LIFESTYLE LETTER

Home is More Than Where We Lay Our Heads! For some people, home is simply the place they sleep at night, a roof, four walls, a stop between busy days. But I’ve always believed home is so much more than that. Home is where routines turn into rituals, where familiar faces become family, and where comfort lives in both big moments and small, everyday ones. As we step into March and begin to feel the shift toward spring, this issue is all about celebrating home in all its forms, inside and out. It’s about the places that ground us, the spaces we care for, and the people who make them feel alive. In this month’s Lifestyle section, we’re shining a light on the regulars of the American Legion - proof that home can also be a place of belonging, connection, and shared stories. We’re also welcoming the season of outdoor living with Peterson Canvas & Awning, helping us enjoy our patios, porches, and backyards just a little longer as the days grow brighter. Inside the home, Bumble Bee Blinds reminds us how thoughtful design and family-driven businesses can turn everyday spaces into true sanctuaries. Spring is also a time for renewal, and that includes the things we often overlook. From giving our vehicles a fresh start with Show Shine Detailing to protecting the places we cherish through homeowners insurance guidance from South Platte Agency, and learning which supplements can support wellness at home by Althoff Wellness, this issue is filled with simple ways to care for what matters most. After a long winter, there’s something special about opening the windows, letting in fresh air, and feeling inspired to refresh our spaces, and ourselves. Whether your home is filled with laughter, quiet moments, or somewhere in between, it deserves attention, intention, and care. On a final note, I recently returned from our annual conference with a refreshed outlook and a full heart. Our keynote speaker was Tim Tebow, and I had the pleasure of meeting him; he is truly one of the kindest, most genuine people. It was a wonderful reminder that home starts within us, and when we feel grounded and inspired, it shows in everything we do. This March, we hope this issue encourages you to see home not just as where you sleep - but where life truly happens. MISTY DOCKINS, PUBLISHER @WINDSORCITYLIFESTYLE

Monthly Book Review by Words of Windsor YOUR LOCAL BOOKSTORE LOCATED AT 631 BIRCH STREET, UNIT B, WINDSOR

Beekeeping is showing a surge in popularity. Manyfolks have no idea where to begin and what it means to keep their own bees. Kim Flottum’s The Backyard Beekeeper is a perfect book for beginners. It includes such topics as what you need, what the bees need, and the types and breeds of bees. The hive discussion looks at wood versus plastic hives, and even what color to get if you are using plastic hives something never realized to be so important. Care of your bees is discussed in depth with such topics as maladies, pests, and getting ready for fall and winter. And while the honey is something to look forward to, there’s also beeswax, and this book has a good discussion of how to work with that. The book does a good job of breaking so much information down into easily read sections and useful pictures to keep from getting overwhelmed and to help understand everything. There’s a wonderful glossary to help keep track of the many new terms you will find. This book is a great resource that you will come back to many times as you get set up for your own beekeeping adventure! Discover this book and many more at Words of Windsor Books and Gifts. They are your local, independent bookstore and they're open Monday through Saturday 10am-6pm. The Backyard Beekeeper is a wonderful addition to your spring reading list.

BUILDING

How American Legion Post 109 Became Windsor’s Home for Veterans and Community On a quiet street in Windsor, Colorado, stands a building whose story runs far deeper than its walls suggest. Before becoming home to American Legion Post 109, it served as an officers’ quarters at the Prisoners of War Camp in nearby Greeley during World War II. In 1947, the building was moved to Windsor, beginning a new chapter of service: this time to veterans, families, and the community. In its early Windsor days, the Legion hall was lively. A roller skating rink occupied the downstairs, where kids could rent skates for just 25 cents. While the skates are gone, the spirit of welcome remains. Today, Post 109 is a living reminder that service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off; it simply takes a different form.

WALKING THROUGH THE DOOR

For many members, joining Post 109 began with a simple invitation. Eric Salisbury, a U.S. Army veteran who enlisted the day before 9/11 and received a Purple Heart in 2003, was introduced to the Legion by a friend. “There were a lot of older vets, but as a young veteran, I felt very welcome,” he recalls. Now serving as bartender and service officer, Eric has found not only friendship but purpose. Pat Silber’s path began during loss. After 16 years in the Air Force and later as a Department of Defense civilian, she joined the Legion following her husband Carl’s passing, who served a combined 26 years in the Army and Air Force. “I was lonely,” she says. What she found instead was kindness, understanding, and community. Now a dual member of the Post and Auxiliary, Pat describes the Legion

as a place where people come together to support one another and accomplish much through service and fundraising. Steve Kennedy, who served in the Army from 1967 to 1970, found the Legion familiar. Growing up in a small town in New York, he was used to everyone knowing everyone. After hearing about the Legion by word of mouth, he found the same sense of belonging in Windsor. Today, Steve serves as finance officer, board member, and games manager, keeping the post open and thriving. Commander Scott Esch discovered Post 109 after relocating from Michigan. Encouraged by his grandfather to join the American Legion, Scott searched online and walked through the doors with his wife. “We felt welcome immediately,” he says. A U.S. Army veteran and a Senior IT Manager of 38 years for a local agricultural company. Scott now leads the Post while raising a family involved in Legion programs: his daughter in the Youth Auxiliary, his son in the Sons of the American Legion. Past Commander Brad Irion, a Navy submarine veteran from 1975 to 1979, joined more than 20 years ago after a friend’s invitation. For Brad, the Legion represents both advocacy and continuity. “The American Legion is the largest voice for veterans in Washington, D.C.,” he says, “but it’s also about local help and day-to-day support.”

A SECOND HOME

Members say the people are what keep them coming back. “It's a sanctuary,” Eric says. “As a veteran, you miss the brotherhood. You get that back here.” Through color guard ceremonies, CONTINUED >

“In the military, your Steve Kennedy, Army veteran, keeps Post 109 thriving as finance officer, board member, and games manager - where everyone feels known and welcome.

celebrations of life, and honoring veterans, Eric sees patriotism passed to younger generations. He emphasizes that Post 109 is open not only to veterans but to supporters, many of whom are the most generous members. Pat speaks of the shared language of service. “You miss the camaraderie,” she says. “In the military, your background doesn’t matter, only why you’re there.” That bond, forged through shared mission and trust, lives on in the Legion walls. Steve sums it up simply: “Everyone knows you. Everyone supports you.” Scott compares the atmosphere to Cheers. “You come in as a friend, and you leave as family,” he says. “After a month, everyone knew my name. There’s instant trust. You can open up about your experiences.” Brad sees the Legion as a bridge, connecting veterans back to service and forward to the future. “Vietnam vets weren’t treated well,” he remembers. “I never want to see that happen again.” For him, the Legion ensures veterans remain visible and valued in the community, serving on school boards, driving buses, mentoring youth, and being recognized by the town they served.

MOMENTS THAT MATTER

The impact of Post 109 often reveals itself quietly. Eric shares a time when he struggled with PTSD, homelessness, and despair. “The Legion gave me a job and a place to stay,” he says. “They helped me get back on my feet.” For Eric, the Legion didn’t just offer support - it saved his life. Pat recalls a Christmas party hosted at a fellow member’s home. “It was genuine, fun, and relaxing,” she says. “I felt like I belonged.” Steve remembers being honored by the Color Guard at a Windsor High School football game, flipping the coin at halftime to a cheering crowd, a moment he’ll never forget. Brad recounts a flag-folding ceremony for a World War II veteran performed at the family’s home. “Seeing the tears,” he says, “you realize how much this means, not just to the service member but to their family.” He speaks of military spouses, recalling the long silences and heavy responsibilities of Navy wives during submarine deployments. “While Submariners are submerged, the spouse may feel like they are drowning. Recognizing that matters.”

background doesn’t matter, only why you’re there. That instant bond, forged through shared mission and trust, lives on within the Legion walls.” - Pat Silber

MORE THAN A VETERANS’ ORGANIZATION

While rooted in service, Post 109 is far more than a veterans-only space. The Post supports Auxiliary programs, Sons of the American Legion, Riders, and youth shooting sports - one participant is on the road to becoming an Olympian! It sponsors Boy Scouts, youth baseball, Boys and Girls State scholarships, and Auxiliary scholarships for local high school juniors. The Post provides immediate financial assistance to veterans in need and hosts family-friendly events like Turkey and Ham Bingo, live music, karaoke, and community celebrations. “We want people to know we’re open to the public,” Steve says. “If we weren’t, we wouldn’t survive.” Scott echoes this: “Everyone is welcome. Your background doesn’t matter.” From leading parades to hosting family events, Post 109 is deeply woven into Windsor’s civic life. Brad invites community participation; volunteering, joining the Sons of the American Legion, Auxiliary, Riders, or simply stopping by. “Every dollar spent here goes back into supporting veterans and youth,” he says. “It’s about paying it forward.”

Commander Scott Esch, U.S. Army veteran and local business owner, with Johnny Herrera, Army radar maintenance mechanic for the Nike Hercules missile system.

More than a meeting place, Post 109 is where camaraderie lives and community is built.

A quiet corner of Post 109, where service, remembrance, and pride are honored every day.

“As a veteran, you miss the brotherhood. You get that back here.” - Eric Salisbury. When asked to sum up the Legion in one word, members reply: Home. Camaraderie. Sanctuary. Community. Love. At Post 109, these words aren’t slogans; they are lived every day. For veterans not yet born, families serving quietly behind the scenes, and a town that understands service’s value, the doors remain open, as they have for nearly eight decades. “If you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came,” stop by American Legion Post 109 at 624 Ash Street. Whether you’re a veteran, associated with one, or a supporter of veterans, you will feel welcome and treated right.

AU TO C LU B | AUTO + MARIN E

In Windsor, Colorado, where trucks double as workhorses and family vehicles carry the marks of daily life, Show Shine Detail and Reconditioning has built a reputation on something deeper than surface-level shine. What began as a small operation inside a car wash has grown into a purpose-built facility known for precision, honesty, and an almost obsessive respect for the craft of auto reconditioning. Thirty years ago, Owner Jarrel Ferrara started the business modestly: himself, a car wash, and a lifelong passion for cars. Jarrel describes himself simply as a “car guy,” but that understatement masks a clear entrepreneurial instinct. Early on, he began visiting local dealerships with a bold pitch: give me your worst vehicle, and I’ll show you what I can do. The strategy worked. One dealership turned into ten, and the demand quickly outgrew the original space. As the workload increased, so did the team, followed by a move into a brick-and-mortar shop in East Windsor’s industrial area. Inside the shop, “quality” isn’t a buzzword, it’s a system built on people. Every vehicle moves through a deliberate, team-driven process designed for consistency and accountability.

CRAFTSMANSHIP THAT SHOWS BEYOND THE SHINE

Owner Jarrel Ferrara (center) with Show Shine Detail and Reconditioning team members Holly Pinney (left) and Kyle Gomez (right).

Interior specialists, exterior technicians, and prep professionals each play a defined role, and no car leaves without a full quality control check. Jarrel is quick to credit his team as the backbone of the operation, calling them his greatest resource and emphasizing that Show Shine’s reputation would not exist without their skill, pride, and attention to detail. Just as important is transparency; customers are told what can be fixed through detailing, and what cannot. That honesty has become part of the brand’s credibility. The goal, Jarrel says, is simple but ambitious: to give customers the feeling they had the first time they ever sat in their vehicle. It’s a standard that requires far more than cosmetic work. Reconditioning, at its highest level, often means starting from the ground up - literally. Minivans may require seat removal to access deeply embedded dirt. Jeeps sometimes need their carpeting removed entirely to clean and restore the original metal floor beneath. Seats are extracted, carpets thoroughly washed, headliners brushed with care, and soft interior materials treated with techniques that prevent damage while restoring integrity.

On the exterior side, paint correction is treated as a discipline, not a shortcut. Two technicians were sent to specialized training to become certified - one of whom has been with the company for 15 years, another for nearly five. Jarrel notes that while many shops claim expertise in paint correction, true mastery requires training, patience, and experience. “It’s an art form,” he says plainly. In an industry often driven by speed, Show Shine walks a careful line between efficiency and craftsmanship. The workflow never changes, even when timelines are tight. Prep comes first, followed by evaluation, then execution in a specific order designed to maximize results without compromising the finish. The reward for that discipline comes not from rushing cars out the door, but from customer reactions. One phrase, repeated often, stands out: “It wasn’t this clean when I bought it.” For the team at Show Shine, that’s the highest compliment, and the standard they chase every day. Outside of Show Shine, Jarrel brings the same dedication to improvement to another type of “body shop”: Gold’s Gym. “You CONTINUED > MAR CH 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / W I N D S O R

may know me as the guy who takes care of your vehicles; now I can help you take care of your health,” he says confidently. For over a year, Jarrel has owned and operated his own franchise, focusing on education, discipline, and helping people reach their full potential. Whether he’s working on cars or coaching clients, his philosophy is the same: care, consistency, and long-term results. In a town that values hard work and reliability, Show Shine Detail and Reconditioning has carved out its place by proving that real craftsmanship still matters, and that “clean” can mean something far more lasting than a shine. Built for How You Live in Colorado Peterson Canvas & Awning: Experience, Performance, and Personalization Shaping Outdoor Spaces that Feel Like Yours Colorado, with its scenic views, over 300 days per year of sunshine, and vibrant seasons, provides the perfect backdrop for outdoor living experiences. Northern Coloradobased Peterson Canvas & Awning LLC have helped homeowners enjoy their outdoor spaces for nearly 70 years. Current owners, Natalia Crofut and Gilles Arnaud, bring topnotch products and service to the Northern Colorado region, guided by Natalia’s three decades of manufacturing experience. Homeowners benefit from a process that begins with seeing each project through their eyes, shaped by how they would want the experience to feel. Needs of the clients guide every decision in this collaborative approach with careful attention paid to what they hope to achieve and how they imagine using the space. Beyond the initial vision, thoughtful considerations - sun orientation, the sun’s seasonal path, daily use patterns, time-ofday comfort, and the home’s architectural character - all influence the design and ideal placement of the final product. The surrounding landscape also plays a role, including nearby trees, neighboring homes, walkways, and other visual elements that contribute to the overall harmony of the space. The homeowner’s perspective shapes every conversation, grounding each project in how the space should feel and function for the people who live there. The clients’ needs are at the center of every recommendation

made by the sales team, Natalia and Jim, drawing on their expertise to guide decisions about proportions, materials, construction methods, and details such as the best way to attach an awning to the home. They consider practical questions - like whether ambient light might interfere with a mobile workspace, which could call for a darker fabric, or whether a drop shade would help when the sun dips beneath an awning. To give homeowners a clear sense of the final environment, they work closely to refine scale, line, and color, ensuring the awning complements the architecture and truly feels as though it “visually belongs to the house.” Performance is non-negotiable for the Peterson team - from the sales team, the office manager, to the seamstresses and installers. To provide the best possible experience for their clients, they work closely with manufacturer, Eclipse Outdoor, which provides excellent warranties and real-time customer support - something not commonly found in the industry. This partnership allows Peterson

to offer homeowners in-the-moment answers, expert recommendations, and exceptional products. Installers James and Rachael bring just as much care and personal touch to the installation process, listening carefully to each client to ensure the installation is just as the client desires. A job is not considered complete until the customer is 100% satisfied. Some homeowners are pleasantly surprised by how dramatically their outdoor living experience can change with thoughtful shade and protection. Peterson Canvas & Awning LLC wants that experience to feel inviting, helping people picture how different life will feel once comfort, shade, and even privacy enhanced by options like solar screens - are in place. Peterson recognizes that these designs are a true investment, often functioning as an additional room of the house and encouraging homeowners to linger, relax, and entertain outdoors. Enclosures can shield against wind and shifting weather, and when paired with heaters, even Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter gatherings can comfortably move outside.

Custom sail shades by Peterson Canvas & Awning LLC bring layered shade and visual interest to outdoor spaces, balancing comfort with architectural harmony.

“A job is not considered complete until the customer is 100% satisfied.” March is the ideal time to begin planning the transformation of your outdoor living space. Because each product is custom and crafted to a high standard, the turnaround time is generally four to six weeks. Thoughtful planning now makes it easier to enjoy your outdoor space throughout the year. From retractable awnings to solar screens, interior shades, sail shades, and pergola covers Peterson Canvas & Awning LLC brings personalized care and attention into every project. In addition to their premium shade solutions, they provide custom sewing of anything from dog beds to fireplace covers. CLARITY, COVERAGE, and Community Michelle Box, trusted advisor at South Platte Agency, helps homeowners navigate insurance decisions with clarity, education, and a client-first approach.

HOW SOUTH PLATTE AGENCY SERVES COLORADO HOMEOWNERS ARTICLE BY BRITTANY BISCEGLIA | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEN PIERCE PHOTOGRAPHY

EXP E RT H E LP | P RO FES SION AL SE RVICE S

Homeowners insurance can often feel overwhelming, filled with unfamiliar terms, exclusions, and assumptions that lead many people to believe all policies offer the same protection. At South Platte Agency, a Colorado-based insurance brokerage, changing that mindset through clear education is a top priority. One of the most common misconceptions homeowners have is that a cheaper policy provides comparable coverage. In reality, the difference often comes down to Actual Cash Value (ACV) versus Replacement Cost Value (RCV). South Platte begins by quoting RCV, which reimburses homeowners for the full cost to replace damaged property without factoring in depreciation. While ACV policies may cost less upfront, they frequently result in significant out-ofpocket expenses after a claim. By clearly explaining these differences, South Platte empowers clients to choose coverage that aligns with both their budget and long-term protection needs. Risk evaluation is equally thoughtful and precise. Coverage is based on the true value of the home, using appraisals, mortgage information, and built-in home value estimators that factor in location, fire district zones, and regional rebuilding costs. These estimators cap policy limits, ensuring homeowners are adequately insured without paying for unnecessary coverage. In Colorado’s unpredictable climate, South Platte emphasizes the importance of wind, hail,

and fire coverage, along with sufficient personal liability and medical payments coverage. Just as critical is helping clients understand policy exclusions - specific events or types of damage that are not covered. Exclusions are clearly outlined in policy documents and vary by insurer, making it essential for homeowners to review them carefully and ask questions. Transparency continues throughout the life of the policy. South Platte encourages annual reviews to revisit Declaration pages, reassess coverage, and shop for competitive pricing as circumstances change. Clients are also educated on claim-related endorsements, such as temporary roof exclusions that may be applied until repairs are completed and documented. This client-first approach reflects the values of trusted team member Michelle Box. Raised in a small rural Nebraska town near the Colorado state line, Michelle spent 25 years in the medical field before transitioning into insurance, bringing the same commitment to helping others. Now living in Windsor with her husband, she enjoys the town’s welcoming, small-town feel. “Insurance still gives me that same satisfaction,” she says, “because I’m helping people protect what matters most.” At South Platte Agency, insurance isn’t just about policies, it’s about people, clarity, and community. Althoff team members (L-R) Katrina, Lexie, Dr. J, Dr. A, Amber, and Sherri.

Dr. Jill Althoff, DC, founder of Althoff Wellness Clinic, highlights the importance of clean, absorbable supplements guided by education - not guesswork.

How Well-Intentioned Wellness Habits Can Stall Healing Without the Right Guidance

THE TOXIC TRUTH ABOUT SUPPLEMENTS ARTICLE BY DR. JILL ALTHOFF, DC PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVID GROSSMAN WITH COLORADO PHOTOGRAPHY

Homes are where many of the most important health decisions are made. Meals are prepared in the kitchen, water is filtered at the sink, sleep routines are built in the bedroom, and for many families, a lineup of supplements sits on the counter, taken day after day with the best of intentions. More than 80% of Americans take supplements, often hoping to support energy, immunity, or overall wellness. A daily vitamin here, an immunity boost there. But most people have no reliable way of knowing whether those supplements are actually being absorbed, whether they are safe to take alongside medications, or even whether the ingredients listed on the label accurately reflect what is inside the bottle. According to Dr. Jill Althoff, DC, a Windsor-based chiropractor who incorporates functional medicine principles into her work, supplement routines are one of the most common areas of confusion she sees. Many individuals and families are doing their best to support their health at home, but relying largely on guesswork. Over time, those guesses can quietly add up to wasted money, stalled progress, and in some cases, symptoms that fail to improve or gradually worsen. When progress slows, it is easy to assume the body is to blame. Few people think to question the bottle sitting on the counter.

H EA LT H Y LIF E ST Y LE | H E ALT H + WE LLN E SS

TRUTH #1: SUPPLEMENTS ARE NOT REGULATED LIKE PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS

Many consumers assume supplements are regulated in the same way prescription medications are. They are not. As a result, quality can vary widely from brand to brand, and labels can be misleading. Two products may appear nearly identical on the outside while delivering very different results. Dr. Althoff notes that with supplements, much of the responsibility for evaluating purity, sourcing, and accuracy falls on the consumer. Popularity alone is not a reliable indicator of quality or effectiveness.

TRUTH #2: A CLEAN-LOOKING LABEL DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN CLEAN INGREDIENTS

Supplements often contain added ingredients unrelated to health benefits. These additives may be used to enhance appearance, extend shelf life, or reduce manufacturing costs. Common examples include artificial dyes, titanium dioxide, carrageenan, and certain preservatives. For individuals already managing chronic inflammation, digestive challenges, autoimmune conditions, diabetes, or nerve-related symptoms, these additional ingredients may place unnecessary stress on systems that are already working hard to stay balanced.

TRUTH #3: MANY SUPPLEMENTS FAIL BECAUSE THEY ARE POORLY ABSORBED

One of the most common frustrations people express is, “I’ve been taking this for months, and I don’t feel any different.” Dr. Althoff explains that absorption is one of the most overlooked factors in supplement effectiveness. A frequently cited example is magnesium. Magnesium is commonly taken to support muscle relaxation, sleep quality, stress response, bowel regularity, and recovery. However, many widely available products rely on magnesium oxide because it is inexpensive and easy to manufacture. The challenge is absorption. Magnesium oxide is estimated to be absorbed at only about 3%. This means someone can be diligent and well-intentioned, yet receive very little usable benefit. Absorption depends on several factors, including supplement form, dosage, timing, digestive health, inflammation levels, age-related changes, and certain medications. Without considering these variables, supplements may never reach the cells they are intended to support.

TRUTH #4: SOME SUPPLEMENTS MAY WORK AGAINST CERTAIN HEALTH CONDITIONS

Supplement choices are not one-size-fits-all. Dr. Althoff cautions that some commonly used supplements may not be appropriate for everyone. Joint supplements such as glucosamine or chondroitin are a common example. While helpful for some individuals, these supplements may reduce nitric oxide levels in others. Nitric oxide plays an important role in circulation and blood flow, particularly to the hands and feet. For individuals managing diabetes, circulation concerns, or neuropathy symptoms, maintaining healthy blood flow is critical. This is one reason individualized supplement guidance is often recommended.

TRUTH #5: MEDICATIONS AND MEDICAL HISTORY CHANGE THE RULES

Certain supplements can interact with medications by altering absorption, increasing bleeding risk, or placing added stress on detoxification pathways. Dr. Jenny Saboy, DC, notes that medication history and prior medical procedures significantly change how supplements should be selected, particularly for individuals taking blood thinners, managing kidney disease, recovering from organ transplantation, or who have undergone bariatric surgery. In these situations, guessing is not considered a safe approach.

TRUTH #6: LOW-QUALITY AND COUNTERFEIT SUPPLEMENTS ARE A GROWING CONCERN

With the rise of online purchasing platforms, low-quality and counterfeit supplements have become increasingly common. Labels and branding can be closely replicated, making products appear nearly identical to reputable brands, while the contents inside may not match what is advertised. Because supplements are not regulated like prescription medications, claims such as “third-party tested” are not always independently verified. Purchasing supplements from trusted sources and seeking professional guidance can help reduce unnecessary risk.

A MORE INTENTIONAL APPROACH TO SUPPLEMENTS AT HOME

Rather than taking numerous supplements without clear purpose, Dr. Althoff encourages building a thoughtful foundation that supports energy production, nervous system balance, inflammation control, healing, and long-term resilience. At Althoff Wellness Clinic, five supplement categories tend to show up most often in homes across Northern Colorado. These are the supplements people reach for to support energy, sleep, inflammation, joint health, and immune function — yet they are also the ones most frequently misunderstood.

A FOUNDATIONAL MULTIVITAMIN

Often taken to support energy, immune health, and overall resilience. Quality, dosing, and absorption vary widely, and not all formulations are designed to support cellular repair and recovery.

MAGNESIUM

Commonly used for muscle relaxation, sleep, stress regulation, recovery, and bowel regularity. The form of magnesium matters significantly, as some types are absorbed far more effectively than others.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY SUPPORT

Frequently taken to help manage joint pain, stiffness, and chronic inflammation. Ingredient sourcing, dosage, and interactions with medications are important considerations.

COLLAGEN OR CONNECTIVE TISSUE SUPPORT

Often used to support joint comfort, mobility, and tissue repair. Effectiveness depends on formulation and how well the body can utilize the nutrients.

VITAMIN D

Commonly taken to support immune health, mood, and muscle function, particularly in indoor lifestyles. Dosage needs can vary widely from person to person. According to Dr. Althoff, many people are surprised to learn how much quality, absorption, and testing can vary within these common supplement categories. To help reduce confusion, Althoff Wellness Clinic works with supplements that are third-party tested and carefully formulated for absorption and consistency. These supplements are offered under the clinic’s own label, with the intention of helping individuals feel confident about what they keep in their homes and take each day. Supplements can be powerful tools, but only when they are clean, absorbable, and appropriate for the individual. When the form is wrong, the dosage is mismatched, or the product quality is poor, the body may not benefit as intended — and progress can quietly stall.

Owners Nick and Kari Schaneman with their family - building Bumble Bee Blinds as a business rooted in home, balance, and community.

How Bumble Bee Blinds Transforms Houses into Homes

Creating a Cozy Hive 46

Kari brings a designer’s eye and precise planning to every window treatment, balancing function, style, and comfort.

A home is more than just four walls and a roof. It’s a sanctuary—a place where we find comfort, security, and a reflection of our personal style. For Kari and Nick Schaneman, owners of Bumble Bee Blinds, the journey to helping homeowners craft these intimate spaces started with an unexpected turn in life. In May of 2023, Nick was laid off from his long-time career in energy, a shift that propelled him toward the dream of owning his own business. With Kari stepping in to manage day-to-day operations, the couple took a leap of faith, launching Bumble Bee Blinds with a commitment to quality, integrity, and community.

MORE THAN JUST WINDOW COVERINGS

A curated selection of fabrics and finishes reflects Bumble Bee Blinds’ focus on quality, customization, and long-term durability.

At first glance, window coverings might seem like a simple aesthetic choice, but they play a much bigger role in shaping the atmosphere of a home. Bumble Bee Blinds creates spaces that feel safe, warm, and uniquely personal. With an interior designer on staff, they help homeowners select treatments that blend function and style, ensuring each space reflects the homeowner’s vision. Their selection includes energy-efficient shades for budget-conscious customers, artisan fabrics to elevate ambiance, and eco-friendly materials that make a statement while supporting sustainability. “When we started the business, one of the first tasks was developing our core values,” Kari says. “Do what you say, do the right thing, choose your mood (and make it a good one), and always work to positively impact the community and those around you.” Initially, Kari wasn’t sure how selling blinds could positively impact the community. But looking back, she realized just how much they had contributed. “I realize we really have made a difference,” she reflects. “We truly care about our customers. If a customer is going to have a problem, we want them to have that problem with us because we will make it right.” supporting other businesses through referrals, their impact reaches far beyond window treatments.

JUGGLING BUSINESS AND FAMILY LIFE

Running a business while raising three young children has its challenges. “Some days I want to quit. Starting a business is hard, especially with limited experience. My husband is an eternal optimist. He helps to drive us forward and see all the good things we have done,” Kari vulnerably shares. Their kids love coming to the warehouse, seeing firsthand the success their parents are building, and being a part of something that is truly family focused. Regardless of the challenges, Bumble Bee Blinds continues to thrive. In their first two years of business, they covered nearly 2,500 windows and were honored as Best of NOCO for the past two years. Their dedication to quality ensures that every customer receives top-notch window treatments that last. As Kari puts it, “We stand behind our work and our products to make sure you have an experience that is as sweet as honey. We also love bee puns,” which is apparent from the moment you speak with Kari or step in the Bumble Bee Blinds office and warehouse.

A BUSINESS ROOTED IN COMMUNITY

Bumble Bee Blinds isn’t just about beautifying homes— it’s about giving back. They actively participate in the local

Chambers of Commerce and community events, strengthening their connection to the residents of Northern Colorado. They have donated time and resources to charitable initiatives, including a golf tournament supporting Stillwater Ranch benefitting veterans and their loved ones. Their involvement with Habitat for Humanity is another testament to their commitment, as they participated in a Women’s Build Day and provided window treatments for the new homeowner when she moved in early last year. Beyond their charitable efforts, Kari and Nick believe in fostering a supportive business community. They work closely with other small business owners, building relationships that go beyond transactions. Their referrals help fellow businesses thrive, and they take pride in knowing that their work contributes to the overall success of the local economy.

TURNING A HOUSE INTO A HOME

Window treatments aren’t just functional; they set the mood of a home. Soft draperies create a cozy, romantic ambiance, natural materials make a bold statement while being eco-friendly, and shutters offer timeless elegance that can increase a home’s value. Whether a homeowner is looking for energy-efficient solutions or custom designs, Bumble Bee Blinds offers options that enhance comfort, privacy, and style.

Kari works with a homeowner to select window treatments that reflect both lifestyle and personal style.

Kari jokes that she now notices window treatments everywhere—at friends’ houses, restaurants, even in movies and TV shows. Once you’re fully immersed in the world of blinds, there’s no going back. And while she and Nick love bringing style and function to homes, they also find humor in the little things, keeping their journey lighthearted amid the hard work.

A FAMILY-FOCUSED FUTURE

Despite belonging to a national franchise under HorsePower Brands, Kari and Nick have made Bumble Bee Blinds their own. With three other franchise locations in Colorado, they have built strong relationships with fellow owners, exchanging support and ideas daily. Yet, at its core, their business remains deeply personal. Their team is an extension of their family. When designer Jessica welcomes her second child in April, Kari looks forward to babysitting—allowing Jessica to continue creating beautiful solutions for residential and commercial spaces. For them, family life and business life flow together naturally, reflecting their core belief that success should never come at the expense of personal connection.

THE BUMBLE BEE PROMISE

At the end of the day, their mission is simple: to make the process of transforming a space as easy—and sweet—as honey. From the initial consultation to installation, they bring professionalism, passion, and, of course, plenty of bee puns. Every product is backed by limited lifetime warranties, ensuring that homeowners not only receive top-notch window treatments but also peace of mind. Bumble Bee Blinds isn’t just selling blinds; they’re creating spaces that feel like home. And thanks to their unwavering dedication, their customers can rest easy knowing they’re in good hands. Rooted in Windsor. Built on Family, Skill, and Style.

Timeless, Sophisticated, and Perpetually Contemporary. Pro Studio started with a simple idea: create a space that feels like home, where everyone, clients and stylists alike, can show up, feel comfortable, and leave confident. What began as a local dream has grown into a downtown Windsor destination for hair, skin, and nail care that brings the whole community together.

A Family-Owned Studio with Local Roots

Pro Studio is proudly family-owned and operated. The team behind the chairs isn’t just a crew of stylists and barbers, they’re family in every sense of the word. Co-Owner Jessica Martinac grew up right here in northern Colorado and with her father’s guidance and wisdom they wanted to build something that reflects the energy of Windsor itself: friendly, hard-working, and full of heart.
