, Verizon Wireless, Small Business Administration, Federally Employed Women, Blacks In Government, National Association of Professional Women, Women’s Council of Realtors, Virginia Women In Public Finance and Women in eDiscovery, to name a few. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR? I got tired of just existing in life and not fully utilizing my unique gifts to create a legacy and create generational wealth for my family. So, in 2009 I made a decision to start my own business to interrupt my norm even in the face of all my fears. I started a mommy-inspired t-shirt business that eventually detoured me into my international speaking career which I ultimately discovered was the thing I was born to do. Now I have the privilege of traveling the world to speak into the lives of other mission-driven women. AS A SPEAKER WHAT KEY MESSAGES DO YOU TYPICALLY CONVEY TO THE AUDIENCE? In every message that I deliver, I remind audiences that Playtime Is Over and challenge them to seize every moment to walk into their unique lane of brilliance, to optimize their potential, to pursue their possibilities with tenacity, to boldly face their fears, and to take big, scary risks that yield big rewards. WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU IN 2018? One of my biggest goals for 2018 is to create platforms for other women globally to share their story and their message with the world. I have created a series called “A Woman’s Narrative” that will feature 15 women who will speak their truth on stages to impact the lives of others. The first stop is Maryland and the next stop is Paris. HOW CAN READERS CONNECT WITH YOU ONLINE? My social media handle is @CherylEmpowers on FB, IG, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

INTERVIEW

TERA CARISSA

Introduce yourself to our readers and share a bit about your work as a coach and international speaker: A life coach since 2009 with celebrity coaching clients, ministry coaching clients, corporate and life coaching clients in 20+ countries, coaching is an extension of my ultimate purpose to positively impact and empower 1 million people globally through multiple means. My coaching and speaking itinerary spans 6 continents, and for that I am grateful. The most recent countries added to my coaching list include: United Arab Emirates, China, and India. Additionally, I am grateful to have been included in over 100 media outlets globally, with standing media invitations in South Africa and Europe. What advice would you share with ladies that also desire to speak abroad? Know who you are and know your purpose. When you know who you are and can stand firm in that, doors will fly open for you. Always remember, your message...not someone else's message, but your message will open every door God has for you. When speaking at various conferences, what are some of the key messages you share with your audience? Finding the purpose in pain is a universal message everyone can relate to. Helping audiences tap into their purpose using my formula: your past, your pain, and your passion is my most often shared message. What is next for you in 2018? It has always been a goal of mine to establish a purpose empowerment media company. I am happy to say, this past spring LR (Life Redefined) Global Media Group was launched. So far we have placed purpose-driven entrepreneurs and professionals in national media, launched international marketing campaigns, first-time authors, and more. If any purpose driven reader is interested in taking their message, business, product, or service to the masses, they can connect with my team via www.lrglobalmediagroup.com.

I AM A NUDIST

CEO OWNER

KeAndrea

JACQUOT INTERVIEW

Introduce yourself and tell us about I AM A NUDIST LLC: Greetings beautiful people, my name is KeAndrea Jacquot and I am the CEO/OWNER of I AM A NUDIST! I AM A NUDIST is a company that started based on the insecurities of a young girl living in a brutally honest world. Nourish your skin and nurture your senses with the finest botanically enriched cleansers, moisturizers, hand poured soy candles as well as bath and body products. Pure plant based pampering from head to toe! I AM A NUDIST isn’t just a brand, it is a lifestyle. What inspired you to become a beautypreneur? It is about standing in your truth, being Bare to yourself first and then to the world. Being selfaware; not caring what the next person may think or say because you know deep down inside that YOU ARE ENOUGH!!! So I only have one question for you: Would you dare be BARE? I became a beautypreneur to be apart of the change I wanted to see in this world. What makes your products unique in the beauty industry? My beauty products are different from others by being original and creative with the formulas I come up with as well as having a lesson and message to give with each product. I would like to describe my company as being compared to the different stages in real life. When formulating each product I kept myself in mind as a consumer. Why? I did that because I’ve always been the type of person who wanted a bang for her buck. When using my products a little goes a long way. What is next for you in 2018? I never want to be the type of person who is constantly in my clients' pockets. I figured it would make my clients appreciate everything on another level. I never tell my left hand what my right hand is doing or say coming soon; meaning you will just have to ride this thing called life with me and enjoy the view because until something has actually manifested I never say what’s to come!!! How can readers connect with your brand online? I invite everyone to my Instagram page @iamanudist101 and Facebook page I AM A NUDIST. If you would like to place an order please visit my website www.iamanudist101.com. Leaving you with some imagination: KeAndrea Jacquot aka I AM A NUDIST!

INTERVIEW

AKIRA J. DIXON

Introduce yourself and tell us about your profession: I'm Akira J. Dixon. I'm a 31-year-old momprenuer of two extremely active children. I'm a licensed credit counselor and my job is simply to teach millennial women how to reach financial success by improving their credit. After struggling to find the right career, I literally had to dig deep inside of me to figure out what I enjoyed doing. I really enjoyed helping others transform their finances.

INTERVIEW What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? Prior to bringing my own credit score into the 800 point area, I suffered from poor financial guidance. I wasn't taught the importance of good credit nor the consequences of bad credit options. After rehabilitating my own score, I opened Akira's Total Credit Rehab five years ago and I've helped over 2000 individuals improve their credit lifestyle. To be honest, I didn't even know you could turn this into an actual business until I started to see it on Instagram. What unique impact do you bring to your industry? The credit repair world has a terrible connotation associated with it. I bring transparent & ethical solutions to those who need it. Let's be real when you hear the term "credit repair" you automatically think of a scam. My job is to not only to perform the service but educate the masses on how to take credit and build wealth. I also bring a layer of youthfulness to the arena. Most credit owners are older Caucasian gentlemen and when many see this brown face they are instantly captivated. I hope to continue to spread consumer credit awareness in hopes of encouraging others to not only look like wealth but to actually obtain it. What advice would you share with your younger self regarding selfconfidence and pursuing your passion? The Internet is definitely a place to make you second guess almost everything in life. Instead of building your life around what you see others doing, build it around the things that bring you the most joy. Knowing and understanding WHO you are will always be the most influential branding factor ever. Don't bend, don't break - no matter the season others are in.

INTERVIEW

What is next for you in 2018? This year is all about expansion & extension. I've spent most of this year helping other millennial women multiply their income by starting their own ethical credit repair firms. There are 71 million people with bad credit. I am also focused on sharing the true ups and downs of entrepreneurship through my podcast, Mogul Minded Conversations that can be viewed on Soundcloud and Itunes. How can readers connect with you online? Readers can always keep up with me online. I'm on Instagram, Facebook, & Twitter. My handle is the same everywhere - @akirajdixon www.AkirasTotalCreditRehab.com
