Bryan was cooking on a budget and found the beauty in carefully crafted dishes when he had the opportunity to eat out at restaurants. This led him to begin taking photos of his food not only to enjoy while he was out, but also to savor and remember the plating and style of the dish. His personal social media pages began to grow with followers interested in the food pho-

he decided to create a dedicated social media platform to showcase his love of food as an art form, @OrlandoFoodSpots was born. Over time, @OrlandoFoodSpots has continued to blossom, and with new growth has come new opportunities. Bryan’s skill set in both photography and videography, as well as food styling, has opened doors to paid work for restaurants, bars, and brands. “When brands started reaching out to me, I started to think this might be bigger than what I

expected,” said Bryan. “I want to spotlight the art and creativity behind food and not focus on indulgence. Culinary is an art, and I want to highlight the chefs behind it.” When it comes to styling food and beverage for a photo or video shoot, Bryan focuses on the most visually interesting part of the subject. “As a creative, I like to focus on the colors that the subject gives off,” said Bryan. About forty percent of the work is done behind the camera, with sixty percent in post-production. When asked about his greatest accomplishment from @OrlandoFoodSpots, Bryan said there was not one single moment that he could recollect. However, when he is out in the field at a luxury restaurant or hotel for a collaboration, he will often have a “ratatouille flashback” to the college days of eating ramen. You

Indeed Alex did just that, and while perfecting his jewelry making and repairing skills, he also received his pilot license, but it became a secondary hobby as opposed to his newfound career path. He would soon find himself owning a small shop in College Park where he would do minor jobs of repair and manufacturing for other larger jewelry stores. That is when Winter Garden legend Jerry Chicone Jr. found Alex and lobbied him to come down to Winter Garden to open a proper YOU MAY BE AMONG THE WINTER GARDENERS THAT HAVE

Here he began to fall in love with the trade that would become a lifelong career. Being a jeweler was not totally foreign to him; he had two uncles living in Cuba who were jewelers. It seemed it was in the blood, and his calling was revealed in between flight school lessons.

His uncles would move to the states in the course of time, including one uncle opening a store in Orlando. It was through his uncle’s own practices that Alex learned a very valuable lesson regarding the industry which he had entered, as Alex recalled it to me in our recent talk, “It was almost like a factory because one particular person would just do chain solders, another person just ring sizing, and another just stone setting. figured it out early that those people were with him for years and years, not only because he was a good person, but because they didn’t know anything else except just to polish, to solder a chain, or to set a stone. So, I wanted to learn it all.”

401(k), 403(b), and 457 Rollovers What’s the best way to handle old 401(k), 403(b), and 457 accounts? When you change jobs or retire, there are three things you should generally do with the assets in any employer-sponsored retirement plan: 1. Roll the money over into an IRA: A.) You will have more investment options. B.) IRAs generally have lower fees. C.) When you rollover into an IRA, YOU have control over your investment choices. 2. Transfer the money to another employer plan (if the new plan allows) 3. Never take the cash It will trigger a taxable event where half of your account could be lost.

The love for his community goes beyond his workday. Boyd and his wife serve on several ministry boards. From serving as the NCF Orlando chair as well as sitting on the board for Lift Orlando to serving as chair at The First Academy for a dozen years, Boyd uses his “time, talents, and treasure” to look for ways to be a blessing in the community. “What we do here provides me with an opportunity to be used and be part of things more important than just our work,” he said. “I’ve learned that if we all pitch in and contribute it makes things a bit easier for a number of families in our community.” Looking forward, Boyd mentioned a few upcoming additions — and even gave the scoop on an incredibly exciting potential partnership. “We’ve got a certain Florida-based company that combines a food and beverage component with a 36-hole mini-golf experience,” Boyd explained. “And there may or may not be a certain golfing titan involved with the project.” [The experience, after confirming with the Boyd team, is PopStroke. And the golf legend in question? Tiger Woods. His team designs the gorgeous (and challenging) PopStroke courses.] During this interview, Boyd hinted at partnership after partnership, some of which were in the works and others that will be announced soon. The maps in the Boyd Development office are dotted with pins and logos and notes for current and prospective tenants — each dream feeling more extensive than the next. “I’m excited about the momentum we have,” Boyd said. “The best days are yet to come.”
