At this writing, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. had the look of likely contenders. 6 p.m. on DISN Movie: The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar This new animated made-forTV sequel to “The Lion King” focuses on Kion (voice of Max Charles, “The Strain”), the second-born cub of Simba and Nala (voices of Rob Lowe and Gabrielle Union), as he fulfills his destiny to lead an elite team. He breaks with tradition, recruiting not the fiercest lions in the Pride Lands, but his friends who embody less obvious heroic qualities. Donal Logue, Michael Chiklis, Morena Baccarin and Robin Lord Taylor also star. 8 p.m. on KOED Eddie Murphy: The Mark Twain Prize One of the top stars to emerge from “Saturday Night Live” is feted as the 18th recipient of the honor in a ceremony taped last month at Washington, D.C.’s, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Arsenio Hall, Kathy Griffin, George Lopez and fellow “SNL” alums Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan and Joe Piscopo are among those on hand to secure Murphy — and it will be interesting to see whether Murphy’s remarks about earlier Twain Prize recipient Bill Cosby make the cut. 8 p.m. on HBO Movie: 3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets Filmmaker Marc Silver uses the shooting death of black teenager Jordan Davis to examine Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” self-defense law in this trenchant new documentary. In late 2012, middle-aged white Floridian Michael Dunn accosted Davis over the volume of music coming from his car at a gas station. Dunn fired 10 times into the car full of unarmed teens, killing Davis. After fleeing the scene, Dunn later claimed he shot in selfdefense.

In this special, “Liars” fans get a behind-thescenes look at the changes in store for the characters, a backstage tour of the show’s new sets, and interviews with the cast and crew about how the much-anticipated time jump may affect the narrative on this show. 8 p.m. on KTUL Dancing With the Stars For the celebrities still in the competition, it all leads to this: the bestowing of the mirrorball trophy as Season 21 reaches its finale. Hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews will make the big announcement, with judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli getting to weigh in again before the winner is declared. A number of the show’s pro dancers will be hitting the road in a touring show before Season 22 starts in the spring.

After live productions of “The Sound of Music” and “Peter Pan” in past years, NBC revs up for its next such offering with this new special, showcasing the contemporary musical version of “The Wizard of Oz” — which spawned such songs as “Ease on Down the Road.” The hour presents a behindthe-scenes look as the actors and crew members prep for next week’s broadcast, with Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige

and “Wiz” veteran Stephanie Mills among those interviewed. m Sandler’s “Turkey Song.” 8 p.m. on KOKI Empire Notable guest stars abound in the new episode “Sinned Against,” which features Alicia Keys, Rosie O’Donnell and filmmaker Lee Daniels, this show’s co-creator. O’Donnell plays a former convict who helps Cookie and Candace (Taraji P. Henson, guest star Vivica A. Fox) with their sister, while Keys portrays — aptly — a music sensation who starts a collaboration with Jamal (Jussie Smollett). And Daniels appears as ... well, himself. 9 p.m. on KOTV Code Black A veteran of the stage version of “The Lion King,” guest star Alton Fitzgerald White plays ... well, a veteran of the stage version of “The Lion King” in the new episode “The Son Rises.” His actor character seeks throat treatment from the doctors, and their diagnosis is more dire than he anticipates. While supporting him in the emergency room, his fellow cast members also help a teenager facing a crisis involving his father.

THURSDAY 8 a.m. on KJRH Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade In many households across America, it simply isn’t the holiday unless this event is on the television screen. “Today’s” Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker assume their traditional duties as hosts as the 89th annual edition of the gala is broadcast from New York — capped by the appearance of Santa Claus. Before he arrives, the parade route will be filled with floats, marching bands, musical performances and the ever-popular character balloons. 11 a.m. on KJRH The National Dog Show An annual television tradition of the Thanksgiving holiday is maintained as the Philadelphia Kennel Club’s event — showcasing more than 2000 canines of 170-plus breeds — is broadcast again. John O’Hurley (“Seinfeld”) is back as host, with David Frei returning to offer commentary while Mary Carillo adds reports from the sidelines. The ultimate aim for the four-legged contestants and their owners, of course, is to be declared “Best in Show.” 7 p.m. on KOKI The All-Star Dog Rescue Celebration For the second consecutive year, two-time Oscar winner

9 p.m. on MAX The Knick In the new episode “Williams and Walker,” Thackery (Clive Owen) struggles to control his nerves as he readies himself to separate conjoined twins in front of a packed audience. After getting a surprise gift from her father-in-law, Cornelia (Juliet Rylance) attends a gala charity ball for the new Knick. Meanwhile, Algernon (Andre Holland) gets a long-overdue spotlight in the surgical theater. and animal advocate Hilary Swank produces a holidayevening event for a cause dear to her, supporting and encouraging adoptions of rescue dogs. Many other celebrities who also are canine-lovers participate in the two-hour special, which led to more than 4500 adoption applications after its original edition aired. The program will offer information on how viewers can adopt in their own localities. 7 p.m. on KTUL The Muppets Ed Helms (“The Office,” “The Hangover”) guest stars as himself, and inspires a Muppet karaoke session to end them all at the tavern run by Rowlf, in “Pig Out.” The problem comes the next day, when no one is at work — to the extreme chagrin of Kermit. The show must go on, though, and Fozzie has a mishap during it.

FRIDAY 7 p.m. on KTUL Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town A lanky mailman with the voice of Fred Astaire explains Santa’s origins in this animated 1970 special, which sidesteps the St. Nicholas part. In this version, the future jolly old elf is a foundling adopted by the Kringles, a family of toymakers. He grows up with toys in his blood, so to speak, and feels called to give them away to the local youngsters — but mean old Burgermeister Meisterburger will have none of that. 7 p.m. on A&E Unforgettable The procedural drama, previously a CBS series, opens its fourth season in this new cable venue with “Blast From the Past,” in which Carrie (Poppy Montgomery) is stunned when Eddie Martin (guest star Skeet Ulrich) unexpectedly pays a visit to Major Crimes while investigating a meth crew. Everyone is in for a surprise, however, as they discover the crew isn’t dealing drugs but rather military-grade chemicals to make a missile that leaves no radar trail. Another new episode immediately follows.

SATURDAY 7 p.m. on FOOD HGTV All-Star Gingerbread Build Egypt Sherrod is host of this new holiday special, which finds Ron Ben-Israel and Jonathan Scott going headto-head against Duff Goldman and Drew Scott in a battle to see which team can create the most festive life-sized, edible gingerbread houses in just 72 hours. 7 p.m. on HALL Movie: A Christmas Detour After a snowstorm grounds her New York-bound flight in Buffalo, Paige (Candace Cameron Bure) finds her usual optimism dimmed by the airport hotel where she is stranded. She desperately needs to find a way to the Big Apple, where she is scheduled to meet her fiance’s parents, and for some reason, the only person who may be able to help her is a fellow passenger she can’t stand: Dylan (Paul Greene), whose own recent heartbreak has soured him on romance. Sarah Strange, David Lewis and Marcus Rosner also star. 8 p.m. on SHOW The Spymasters — CIA in the Crosshairs The 12 living directors of the CIA discuss their failures and previously classified successes in this new documentary that probes inside the workings of the world’s most powerful and clandestine spy agency. “Homeland” star Mandy Patinkin narrates the film, which also includes interviews with some of the agency’s top operatives.
