Summer Fun

July 2022 PUBLISHER

Brian Patchett | brian.patchett@citylifestyle.com AD DESIGNER

Hunter Richie

Summer is the perfect time to come up with a bucket list of activities to enjoy and ways to unwind and relax. Some of the best summers can be spent with constant activities and trips, others reflect a slower pace and simple moments of enjoying those around us. Although the “lazy days of summer” isn’t always something we can attain with our packed schedules, it is so refreshing to take some time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures. Some of the best times spent can be a backyard barbecue with friends, making s’mores by a fire pit, riding a bike on a beautiful trail, spending time trying different workout routines in the outdoors benefitting your body and mind, a day on the water, eating ice-cream on a hot summer day, or simply taking in the night sky. Please check out “Summer Adventure” page 24. We highlighted local areas to celebrate the “Taste of Yorba Linda” in July, check out the details. We also wanted to share some of the happenings around our cities this summer and ways to get out and explore with the family or have a great date night. On the “Events”pages 32 and 33. We highlighted local areas to celebrate the 4th of July. The “Taste of Yorba Linda” is in July, check out the details. We have great feature stories this month, No Limit Personal Training, Pedego Bikes, and OCRV. All provide exciting opportunities this summer season and beyond. In addition, we want to thank veterans in our community for their service in honor of the Fourth of July. We have immense respect for the men and women who make the selfless decision to serve and protect our nation. There is no greater sacrifice than to risk your life in order to protect others. The team at Lifestyle wants to thank all veterans, those still serving and all of their loved ones for your service. I hope you are able to enjoy some of the many things our cities offer during these hot days of summer, and you make memories with those around you that you love. Thank you for reading Lifestyle and I hope to see you around town.

Pedego’ s are just FUN! ARTICLE BY HEATHER WHITSITT

Take a spin around the city, the mountains, or on the Santa Ana Riverbed Trail in tech-savvy style.

M UST SE E | SPORTS + R ECRE ATI ON

Summertime is well underway—so get up, get out, and start exploring the great outdoors! What better way to be active than hopping on an electric bike? Thanks to Pedego Bikes, Yorba Linda residents can now take a spin around the city in tech-savvy style. For owners, Chris and Cheryl (Slinkard) Bertuzzi, as well as co-owner/store manager Jodi Valencia, opening the company’s 211th brick and mortar location in the picturesque town of Yorba Linda made perfect sense. Pedego Bikes has a prime position right next to the Santa Ana Riverbed Trail, known by locals as a cyclist’s dream. Customers can hop on their own Pedego or rent one from the store, riding all the way to the Anaheim Train Station and back powered by a single charge. Rentals are available by the hour, half-day, or in full-day increments. As a brand, Pedego has taken the electric bike industry by storm, with 16 unique models ranging from cruisers to fat tire trail bikes— whatever you’re looking for, they have just the right ride for you. Whether for a fun activity, a serious sport, to reach personal health goals or for electric transportation, Pedego has an option for any activity that most everyone can enjoy- no matter the ability.

As a former Pedego manager in Portland, Jodi was impressed by the company’s commitment to supporting independent owners in providing customers with great products and customer service. Upon noticing a surprising lack of e-bike businesses in Yorba Linda, Jodi decided to fill that void in the community by bringing the technology closer to home. With his years of experience working in the bicycle industry and firsthand knowledge of the brand, Jodi, along with Chris and Cheryl, knew that joining forces with Pedego Inc., headquartered in Orange County, would be a wise choice. As for the product line, the proof is in the pudding, as far as this forward-thinking trio is concerned. “The bikes themselves show just how much care and quality go into them—just like all of Pedego’s products.” Chris and Jodi, who grew up in Yorba Linda, and Cheryl, who has spent the past 20 years in the community, are thrilled to bring e-bike technology to the town they’re all proud to call home. Together, they hope to see citizens of all ages and ability levels take part in the increasingly popular pastime. “We strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy being able

“We strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy being able to ride a bike, and that’s exactly what Pedego helps us deliver. As we grow and become established, so will our relationship with the community, and hopefully, spur us as the central e-biking hub for the city.” Jodi, Chris, and Cheryl hope to provide the Yorba Linda community with plenty of opportunities to connect, stay active, and have fun while getting familiar with their products. “Creating a local place for people to ride a high-quality e-bike is super important to us, whether they have the ability to ride a regular bike or not. just FUN! We also want to participate in as many community events as we can. We have joined the Chamber of Commerce and are proud to sponsor the Sunrise Rotary’s 35th Annual Lobsterfest and July’s Annual Taste of Yorba Linda put on by the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce.” The most important message your local Pedego family hopes to share with the Yorba Linda community? Don’t be a stranger! “Come check us out! We are directly across from the Santa Ana River Trail, one of the best places to ride a bike. With bikes for rent and sale, there are plenty of different ways we can have you saying, ‘Hello, Fun!’ too!” https://pedegoelectricbikes.com/dealers/yorba-linda/

Results-Driven Training TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH FITNESS, NUTRITION AND COACHING.

ARTICLE BY HEATHER WHITSITT

H OW TO | FITNESS

If you could change anything about your physical fitness, what would it be? Whether you have certain areas you’d like to strengthen, or your workout regime needs a total overhaul, No Limit Personal Training is committed to helping you improve from the inside out. For many people, the guidance and motivation of trained professionals is a crucial part of the fitness equation—and that’s exactly what the coaching team at NLPT consistently delivers. Helping clients reach and exceed their goals is what sets NLPT apart from the competition, as well as a strong sense of community and a supportive culture. Since 2009, a commitment to results-driven training is what has fueled many client success stories. “We pride ourselves on service. Our team's mission is to always leave every single person we come across better than they were before,” says NLPT Owner and President Sako Yakinian. “We do our best to work fast and efficiently for our clients, and our results speak for themselves. To continue to transform lives through fitness, nutrition, and coaching”.

Physical fitness is mostly a mental game. Achieving true change means adopting a positive mindset to overcome the voice inside your head telling you that you can’t. NLPT’s team helps each client knock out every obstacle by shaking up everything they thought they knew about exercise. Coaches like Daniel, Briana, Brandon, and Andrew are known for making training fun, as well as keeping things exciting and appropriately challenging for all fitness levels. Mariah is also a key member of the NLPT team. It’s safe to say that the team at NLPT is more like family, and they get as much motivation from their clients as they give. “Watching clients come in struggling and looking for help, then seeing them working weekly towards a goal and an outcome they can’t see—witnessing that transformation physically, mentally, and emotionally along the way inspires us as much as it inspires them,” says Sako. Sako is no stranger to helping others along their fitness journey, which eventually led to the inception of NLPT.After working

with a high schooler to help him lose over 115 pounds in less than 18 months, Sako saw his impact firsthand. He set out on a mission to change people’s lives for the better for the rest of his life—and he never looked back. With 13 years in business now under his belt, Sako and his talented trainers stay focused on the future, with continued plans for strengthening their community ties. “In 2022 and beyond, our mission is to connect with as many small businesses in the city as we can, supporting each other and keeping small businesses strong,” Sako says. The fitness facility also hosts a youth summer camp for 1st-6th graders every Monday. Kids can come in, work out, stay active, and have fun in a safe, nurturing environment. The NLPT team sticks to a tried-andtrue philosophy when it comes to keeping clients’ eyes on the prize. “We teach clients that with discipline, consistency, hard work, and belief in oneself, anything is possible,” says Sako. “If you have a big enough ‘WHY,’ you’ll always figure out the ‘HOW!’” As a special offer, No Limit Personal Training would like to invite you to check out their group training programs with 50% off your first month. Sweaty and challenging workouts done in 30 minutes or less at home

H EA LT H Y LIF E ST Y LE | HE ALTH + W E LLNE S S

Bags are packed, reservations are made, and the Out of Office automatic reply is letting everyone know you have officially entered vacation mode. There’s one thing that’s lingering: how to go on vacation without pressing pause on the fitness progress you’ve made, or avoid commuting to a gym and paying drop-in fees. Mayhem Athlete provides online programming that guarantees challenging workouts which can be done in 30 minutes or less. These quick but effective workouts incorporate compound movements such as burpees, push ups and lunges. Compound movements use more than one muscle group, requiring more energy from your muscles to recover. This means you can continue to burn calories while enjoying the beach or sitting at work, long after the workout is over. The Mayhem Athlete M30 program offers two options for all fitness levels. Mayhem Bodyweight, a 30-minute format that requires no equipment, and Mayhem Minimal, a 30-minute format which only requires a couple dumbbells. Mayhem Athletes’ easy to use app, SugarWOD, provides you with a warm up, workout, accessory cool-down, and coaching video - ensuring you get the most out of your 30 minutes! You can also find video demonstrations for each movement within the app and a community of like-minded individuals who are doing the same workouts around the globe.

The "Woody"

Adventure begins with OCRV “If you can dream it...we can build it!”

ARTICLE BY HEATHER WHITSITT | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ART CORDERO, CORE MEDIA PHOTOGRAPHY

There’s something about that sense of freedom that comes with hitting the open road. Whether you have a set destination in mind or prefer to land wherever your travels may take you, summer is the perfect season for adventure-seeking. More and more people are creating customized vacation itineraries with the flexibility afforded by RVs, which have become as popular amongst younger generations as they are with families and older travelers. Exploring new places while maintaining control over your environment offers a universal appeal for vacationers. RV ownership has boomed over recent years, with a record high of 11.2 million households owning an RV in 2021, up 62% since 2001.

O UR TOWN | AU TO + M A RI NE

For residents of the Orange County area, OCRV, owned by Art and Bonnie, is known as the premier, one-stop-shop for any services you need to get your RV road trip ready. Art Ashley has been a highly successful body shop owner for over 37 years. Since his teenage days spent working on streetcars, Art has sharpened his skill set into what it is today. After building two body shop facilities from the ground up and turning them both into thriving businesses, Art decided to tap into the niche market for repair and paint for RVs, large trucks, and emergency vehicles. In 2010, he sold the car portion of his business to open OCRV—and the rest was history.
