February - For Love And Art! Art comes in many different forms, and it gives us a glimpse of someone's heart - a part of them we don't see on the surface. We are all drawn to various expressions of art in different ways, and we tend to appreciate artistic expression that makes us feel something that resonates with us. I have always admired the vast creativity that artisans of all kinds pour into their work. As you read our February issue, we hope you are inspired to pursue what you love. After all, February is the month of love. With the hectic schedules we often keep, it is easy to let our hobbies, talents, special interests, and time with our significant other fall by the wayside. We just have to be deliberate about allowing ourselves time for the interests and people we love! Whether you want to creatively celebrate a birthday, engagement proposal, anniversary, baby shower, holiday or any special occasion, a picnic is a wonderfully inspiring idea. Today, there are professional picnic planners to help you plan an extra special date with your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, family and partners. You can select the time, location, foods, treats, decorations, and everything you want for your special date, while having someone else do all of the preparatory work for you. Lisa Hayes and Nick Gettys of Winter Garden have been happily dating for a few years. They are both busy career professionals. They wanted to do something fun, quiet, private, and very unique for their dating anniversary. They found Chelsey Bichay of Picnic Perfect with a bit of Internet research. Bichay offered a complimentary consultation with all kinds of options and opportunities. Bichay shared a number of very private getaway locations. Together, they settled on a beautifully romantic property surrounded by an orange grove and a lakefront view under a massive oak tree for a sunset picnic. Hayes shares, “We love picnics! We really wanted to select a very private and local romantic setting. We really just wanted to share some quality time alone while getting away from the busy traffic and crowded noisy restaurants for our getaway. We also wanted to help support our local community.” Once they arrived, the picnic planner welcomed them with a presentation of everything under their picnic tent. Not surprisingly, before the picnic event planner was to leave them alone, they asked her to take some extra romantic photos on her cell phone so that they could remember and cherish the occasion. Chelsey Bichay noted, “I have always loved all things celebratory. I love event planning with all of the possible extras. Planning all of the pretty and personal details is my absolute favorite thing to do! I, fortunately, realized I could create beautiful luxury picnics as a creative outlet for both my love of design and event planning. I have recently launched Picnic Perfect, and I have already shared over 30 special picnic events for my clients.” She adds, “Throughout the year, our Florida weather is absolutely glorious. The sun is shining, and being outdoors is an enjoyable activity. There are so many parks and hidden gardens here in the Winter Garden, Windermere, Horizon West, and Orlando area to choose from. Packing up a picnic basket with someone special to have your lunch al fresco most always sounds like the perfect date idea. There are plenty of perfect picnic spots to help you start planning your outdoor interlude.” Bichay appreciates the close-knit, small-town feel of Winter Garden and Central Florida. She has always had a deep passion for organizing events, party planning, and interior design. She is a full-time nanny who was inspired to explore and develop her own creative outlets. INGREDIENTS:

• 5oz Vanilla Infused Rum (Cruzan Vanilla Rum) • 4 chunks Fresh Pineapple • 5oz Fresh Pineapple Juice

• 1 Vanilla Bean • Cinnamon and Sugar for glass rim

METHOD: 1. Scrape vanilla from the bean into a shaker, add fresh pineapple chunks and muddle. 2. Add vanilla-infused rum, pineapple juice, and crushed ice to shaker and shake. 3. Garnish two martini glasses with a cinnamon-sugar rim. 4. Strain shaker equally into glasses

METHOD:

1. Garnish two champagne flutes with a sugar rim. 2. Add ½ measure each; blue curacao, lemonade, and vodka to champagne flutes. 3. Top with champagne or prosecco.

Technique Tuesdays have successfully been launched recently. They start at 2 PM every week as part of their open art studio workshops. Each Technique Tuesday workshop is designed to be different, with an instructor to help inspire you with a variety of visual art mediums and techniques. Once you step into the large open SOBO Art Studio, you will capture the motivating vibe while making new friends and sharing creative ideas. In addition, some complimentary art supplies are shared. Even though each artist individually creates their own inspirations and artwork, the dynamic of working together is extremely motivating. Executive Director Phil Self notes, “The Technique Tuesday experience parallels musical sessions. You need a community of inspired artists and art to succeed. I am an advocate for all of our art and artists. I want each of our WGAA artists to know and respect each other. This new Technique Tuesday workshop model will actively build a real sense of an exciting art community here in Winter Garden.” SOBO Art Gallery is excited to offer a Master Class from noted artist Oliver Sinon from March 6-10, 2022. In addition, they have reinstated children’s art classes.

VISION & MISSION: The WGAA vision is to be an integral part of the community’s cultural and educational framework while having a positive impact on Winter Garden. Their mission is to encourage individual creativity and artistic expression while promoting community involvement and cooperation, as well as to advance the appreciation, education, and availability of Visual and Cultural Arts. The Winter Garden Art Association is a 501-C3 non-profit association. Their objective is to continually expand public access to all forms of fine art by maintaining a beautiful gallery facility with programs that will nurture the individual and foster growth in the arts. The SOBO Art Gallery facility provides space to educate, explore, experience, and celebrate the many aspects of visual art and culture. Phil Self, Executive Director, notes, “I try to instill visions that will inspire our artists. I believe that inspiration for a Fine Artist comes from within. So we work hard to create a sense of vitality here at the SOBO Art Gallery for our artists and our community.”

The Women’s Living Legacy art show goes on display with an opening reception on February 3 from 5:30 to 8 PM. In addition, WGAA hosts numerous special art show exhibitions during the year, as well as opportunities for featured artists to showcase their artwork. The entire community is openly invited to register online for their free newsletter, so you will be able to learn about all art shows, workshops, opening reception celebrations and special events. Each new art show presents about 50 to 60 pieces of original artwork for preliminary judging and acceptance. WGAA supports their artists and the entire community by showcasing their artwork in numerous locations throughout the city. In addition, they have started a series of decorative downtown art murals with their Orange Tree Swing and The Hummingbird. So get ready for their Arts In April gala event planned for Saturday night, April 30, 2022.

AN ELEVATED DINING EXPERIENCE RIGHT IN HISTORIC WINTER GARDEN

Winter Garden is already home to some of Central Florida’s best restaurants, which is precisely why “Market to Table” fits in so well on Plant Street. Located right down a small alleyway off Plant Street, past the Axum coffee, is a cozy-looking entrance where you’ll find “Market to Table.” While they have been around for about five years, their cuisine carries a rich and classical flavor profile that reflects the years of culinary talent that goes into it. Chef Ryan Freelove is the chef behind it all, and he has put this culinary dream into place. He grew up locally in Winter Park and then graduated from the Pennsylvania Institute for Culinary Arts. Chef Freelove even traveled abroad to discover the best of Europe’s food and wine scene for a couple of years before coming back to Central Florida. In addition, he

learned from some of the best chefs at prominent local restaurants such as Victoria and Albert’s, The Ritz Carlton Orlando and the Peabody Orlando. This extensive background certainly explains why his food really stands out and carries that elevated flavor with every bite. Their lunch menu has this delightfully refreshing “Lunch Box” that gives you a little taste of everything. The perfectly house seared salmon or the grilled beef brochettes will be a new sensation for your tastebuds as it captures a simple yet savory taste throughout. The sides are crafted to perfection regardless of what you choose; the tabouli or red bliss potato salad would be strong recommendations, though. For some starters, you can try their charcuterie board laid out with some of the best meats and even some grilled focaccia; and the fried calamari has the perfect crunch and is seasoned quite well. If you have time for a cocktail, they are going to be the perfect stop for you. The Queen’s Honey Bee with the butterfly pea flower-infused gin, elderflower, dolin blanc and orange bitters has a wonderful and refreshing taste to it. If you want something a little sweeter, the Bobby Pickford may be the best choice with its pineapple-infused vodka, lime juice, pineapple juice, house-made vanilla and pomegranate grenadine. Either one of these are excellent choices, and they are accompanied by many more on the menu. Starting in 2022, their dinner menu is going to be their primary focus, so be sure to check out their dinner options like the New Bedford Scallops, Filet Mignon or Atlantic Triple Tail
