NEWS WINTER EDITION

‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE SHARING tralalalala! In this Issue Inside our Winter edition, we’ve been looking at just how far Liftshare has come and how clients made the most of Liftshare Week to help the community grow even more. And discover the difference a responsive website can make. Enjoy!

Out with the old year and in with the new! A

s 2014 draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to look back at all we’ve achieved here at Liftshare this year, and to look forward to exciting future plans. With another 12 months passing by we would like to take a moment to express our thanks to you for all the hard work you do to promote sustainable travel in your organisations and communities. Without your unwavering enthusiasm and determination to drive change, our efforts would not have half the impact that they do – so thank you. Where this enthusiasm was most clearly expressed was during this year’s Liftshare Week. Our prize draw to win £250 by sending a request to share was entered in droves – members from over 375 schemes across the country participated.

This issue, a special thank you goes out to Lesley Smith from Carshare Devon. Lesley has been coordinating the scheme for the last 12 years, since its inception in 2003. She’s been pivotal in taking the member numbers from zero to over 10,000. We really wouldn’t have been able to see the same level of success without Lesley at the helm, so well done!

“a special thank you goes to Lesley Smith from Carshare Devon... ” The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without some star-gazing and New Year’s resolutions. Looking ahead, Liftshare members are on track to rack up £33 million in journey savings over the next 12 months, helping to provide an impressive reduction in CO2 emissions of 416,000 tonnes.

We hope 2015 will continue to see attitudes changing, and more and more people turning to car-sharing solutions for their journey needs. We can’t wait to work with you to make it happen. Until then, if there’s anything we can help with, please do get in touch on: 01603 389 323. May your holidays be filled with smiles and sharing!

Taking a look at just how far Liftshare has come... Over more than 10 years the networks of journeys added to Liftshare has increased dramatically these two images show how much our coverage has increased in East Anglia from August 2002, when there are just a handful of journeys and

routes added , through to August of 2014. This really represents how robust our network has become so any potential scheme members can have confidence that they have a high chance of finding someone to share with.

“Liftshare have helped us significantly with our car parking problems. The team were a pleasure to work with and the launch event was a huge success. We are still getting new people joining and those that are already part of the scheme are providing positive feedback. We plan to increase the number of dedicated carshare spaces to support the demand - overall it’s a great success story” EDF’s Sizewell Plant

Considered a responsive website?

Introducing Tasha and Ian With Natasha and Ian joining the team we have taken this as an opportunity to reorganise the way we do things in the Client Account Manager team. Every client now has a dedicated account manager. The reallocation has been done so that each member of our team now looks after a specific region. We should now become experts in your area. With the aims of sharing best practice and knowledge delivering a more joined up approach between local authorities and local business for all things Liftshare.

A

responsive website is constructed so that all of the content, images, layout and navigation of the site are able to rearrange for optimum viewing depending on the screen size and your viewing device. Because mobile internet usage is increasing it is becoming more important that websites are designed to be mobile friendly.

“images, layout and navigation of the site are able to rearrange for optimum viewing”

Monitoring updates Over the last year we have made several refinements to the monitoring features available for a car-sharing scheme with us. Here is a quick round up:

DATABASE CLEANING We’ve introduced a new system to ensure your member data is always up-to-date. We’ll now email you fortnightly with a list of members whose emails have bounced, who may need to be removed. A link in the email will take you to the list on your Monitoring Pages, where you can choose which members to remove and which to keep (such as those whose email addresses simply need updating).

Members who have not been marked “keep” will automatically be removed after a month. This is to help make sure that members can be contacted by keeping their email addresses up-to-date. JOURNEY SAVINGS REPORTING Regular and One-off journey BUDi team savings are now split out on the reporting pages available. When reviewing the reporting pages “Savings by BUDi team members” will be displayed as either being related to regular journeys or one-off journeys. You can easily switch between the two for current (ie the next 12 months) or for a date range.

Since 23rd June 2014 we have been recording the savings made by BUDi teams in both regular and oneoff journeys. These historical savings are now available to view on the monitoring pages reporting page. They can be split out by regular or one-off journeys

A responsive design has several potential benefits over a standard design. • Increasing your scheme’s reach to tablet and mobile audiences • Better accessibility – the site can be scaled to any size! This is perfect for users with accessibility issues. • Future proof – by having a website that looks good on multiple devices • Can increase conversion rates – its less likely a mobile user will convert on a standard website as the user experience is not tailored to the device. As use of tablets and mobile browsers grows this becomes more important

Our gold event packages have got off to a flying start and are generating the results clients need, recent examples include:

Top events 1. EDF - 244 registrations - 24% of staff signed up 2. McLaren - 89 registrations – 22% of the target audience 3. Johnson Mathey - 332 registrations 4. Mars - 200 Personal Travel Plans were delivered For more information contact Hannah our events co-ordinator: hannah@liftshare.com

A few highlights from Liftshare week! As mentioned earlier, Liftshare week was a great touch point this year for the enthusiasm that everyone helps put into the success of their schemes.

And the award goes to... The environment is at the heart of everything we do, so it was a great honour for this to be recognised as Liftshare were this year’s lucky winner of the EDP Business Award for the Environment and Sustainability.

We are passionate about getting the message of travelling more sustainably out to all the current and potential liftsharers. It is a vital part of everything we do.

We want to highlight a couple of great promotions that were used this year...

Lincolnshire/LN6 borrowed a Hybrid car from their local Toyota dealership and filled it with branded teddy bears with a view to people guessing how many bears were sharing the car. The person who guessed the correct amount of bears in the car got to win the car to use for a weekend of their choice. It was a great success encouraging over 100 sign ups from taking the car to business events alone. They also offered a free gift when people signed up to the website and if they then requested to share a journey they received a bear and an in-car phone charger.

Bicester Village hired a green car and registered staff as they arrived for work in the car park, making use of eye-catching green panamas and personalising the staff buggy to add real vibrancy to the campaign.

A happy, vibrant lady signing people up for the website.
