So Many Things to be Thankful For! Where to Start... This time of year all of us are asked what we are thankful for and most people respond with family, friends, a home and yes, these are all things that we should be thankful for. I want to tweak the word a bit and use the word grateful. This month and truly every day I am grateful to have a man in my life who loves me unconditionally, friends that have known me for years, and all the new friends that I have met this past year that have supported me and guided me. I am grateful that I have a friend who saw the vision for becoming the owner of Windsor Lifestyle way before I knew what she was even talking about. I am grateful to my Editorial Coordinator, Desiree Gustfason, for her positivity, her writing talent, and her all-around sweet presence. Grateful for the team of photographers and partners that help tell the stories of Windsor. And there are so many more to come. Our November issue is filled with people gathering, gratefulness, giving back to those who are in need, and learning more about the meaning of the American flag that our veteran's families receive during the flag folding ceremony. As you are reading this issue, I hope you can think of all the reasons you are thankful during this time of year and start a grateful practice beyond November.

know is that we are here for them as well, that is our mission is to provide assistance to veterans but to also give back into the community whatever the need is of our community we would like the opportunity to show how we can be part of that. I don’t think a lot of people know our mission, but as we grow the American Legion’s presence here in town, our goal is to give back and keep that mission going” shares Chaplain Jim Lelievre. Both Jim and Brad are involved within the community on multiple levels. Having served on school boards and heading projects that are aimed at education, patriotism, giving back, and being of service, they believe in lifting up those around them by leading through example. Taking their experience, discipline, and wisdom from their time in the service and in life, they apply their skills to their post’s mission of helping others. When approached about re-folding a flag for a veteran’s family that didn’t fit into a carrier box, they did

Since its establishment in 1919 the American Legion is not only a safe space for comradery and support, but it has also been our veteran’s biggest voice for change in Washington DC. Every post or association is focused on a mission within its walls, a mission to support, to provide compassion and empathy, to educate and honor, and to help their communities thrive. The Windsor American Legion is a unique post, in that it is open and welcoming to the public inside its walls. Led by Brad Irion (Commander), Jim LeLievre (Chaplain), and its incredible board members, are focused on giving back and welcoming in their community in an effort to make their mission something bigger than themselves and show up for all of those in need of assistance. “I think the perception is that it is only for veterans but our post is special because you do not have to be a veteran to be within the walls of this place and what I would like the community to

not take this call lightly. It is a great honor to be asked to perform this ceremony and they made sure to uphold the respect of that request. The folding of the flag ceremony carries with it a great history and a deeper essence, one that the public may not be fully aware of. There is a background for what every fold represents, giving each layer of that folded flag a purpose and deeper meaning. After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms that we are granted today because of their sacrifices. The end result presents the stars as utmost, reminding us of our national motto “In God we Trust”. At the end of the ceremony, the American Legion plays Taps, which is played on all military installations
signaling the end of the day; but during this particular ceremony, it is played alone to honor the service members who have given the ultimate sacrifice. For the families and individuals on the receiving end of their loved one’s American flag, it is an emotional experience; one full of gratitude, grief, love, and respect. The American Legion of Windsor offers its community a great gift in not only performing this ceremony but in welcoming its citizens with open arms. Patriotism, honor, and integrity are alive and well in the town of Windsor Colorado and their veterans can feel that spirit. Windsor Post 109 encourages you to stop in, spend time getting to know your local veterans and connecting with your story and your history. They hope to continue giving and being a part of something bigger than themselves and seeing that ripple strengthen the heartbeat of community in our society.

Gourmet Grub’s Double Double A Mouthwatering Mountain of A Burger INGREDIENTS: • • • • • • • • • • •
High quality hamburger bun Melted Butter Fry Sauce Minced Red Onion Shredded Lettuce Sliced Tomato High Quality burger or beef blend Salt and pepper American Cheese High Quality Bacon Pickles
DIRECTIONS: 01. Use a flat grill, Blackstone for this process. Heat the griddle to 450F and lightly
oil the griddle. Using a ladle, ladle the melted butter onto the front part of the grill making sure it is not a “hot spot” then place the buns on to toast. Place the beef pucks on the hot spot then using an oversized metal spatula smash the patties down a little wider than the bun, they will shrink once they cook. Season the patties as soon as they hit the grill. This is when you would warm the bacon on the grill if it were not already cooked. We are always going to have the tendency to want to flip the pucks before they are ready, be patient. You’re going take your time and carefully scrape away at the patty until It releases, do not do this until the color starts to show through from the raw part of the patty.
02. Pull the buns off the grill before you start to flip the patties. If you are cooking many of these at once maybe toast the buns ahead of time so you are not trying to do all this at once. Then flip the patties like previously mentioned, once flipped immediately place the cheese to melt then place the bacon on top of the cheese. We like to break the bacon in half, so it is evenly distributed. Once the cheese is melted place the patties on top of each other. Slather the fry sauce on the bottom of the bun followed by the red onion, shredded lettuce, and sliced tomato. Finish with the cooked patties and place the pickles on top of the patty. Place the top bun on and enjoy!!

As a young woman, some of Brooke’s biggest inspirations were witnessing her mother and father pursue businesses and careers all while being supportive and lifting others around them. Humor and kindness are some things that she both admires and has absorbed from her mother. She has learned that in life humor can help put things in perspective and help us face challenges with grace and a lighter heart. Seeing how every stylist and employee she has brings their own creativity and energy into the salon and how they are always willing to help and support one another is a big deal to Brooke. She wants to ensure that her employees feel backed and encouraged in their growth and building who they are as stylists and individuals. An environment where everyone is encouraged to embrace what makes them unique and to help others do the same also spills over into their clients. Focused on making sure the clients are comfortable and feel at home is a key ingredient to the magic of Suite C and it comes directly from their employees and stylists. Their goal is for each client to leave feeling inspired and more beautiful inside and out. Beyond appreciative for an amazing staff and group of women that are supportive of one another; Brooke is focused on growing and expanding their business and keeping her integrity as a business owner. Dementia Together Changing the Narrative of Dementia ARTICLE BY CYNDY LUZINSKI AND TEAM AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVID GROSSMAN OF COLORADO PHOTOGRAPHY November is the season of thankfulness. As the women of Dementia Together reflect on why they are thankful for the work they do, the words, “hope” and “joy” were consistently voiced. Dementia Together is a nonprofit organization in northern Colorado which is indeed focused on cultivating joy while building stronger connections for people living with dementia, care partners, families, and the community. Cyndy Luzinski, executive director of Dementia Together, shares, “I may not have been grateful at the time when my own dad experienced dementia, but I am surely grateful that our journey led me to discover the SPECAL®, the method that we teach for promoting lifelong well-being for anyone with dementia. Being able to leverage my dad’s experience and make it count for the greater good by sharing SPECAL® with others is a privilege. I’m thankful for every interaction where we get to see “ah-ha” moments of relief and hope when people learn about the simple dementia care method we share.” Cyndy’s team includes several other people whose lives have been personally touched by dementia as well. Together, the team’s mission is: No one has to walk the dementia journey alone. When the staff was asked what they are thankful for, their responses were true to the mission:

Insurance is not always everyone’s favorite topic of discussion, but State Farm agency owner Kaan Inceoglu and his staff are the type of humans we all hope for when the going gets tough. Their dedication and drive towards serving customers offers both comfort and peace of mind. This all stems from the way their owner approaches his business and his life. Growing up, Kaan learned one key piece of advice from his mother that he carries into both his personal and professional life: “Be present, live in the moment, and don’t sweat the small stuff.” He applies this philosophy by approaching each day with focus on being present with his employees. Kaan leads his agency with commonsense while taking that extra care to ensure the needs of his team members are continuously met. Approaching his business in this manner has allowed him to align his professional goals with those of his employee’s personal triumphs and milestones in life. “One thing I enjoy wholeheartedly is being in tune with my team and supporting them through their own personal journeys” shares Kaan.

Planting roots in Windsor has provided him with a community he loves to serve, and his agency offers a place where protection discussions can be had with an individual that genuinely cares about the outcome of everyone involved. Coming from a strong background in catastrophe and claims leadership, he takes his role as a small business owner seriously by honoring what has always been true for him in his life. Kaan has discovered that he finds fulfillment in being able to meet with customers face to face and helping them navigate difficult choices that better prepare them for what the future holds. He prioritizes insurance education for all his customers, as well as promotes financial literacy for our youth by chairing organizations with a strong focus on similar initiatives. Creating opportunities for others to pursue their dreams has become something he is passionate about. This enthusiasm for his work spillover into his team members, creating the professional growth that customers appreciate in an insurance and financial services organization. He is grateful for his team and the staff members that he considers part of the family. Kaan and the team reflect fondly on a great year, counting their many blessings and toasting to the future.

Brass candlesticks with brown taper candles create a simple and elegant centerpiece. Use familiar accents such as amber jars filled with dried grass foliage and brass pheasants to adorn the table. To add a little character to the table, use a recycled wine bottle as a vase. Are you planning to dine al fresco this fall? Create an earthy, fall garden party on the porch by using natural, organic elements, greenery and flowers. To make a statement, create a floral chandelier by hanging flowers upside down above the table using fishing wire (if your space allows). The centerpiece that runs down the length of this table consists of fresh eucalyptus with gold candlesticks and a ceramic pumpkin vase filled with flowers placed on top a tree trunk charger. Adding small pumpkins and fresh flowers along the center gives a little extra character. Instead of going with the classic white plate, enjoy a pop of color at your outdoor fall garden party with a blue place setting as a nod to the sky. Adding a cloth napkin and cloth placemat is a great way to add texture and more autumn color to your table. If the weather doesn’t cooperate on your day, bring the outdoors in with a lovely indoor garden party dressed up in fall foliage.
