We live in an efficiency and productivity-obsessed age. And I admit - I fall into the trap sometimes too. The lure of believing the only things worth doing are those for which I can make an exact calculation of the time, effort, and investment it will cost me. The things that result in the highest level of control and least amount of uncertainty. We must leave some room for exploring, and trying new places and things, for being a beginner. It is those times that are unstructured and open-ended where the space exists for connections to be made, friendships to be fostered and trust to be built. What I've realized "adventures" and “exploration” doesn't have to be something big and crazy. It can be playing a board game on the patio, walking a new trail, or going out to explore a new restaurant, a new coffee shop a great place for dessert, or a neat place to view the local landscape and the beautiful mountains. Our hope is that this issue encourages you to make room for exploration. To prioritize time away from the regular schedule of life. To lose yourself on a trail or in a book. To book that trip you’ve been thinking about, to make time for the things that matter most to you, but often come last on the calendar. If April showers bring May flowers, make time to play in the rain! Here is to a happy spring full of adventure, peace, and sunshine. ONE OF A FEW AIR MUSEUMS THAT HAVE WORLD WAR 11 AIRCRAFT THAT STILL FLY TODAY.
Three of the rarest and most popular aircraft from the “Planes of Fame Air Museum.” are featured. These are (bottom to top) - Mitsubishi A6M5 "Zero," Vought F4U-1A "Corsair", and the Lockheed P-38J "Lightning". The Zero is the only surviving and flying authentic Japanese Zero from World War II. This aircraft is a "combat veteran" from the Second World War and was captured by the allies on the island of Saipan in 1944. There are only five Japanese Zeros from WWII that still fly, and this one is the only one still flying with its original engine. The "Corsair" is also a World War II "combat veteran" having flown countless missions with the United States Marine Corps in the South and Central Pacific during the war. There are an estimated 25 "Corsairs" left that fly (out of over 13,000 built). This aircraft is the oldest of those flying "Corsairs" that still flies. It recently appeared in the motion picture "Devotion." The "Lightning" is one of only ten P-38 aircraft that still fly (out of the more than 10,000 built). It is probably the most popular of all our flying aircraft. It will be featured in the April 1, 2023 "Flying Demo" at the Museum. planesoffame.org
