September is our style issue. When most people hear the word "style", they automatically think of fashion. I will agree it crosses my mind, however, style means so much more to me. I would like to think my style is more than what I wear. Style can be how we treat others... what we like to eat... where we like to travel (beach all day long for me)... how we give back to our community... how we decorate our home... etc.
I have been told my style is classic. I have very few pieces in my closet that are trendy. Our home is very cozy and inviting. l try to give back to my community in many ways; volunteering, acting on boards, donating when possible, and just plain showing up for the community. I had the pleasure of showing some of my style and a little bit of my "sass" in July by dancing in the Boys & Girls Club Weld County DWTS fundraiser. I was dedicated and we practiced for months. It showed by winning the "Best Dance" award of the evening with my dance partner Brandon Weyant. He is with Country KickUp which is a nonprofit organization. The event helped raise over $85,000 for the kids and all the participants did amazing. We all came to win and raise money for the kids! Sooooo fun!!!
This month, I challenge you to find your style and enjoy what you bring to the table. We hope you find some inspiration in the pages ahead, as we have you covered with a little taste of Italian style that Cacciatore creates and a peek into RE/MAX Alliance agent Christina Koder’s home, fashion, and what makes up her own unique style. Stay stylish, Windsor. We can’t wait for you to flip through these pages and enjoy the style we have captured for you.

Christina Koder operates with a style and a flair that is all her own and there are numerous words you could choose to use when describing her. A few that come to mind are determined, hardworking, independent, gracious, adventurous, kind, creative, welcoming, motivating, strong, and inspiring; all of which only seem to scratch the surface of who she really is as a person, friend, or businesswomen. In sitting down with her, we learned a few things about style, grace and taking the time to slow down.
A lot of things in Christina Koder’s life have been either self-taught or were a natural ability that was nurtured in her. Growing up in Platteville CO, she experienced a childhood filled with everything from camping, hunting, fishing, dirt bike riding, and mechanics to horseback riding and floral design. Her father helped her learn adventure and instilled in her skills most girls never get a chance to learn. Christina also credits her mother and her aunt Carolyn as two of the women that taught, encouraged, and helped foster her passion, creativity, and natural eye for all things design, which in turn, has blossomed into a love of fixing things, remodeling, and renovating homes, furniture, and more.
From her first business named Chrissy’s Crafts, to operating a wedding design, rental, and floral company, to then an interior decorating business, and now real estate, Christina Koder has managed to merge her passions into her career. A talent that has not only helped her succeed but has helped her integrate her creativity and thrive in a competitive and ever changing world.
A real estate agent since 2005 with RE/ MAX Alliance, Christina finds numerous things she loves about her job. Being a part of one of the biggest investments someone will make in their lives, whether it’s with a first-time home buyer, repeat customer, or seasoned investor, it truly is what she enjoys doing. She can apply her passion as a decorator to her client’s benefit; this includes getting their home ready for sale, whether it’s hiring contractors to make repairs, helping her clients to stage, rearrange and use their accessories to decorate their home before listing it, or helping buyers see the potential in a home that they may have otherwise overlooked. Not being afraid to pitch in and get her hands dirty, Christina never shies away from helping her clients. She will gladly step up to help paint, rip out carpet, do yard work, clean,
or even pull staples out of hardwood floors. “Helping someone realize they can have the American dream and building relationships has been one of most gratifying parts of my career as a real estate agent,” shares Christina.
“Helping someone realize they can have the American dream and building relationships has been one of most gratifying parts of my career as a real estate agent.” — Christina Koder
Through this approach to her career, her clients have come to know they have someone that will help through the work, not just the easy part and that they have a teammate that will make sure they don’t have to do it alone. Her business is repeat and referral, which is a nod to the character, expertise, and assistance that her clients receive with her.
Not only is she multifaceted in her career endeavors, but her hobbies as well. Christina is involved in a multitude of extracurricular activities, some of which are passions she also shares with her boyfriend Luke. Christina has her own Harley and enjoys day rides and the freedom she feels with the wind in her hair. She loves boating and found a love for wake surfing,
although this is not something she grew up doing, she fell in love with the opportunity after being on a friend’s boat at Horsetooth Reservoir. So naturally, in 2015 she purchased her own boat and she learned to do it all by herself. Her and her boyfriend Luke enjoy camping with their two dogs, Tootie (a black lab) and Ryfle (a yellow lab), either lakeside or in the mountains. Tootie, named for the ever present tooting she displayed as a puppy and Rifle who was named as an ode to one of the infamous Colorado towns, are both invaluable to their parents and a large part of both Christina and Luke’s lives. Some of their favorite evenings are spent camping by a lake in the mountains, boating with friends, and sitting by the campfire. Bonding over their shared interests, the couple finds adventure at almost every turn. Never one to back down, Christina is always growing, learning, and trying new things. She also has a love for volleyball, a good book, and an immense passion for music, attending 100s of concerts and even sponsoring the Greeley Stampede yearly.
Her new home, featured in our shoot, was something she stumbled upon while in the pursuit of land to build her own monitor style barndominium. While looking for her perfect dream property to build on, her current home came on the market. After seeing it, she wrote an offer that same night to get it under contract. She fell in love with the beautiful and bright kitchen and of course, the shop, which was big enough to house all the couple’s toys. With a porch made for relaxing and nights by the fire, her home offers a comforting and relaxing environment that seems in line with who Christina is.
She can back in a trailer, put a boat in the water, ride a Harley, enjoys working in the shop and owns more tools than most men, yet her most redeeming qualities shine in who she is as a person and how she shows up for those that mean the most to her. She shows us that a night on the porch with a good book can be just as rewarding as riding a Harley or operating a saw and that hard work and going the extra mile are always worth the effort.
“Never one to back down, Christina is always growing, learning, and trying new things.”
Troy Heller grew up cooking and while being a chef may be something that began out of necessity, it has become his life, his passion, and a labor of love. He began his chef journey at a fried chicken restaurant at the age of 14. Not long after that, he transitioned to working under the one chef, Anthony Chick, from the time he was 15, until around the age of 25 in various restaurants in Florida. By working his way up, he eventually became Anthony’s sous chef and gained notoriety within the company, ultimately, being offered a regional manager position for a restaurant in New Orleans called The Point at Algiers Landing. A unique restaurant because of its location, it sat on the sharpest point of the Mississippi River right after Canal Street where the river bends 45 degrees. Throughout his career, Troy has continued to work at numerous historical properties including The Plaines Hotel in Cheyenne, Wyoming and as the Executive Chef of the Stanley Hotel for the first 8 years he was in
Colorado. “My favorite part, initially when you get into the restaurant business and you start cooking it is all about the adrenaline and pace and being on time and the timing of cooking and delivering an experience in a few minutes under extreme pressure, it is challenging. And then it becomes a creative thing where now you are trying to do all those same things but you’re trying to elevate and create dishes that are complex and exciting and beautiful in that same environment and then you’re trying to bring that all together in an environment that you operate and take ownership of and that can be extremely gratifying,” states Troy.
One of the first places that Troy helped to develop was Ace Gillett’s in downtown Fort Collins. He designed the kitchen there and the tapas menu that was rated number one in northern Colorado. The potential goal from there was to grow into a space within the hotel that Ace Gillett’s was located in. After the hotel sold and
that fell through, he went back to the drawing board. Working with his partner, Mick Occhiato, they had the Jessup Farm opportunity sort of fall into their laps and the concept for Italian was conceived.
The original location for Cacciatore was in Fort Collins, in Jessup Farm and they operated out of that location for about 6 years. When sourcing for talent within the labor pool became scarce, they decided to change the concept for the restaurant and switch gears into tacos, tequila, and margaritas. Having already outlined the concept of the restaurant in Fort Collins, they had a basic roadmap laid out for their future location right here in Windsor.
The opportunity to come to Windsor was by happenstance. They had investigated the building ten years prior, but at the time, it was not in the cards. Troy's partner Mick reached out to the owners, Blue Ocean, who had a fire occur, resulting in the original tenants for the space
dropping off. When Troy, Laurie, and Mick came to walk through the space, it was just a shell of a burned-out building. Entering through what would later be the west room, there were boards leaning up against the dirt as an entrance, all the windows were blown out, birds living inside, dirty floors, water running down the walls, it took an imaginative and artistic eye to see the potential of what the space could become. The bones of the building, the brick, the cathedral style windows, the lake view, and the historical value of the 1884 building were something that appealed to Troy and Laurie immediately. Envisioning what they could create based on a model that had already been developed, they went to work creating their dream space.
Even with 100s of cookbooks and years of experience, Troy Heller is always researching to improve the taste, quality, and health of the recipes he creates and serves his customers. From new technologies and trends, to researching the history of towns and their hometown dishes; he dives into where their chilies come from, or what their cheese is like, what cooking techniques that dish features, or the style of pasta it has, in order to give each dish the authenticity and taste that can rival the regions they originate from.
Not only is the food authentic, but Chef Heller also goes above and beyond to make sure his restaurant is procuring and cooking with the healthiest products. Steering the menu in a healthy direction is paramount to Troy, he wants you to be able to come in and eat a pizza or a plate of pasta and leave feeling satisfied and content. Heading the menu in a health-conscious direction, they only use olive oil in anything they
cook, including sauces and dressing, nothing is fried in canola oil but instead peanut oil, they source products as locally as they can so that they can know the farmers and production processes intimately and they only use flour from Italy. Everything is made from scratch for every ingredient, in every dish. Aiming for their food to be beautiful and delicious but also something you can also feel good about eating, it is all about the outcome. This is a goal they are always working towards, consciously putting them leaps and bounds ahead of most restaurants in the country.
To add to an already impressive list of achievements, Troy also hunts, cures his own bacon, and cans, with a cellar full of fresh salsas, sauces, meat, potatoes and more. He makes all the sausage for the restaurant from scratch and cures the pancetta in house for all the dishes. His favorite meal to cook for himself is breakfast (might be because it is the only meal he gets to cook for himself) and if he could have one meal as his last, it would one hundred percent be fried chicken, done well of course.
The Hellers are super grateful for the love and support from the Windsor community during Covid and how the town of Windsor showed up for them in their difficult times too, the community has helped Laurie and Troy create an environment that they consider home. The Cacciatore motto “Come in as our guests and leave as family” is something that carries over into their employees as well. They enjoy being a real part of the fabric of the community and to have the chance to offer up their vision, that lives up to their standards and leaves people wanting to come back for more.
Most of us can say we have that one staple black dress that can be worn at any occasion, and the classic look is not only popular but is elegant and timeless. It is the dress in our closet that can be accessorized to fit the event and often is the dress we go back to time and again. It is one of the most versatile items we own, never goes out of style and looks good on anyone. But how did this classic look originate?
Prior to the 1920’s, black was reserved for funeral wear, but when Coco Channel made the bold move to print a short, black dress on the cover of Vogue in 1926, all of that changed. The popularity of the black dress skyrocketed, and it became one of the most influential pieces of clothing. Chanel transported fashion from tight corsets and bustles to straight-lined silhouettes. Because of its affordability, black remained a popular choice during The Great Depression. The black dress had another boom in popularity when “Breakfast at Tiffany’s’’ debuted, and Audrey Hepburn showcased her iconic black dress with long, black gloves. Today, people accessorize the black dress to fit any occasion.
We enlisted the help of stylist, Amani Skalacki, to show us how versatile the little black dress can be.
“We usually think of the little black dress as a piece you wear to an event. However, because black is so flattering on all body types and skin tones, women have multiple black dresses from casual to evening,” Amani says.
Although black is a timeless, classic look, that doesn’t mean it goes without personality. You can make it your own style by accessorizing to infuse new life into a dress that you already own.
“A sequin dress can be dressed up with heels, or that same dress can be transformed into a casual outfit with the addition of tennis shoes and an oversized blazer or a denim jacket. Transform that strappy dress you have been wearing all summer into an outfit that is perfect for chilly fall temperatures. Add a narrow scarf, a leather jacket and sandals or a tall pointy boot, and you have a whole new look for an evening out,” Amani adds.
If you have a dress in the back of your closet that you haven’t worn in years, don’t be afraid to dust it off and give it new life. “Take that evening gown you wore years ago to a tailor for a little transformation. Turn it into a high low dress-top that can be worn out with girlfriends or on a date night. Pair the top with leather leggings, ankle boots, a chunky belt and some statement jewelry, and now you have a piece that pushes the boundaries of the little black dress.”
Are you looking for the best cut or style of dress that works best for your body type? Amani provided this simple guide:
HOURGLASS FIGURE:
• V-necklines
• Cinched-in waistlines
• Tailored/fitted dresses
PEAR OR TRIANGLE FIGURE:
• Tailored dresses
• Off the shoulder
ATHLETIC FIGURE:
• Embellished
• Ruffles
• Empire waist
• Volume is your friend
APPLE FIGURE:
• Drop waist
• A-line
The dress that all body types can’t go wrong with is a wrap dress of any length.
