Every May we dedicate our issue to the extraordinary women in Westport. We are thankful for each one of you and the impact you’ve made in our lives. You make us think, act, and laugh. Because of you, we’re more mindful, healthy, knowledgeable, and confident. The Women of Westport - there are so many, and our chosen few are only a sliver of the strong females in this wonderful community. We celebrate you and how we all encourage each other to succeed. Such as Chris Diguido, the angel behind Al’s Angels. It’s also the month of Mother’s Day. So let’s raise a glass of Bourbon Berry Smash (recipe in this issue) to every mother. Let’s encourage our family to fix us a fabulous lunch and/or give us a wonderful gift. Or how about a special getaway? We write about two trips in this issue which may be perfect for you. Though time marches forever onward, we know many of you are inclined to reset the clocks on your appearance. We’ve included some great advice for those of you who are interested. And for those who wish to commemorate a moment in time, our back page (90) lists our favorite local photographers for women and family. Thank you to all of the wonderful women in our lives.

Fabulous selection of candy.
The way Chris DiGuido sees it, there’s a reason Al’s Angels, the Westport-based nonprofit helping children and families, features her husband’s name, not hers. “He does ‘big picture,’” she says, taking a break from serving customers at Saugatuck Sweets, the couple’s popular ice cream-and-candy mecca on Riverside Avenue. “I sort of follow after – doing the thank-you notes, the organizing. He’ll see a problem and say, ‘we’re going to do this to help’ and I just fill in a lot of the blanks. “I’m there.” That’s just the kind of humble understatement you’re likely to hear from Chris, a woman who many say is the lead angel in the nonprofit’s name. In fact, Al is the first to extoll the boundless energy and compassion he found in the woman he married almost 44 years ago.
“Chris has been committed to Al’s Angels from the very first moment that the idea was inspired, almost 25 years ago,” he says. “It is that love of children that has kept her committed all of these years. Her love has no reservations or limitations. She has always treated the children that we serve like her own.” With a background in marketing and three children and seven grandchildren, Chris is officially vice president of Al’s Angels, which strives to lessen the burdens of children and families battling cancer, rare blood diseases and severe financial difficulties. Started in the couple’s garage, the organization has grown as a respected and powerful engine for good, fortified with a stalwart band of volunteers and donors. And they’re making an impact – both locally and globally – in the hearts CONTINUED > MAY 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM / W E ST P O RT

of those helpers and the health and happiness of recipients, Chris says. In November 2020, at the height of COVID-19, 150 volunteers packed 1,600 Thanksgiving meal bins for needy families throughout the region. St. Thomas Aquinas School in Fairfield recently held a Penny Challenge, collecting $2,000 for Al’s Angels. In Norwalk, Al’s Angels volunteers helped stock the food pantry at Room to Grow Preschool to help underserved students. Trumbull-based BodyShock by Geraldo raised more than $750 to support Angels for Afghanistan, the nonprofit’s drive to provide children’s clothing and essentials for refugee families immigrating to the United States. Another Al’s Angels fundraiser raised more than $114,000 to send a six-year-old with a rare disease to Duke University medical trials that might give his family hope for a brighter future. While they get many requests, Chris says she and her team try to focus their efforts on families in need in the tristate area. “The best thing is we usually see the people we’re giving to,” she says. “It’s the closeness.” As a late-winter sleet storm raged outside, Chris collected bags of medical supplies and hand-knit baby

blankets for families in the war-torn Ukraine, far afield but just as worthy, she says. Speaking of the youngsters facing an uncertain future in new lands, she wiped tears from her eyes. “The last few years have been hard,” she says of recent global unrest and the physical barriers necessary during the pandemic. “It’s fun doing this, but it’s also very sad sometimes. These kids, they didn’t do anything wrong. They’re so innocent. They don’t deserve this kind of thing.” With spring and summer coming, she was already planning the logistics for holiday hospital visits from St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport to North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, N.Y., and Union Community Health Center in the Bronx. Sometimes Al stands in for Santa, passing presents to young patients. Al’s Angels hopes to provide more than 3,200 families and nearly 6,000 children with Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah meals and gifts this year. “We do as much as we can and we really feel blessed that we can help,” she says. “It’s a lot of work, but we believe it’s what we should be doing.” For donations and more information visit AlsAngels.org

MOTHER’S NEW BRU NCH
Dear Kids, Thank you for the pancakes and bacon in bed last year. You know how much I’ve enjoyed getting that every single year. But you’re getting older and I know how much you love to tackle new challenges, especially when they’re, you know, pretty easy. So I thought you could make something besides the routine meal. Avocado toast and a berry bourbon cocktail(s) are simple to make and would be perfect for Mother’s Day! The recipes are below. Thanks kids! Love, Mom P.S. Make sure Daddy helps you. P.P.S. This is not breakfast. P.P.P.S. Do not sample the cocktail.

DETOX AND RETOX AT W FORT LAUDERDALE
ARTICLE BY ROBIN MOYER CHUNG
I hate to gain weight on vacations. Think about it: you have fun, eat, drink, then you return to alarm clocks blaring at 6 a.m., piles of bills, cold weather, and you have five extra pounds lurking around your midriff. Just… no. I mean, I love to lounge around on vacation but I want to earn the lounge time. Cardio class - Great! I’ve earned a champagne brunch and an afternoon on the beach. Strength session? Good for me - I’ll grab a margarita and bob around the pool for a few hours. I always feel better in the afterglow of a workout, and that’s how I like to feel on vacation. There are many of us out there, too. You may even be one. If you are, you’ll enjoy learning about the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. The W, like all Ws, is a hip luxury hotel. I arrived early (7:30 a.m. direct flight from Westchester), threw on my bathing suit, and hit the pool. I had heard about the 5th floor pool, WET, and headed there to swim (nap). The view above the ocean is stunning and I dig the black and white patterned tiles beneath the rows of white chaise lounges. There are two WETs, WET East and WET West. West is where you go to chill, East is where you go to not chill. West has an infinity hot tub which people love. At East there’s music, bar food like wraps, salads, burgers (the spinach salad is delicious), and drinks including custom cocktails. A plexiglass structure offers Instagrammers the opportunity to photograph themselves. Which is cool, but I’m shy when it comes to bathing suit selfies, so it didn’t consume much of my time. Plus I was too busy lazing between the great blue sky and the great blue ocean. A word on the rooms: every room has a balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water. It’s pretty spectacular, especially if your last hotel room overlooked the generator… I spent the rest of the day lounging about WET East; I liked the music and energy, but it wasn’t so distracting I couldn’t enjoy a book.

But, as I said, I must earn laze. Which meant a late afternoon Pure Barre class outside. I love Pure Barre and I know it’s a solid workout. I wondered if doing it in a high-end resort would present the same challenges as Pure Barre in Westport, or if they’d make it easy so that guests would feel like they’re stronger versions of themselves here than at home. Answer: no. It was as good as it is in Westport and I was grateful that the beautiful evening breeze distracted me a teeny bit from my “don’t like/really want” burning thigh pain. That night I dined with others at the sleek, urban Steak 954, James Beard award-winning chef Stephen Starr’s restaurant. As its name suggests, they serve steak. They also have a raw bar and serve a bunch of other delicious things, like locally caught fish. We ate family-style and tried different entrées, including a $205 American Wagyu steak which was halfway beyond amazing. There’s a 15-foot tank full of jellyfish against a wall at Steak954. Which are not, unlike lobsters in a lobster tank, cooked to order. Thankfully. They simply float around being mesmerizing, like an aquatic lava lamp. The next morning, having had an excellent dinner and wine the night before, I was torn between two options: breakfast in my room or breakfast while lolling around the pool. Fresh air won and I grabbed avocado toast and coffee at SoBe Vegan before heading to WET. Dining options are abundant at W. I loved SoBe Vegan which offers a “healthy twist on traditional American fare.” You can also eat poolside - wraps, salads, burgers or “grab and go” coffee, pastries, sandwiches and the like at El Vez (which I’ll get to later). Later that day I joined an outdoor spin class, “Sea Cycle,” on the terrace. I’ve never “spun” outside, nor at a hotel, and I went into it thinking, “Okay, this will be a pleasant, easy workout” (do you sense a theme?). Then the instructor kicked my b*tt. You could do it at any level and no one would notice but I’m cheap: I want to get the most I can out of a workout. Although the class didn't cost extra here. Still. (Oh - and there are regular bikes and a 2-mile path nearby, should you want to kick it old-school. Make a reservation, though!) When I boarded the afternoon cruise on the Intracoastal Waterway, I had that great “just worked out” feeling that I rewarded with the “I can consume everything” action. We brought hard seltzer and lunch from SoBe Vegan, which I would have enjoyed even if the view hadn’t been as glorious. There’s something about clear blue water that makes me believe in the goodness of humanity. And the gorgeous homes - those are fun to look at, too. Back at the hotel I did something I rarely do: a spa treatment. I’m not much of a spa person (too ticklish), but signed up for a detox massage because I thought it’d be nice to untangle some muscle knots. It felt incredible, actually, and the bright pink walls with white furniture gave it that “chic vacation” feeling. I wobbled out of the spa and changed for the evening. For dinner we hit El Vez (named after a Mexican Elvis impersonator), also a Stephen Starr restaurant, in the W. There were murals on the walls, brightly patterned

fabrics, and other fun, colorful touches. I had the snapper tacos with napa cabbage and baja mayo - muy bueno! And, of course, a Patron margarita (no salt). The next day I worked out in the fitness room then hit the beach. Due to weather patterns in the South, there were plenty of waves. Normally it’s smoother. On the last night we wandered through downtown Fort Lauderdale, which I loved because I’ve never been here before: I’ve only known it as a spring break destination. And it still is. We stopped for cocktails at Rhythm and Vine, which is a super cool indoor/outdoor beer garden with over-sized games like Connect-4 on the tables. Throughout the week different food trucks show up and on one Sunday a month they hold a “garage sale”: vendors sign up to hock their wares while people drink, which is always great for the vendors. You can order more than just beer and seltzer-y drinks can be ordered by the bucket. Then we strolled to dinner at Ya Mas! Taverna, a Mediterranean restaurant. The decor is lovely, inspired by the Greek islands: neutrals with touches of soft color and branches of hot pink azaleas. The cocktails are beautiful, and the menu is a lighter version of traditional Greek fare, such as chicken souvlaki, short rib moussaka, and stuffed grape leaves. The next day I returned to Westport. It’s finally spring, the days are longer, and I didn’t gain weight. Though re-entry into real life is typically tricky, this wasn’t so bad. (Photo: Eileen Sawyer)
Lori Cochran Executive Director, Westport Farmers’ Market (WFM)
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT AT WFM? “To be honest, I haven’t thought about it much. There’s a lot to be done so I guess I’ll wait until later in life to sit back and revisit it all. “I’m endlessly grateful that I took the chance to change my career and support a mission I believe in so deeply. I’m grateful to family and friends who have supported me at every turn. Westport is a special place - its leadership is instrumental in WFM being the organization it is today. I love my job and that’s something to be celebrated!”
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS? “To focus on the next generation of farmers’ market managers and embed my message: farmers’ markets must put farmers as their top priority.
“Continue to educate and influence prepared food vendors to source local ingredients that support area farmers AND I want to influence as many people as possible that green products are a must. Seeing plastic bags and receptacles at farmers’ markets is an oxymoron, in my humble opinion. “Work with up-and-coming chefs alongside Bill Taibe, who has remained a strong supporter of WFM and my efforts, to help them understand that buying from local farms provides so much beyond the food itself. As a chef you can influence your community by simply buying from a farmers’ market.” WestportFarmersMarket.com

YOU ALL MAKE WORKING TOGETHER LOOK SUPER FUN. IS IT, OR DO YOU WANT TO SLAP EACH OTHER? WHEN DID YOU DECIDE TO MAKE IT A FAMILY BUSINESS? Robin: “On around my 30th birthday the business was exploding. I happily joined with one stipulation: if we got to a point where we’d want to kill each other I’d leave, as it would not be worth compromising my relationship with her. Fast forward 25 years and while we’ve had our smack down moments for sure, at the end of the day we have such a true respect for each other and a love for our team and [our] business.”
I LOVE YOUR “FOOD ART,” THE WAY IN WHICH YOU SERVE OR DISPLAY YOUR FOOD. WHO’S THE BRAINCHILD BEHIND THIS? R: “Mom and I both studied design and love the art of playing with our food to create that food art. Our team gets excited to work on

research and development to help us execute new and inventive ways to serve our dishes. They are really jazzed when their creativity is showcased at our events, too. “
MARCIA, DID YOU EVER COMPETE FOR GIGS WITH MARTHA STEWART? Marcia: “No. She had just come out with her book called Entertaining and I was smitten. I told my husband I could do that, too, and he said ‘so do it’ and the rest is history. What’s amazing is that over the years we’ve been featured in multiple editorial pieces in her magazine and worked with her personally on events.”
HOW MANY PAIRS OF GLASSES DOES YOUR BROTHER, JEFFREY, OWN? R: “Over 100 pairs… not even a joke.” MarciaSelden.com
Kitt Shapiro Owner of WEST, daughter of an icon
IN YOUR BOOK, EARTHA & KITT, ONE OF MY FAVORITE ANECDOTES IS ABOUT YOUR MOM, EARTHA, FORCING YOU TO TRY ON AN OUTFIT THAT LOOKED RIDICULOUS ON YOU. WHAT DID IT LOOK LIKE? “It was a navy blue jacket and either dress or skirt, with a Peter Pan collar and gold buttons. I looked like I was enrolling into an old-fashioned Naval service.”
HOW IS YOUR STYLE REFLECTED IN WEST? “My mother often talked about how I had a very strong sense of ‘self-style’ even at a very young age. I always have fun with fashion and encourage my customers not to overthink their clothes. Wear them. Put that sparkly blazer with a pair of distressed jeans and t-shirt. Wear a classic skirt with motorcycle boots and a leather jacket. Enjoy your clothes. Don’t save them for special occasions.”
WHAT DID YOU DO PRIOR TO WEST? “I developed a lifestyle brand called Simply Eartha, accessories that SAY something, a tribute to my mother, incorporating her words, wisdom, and beauty with my designs. Prior to that, I ran her production company, Eartha Kitt Productions.”
EARTHA WAS HYSTERICAL AS YZMA IN “THE EMPEROR’S GROOVE.” “I think Yzma is one of the best Disney villains (yes, I am biased). Her desire for power and finding the fountain of youth resonates on so many levels. I think Disney got it right.” West2Westport.com SimplyEartha.com

YOU WERE IN THE FASHION BUSINESS FOR OVER 45 YEARS AND HAD YOUR OWN LINE OF CLOTHING. TELL US A BIT ABOUT THAT. “I first designed hand-painted and hand tie-dyed tees, then colorful washed silk separates. That morphed into a complete sportswear collection under the Sunny Leigh brand that was sold in almost every major specialty, chain, and department store in the country over the course of 30 years. “I dressed millions of women over the course of my career which led me to come up with my handle “old fashion guru” when I started blogging on Instagram.”
YOU’RE CONSIDERED AN EXPERT ON HIGH/LOW DRESSING. NAME A FAVORITE “HIGH” ITEM AND A FAVORITE “LOW” ITEM. “Thanks. That’s a compliment I proudly accept! One thing I’ve learned is that a high price does not dictate high quality and a good fit. “The Gucci blazer I bought in the Tom Ford era. It’s perfectly tailored, fits like a dream, and is the perfect accessory for almost any fashion scene. I can wear it with Old Navy jeans and a white flea market tank and feel like a billion bucks. “For low, the aforementioned Old Navy jeans. I find jean shopping more painful than bikini shopping - especially as our bodies age. I discovered the perfect fitting straight leg in the Men’s department last year that was on sale for $25.”

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MORE THAN JUST PICTURES. HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO GET TO THE DEPTH OF A SUBJECT? “I’ve always seen [photography] as a way of leaving a visual representation that we existed. We can either have images that truly capture us or ones that are a false representation. When I shoot, I’m thinking of not just today, but tomorrow and 20 years from now. I’m thinking of how you’ll feel when you look back at yourself in images I took and hopefully it’ll make you smile.”
YOU’VE WRITTEN SOME AMAZING STORIES AND ESSAYS, BUT NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW YOU AS A TALENTED WRITER. “I’ve recently joined a group and will finish my novel by the end of 2022. It’s set in Westport and is the type of book I’d want to read with characters we can all connect with.”
YOU’RE COMFORTABLE INVITING PEOPLE INTO YOUR STRUGGLES. DO YOU THINK THE OPENNESS YOU HAVE WITH YOURSELF ENABLES YOU TO BE A BETTER ARTIST? “I’m only doing this lifetime once and I’m not really concerned with impressing too many people. I know where I am and who I am in the world. Those that don’t like it don’t matter to me and that’s fine.”
IF YOU COULD PHOTOGRAPH ONE PERSON WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? “I’d give anything to photograph my father. I have only one photograph of him that I took and I look at it every day. He introduced me to photography not knowing how it would change my life and give me purpose. Our memories are sparked by photos and I want more memories of him because the real ones are starting to fade.” JerriGrahamPhotography.com CONTINUED > MAY 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . AS SOMEONE GLAMOROUS, WEALTHY, AND PRIVILEGED, YOU MANAGE TO SUCCESSFULLY POKE FUN OF PEOPLE WHO ARE GLAMOROUS, WEALTHY, AND PRIVILEGED. HOW DO YOU SUPPOSE YOU CAN DO THIS? “Um thank you so much-this interview is starting to become a real confidence booster. “I don’t really think about what I say, I just talk about my day, which is usually so embarrassing that what could come across as ‘cool’ immediately goes away when I start speaking. I basically want to show that no one’s life is ‘perfect’. For example, I talk about my nanny a lot, but she’ll

see me coming down in my flannel squirrel pajamas at 2 p.m. and she’ll go ‘Ooh your husband don’t deserve this, Courtie. He gonna leave if you keep looking like this.’”
DO YOU EVER GET HATE FOR BEING SO OPULENT? “Yes, one time someone left a comment on a picture I posted that my house should be in arch [sic] digest, and another person commented back that I should NEVER be in arch digest - that her family’s home in Naples has been in that magazine and I’m far too trashy to ever be in it. “I actually feel anyone who criticizes anyone clearly cares about them and feels threatened. If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t say anything.” @thecourtneydavis
(Photo: Mindy Briar)
YOU WERE A SPORTS BROADCASTER FOR 28 YEARS BEGINNING IN THE EARLY ‘90S, WHEN NOT MANY WOMEN WERE IN THE INDUSTRY. HOW DID YOU BUILD CREDIBILITY AMONG THE ATHLETES AND FANS? “Honestly, there were very few times that being a woman was an issue. Some trailblazers had gone before me that had a much more difficult time; they were initially denied access to locker rooms and were at an unfair advantage. But I found that as a woman I usually approached a story from a different perspective than most of the men, and players and coaches responded to it. “
YOU WERE PRESIDENT OF PINK AID RECENTLY. WHY DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED?
Deb Placey
Former Sportscaster and co-owner of The Post
“After so many years traveling and working nights, weekends, and holidays, it was a wonderful time in my life to give back and work locally. My mother passed away from breast cancer when I was very young. PinkAid initially asked me to do some hosting for their annual luncheon, but once I met the founders I was hooked on the mission. I joined the Board and ten years later became a Co-president.”
AAAAAND NOW YOU OWN A BEAUTIFUL HOME DESIGN STORE WITH FRIENDS, THE POST. HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN DESIGN AND IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN’T DO? “The guys used to joke with me - on off-days between games I’d browse in antique shops and search for fabric. “My best friend has a fabulous store in St. Louis, our hometown, and we decided to partner together and open a ‘Westport version’! It’s a lot of work... but a blast!” ThePostCT.com

PRIOR TO STARTING SAMANTHA YANKS CREATIVE (SYC) YOU WERE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF HAMPTONS MAGAZINE FROM 2009-2018. One of the many reasons we moved to Westport is that it reminds me of what I loved, and still love, about the Hamptons.”
WHAT ARE YOU FOCUSING ON SINCE MOVING TO WESTPORT, BESIDES SYC? “It’s important to me to be deeply rooted and knowledgeable about my community, to get to know the people who make this town what it is. As a former editor nothing gave me greater joy than supporting existing and discovering new

DO YOU NOW FEAR ELEVATORS OR FASHION AND MEDIA EXECUTIVES? “This was one of the most dramatic moments in my years as an editor. We were leaving the Oscar de la Renta show, en route to Narciso Rodriguez, and were stuck for hours in a tight elevator on a high floor. Needless to say it was fueled with some fear but, no, I was back in elevators with fashion and media executives the next day!” @theconnecticutedit

SEPTEMBER DIDN’T GET INTO GFA IN FIRST GRADE BECAUSE SHE WAS TOO SOCIAL. I’M REASONABLY CERTAIN YOU’VE COME TO TERMS WITH THIS, BUT WAS IT UPSETTING AT THE TIME? OR FLATTERING? YOU’VE BOTH SEEN WESTPORT SALONS COME AND GO. TO WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE THE LONGEVITY OF GREG AND TONY? K: “Always a little bit of timing and luck... in addition to quality work, consistency, and dedication.”
KATHRYN, YOUR DAUGHTER CREDITS YOU WITH THE IDEA FOR BLOW DRY. WHAT WAS YOU “A-HA” MOMENT? K: “In my generation, women styled their hair once a week. Our salon was busy with other hair
services and we saw a calling for space and stylists to accommodate blow-out clients. September then took it to the next level with no cuts or color.”

WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE HAIRSTYLE TREND? BESIDES THE MULLET. AND THE BEEHIVE. K: “Hair with no movement.” (Editor’s note: I laughed out loud in agreement.) S: “Its a toss-up between Kelly Taylor and The Rachel.”

[Diagnosing this tumor] not only saved her vision but also her life. I still have the letter she wrote to me.”
YOU BELIEVE IN THE MERITS OF A HEALTHY DIET AND LIFESTYLE FOR EYE HEALTH. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST FOODS FOR EYES? “Your diet has a large impact on your overall health, including your vision. Staying hydrated

About Face Dr Tanya Futoryan, practicing Board certified Dermatologist and medical director of aesthetic services at Westport Dermatology & Laser center believes in treating the aging face as a whole. Like decorating a room or a house all at once, everything looks better and belongs together. A similar concept applies to the face. For instance, unless you’re in your 20’s or 30’s, making lips look bigger or cheeks fuller won’t necessarily make you look younger. There will still be some untreated parts that will look aged and give away the work that was done on the treated parts. What, then, is the global treatment for the “whole face”? A combination of lasers, injectables, fillers, and tightening devices.
LASERS Lasers treat early signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation. Newer lasers have less downtime because they don’t create a visible wound on the surface
of the skin; they deliver the energy in a fractional manner, allowing the surrounding skin to heal quickly. One gentle laser that remodels dermal collagen and removes unwanted pigment is Clear + Brilliant®. A stronger system called Frax™ by Candela has two deeper penetrating wavelengths to remodel collagen and correct pigment with minimal downtime. Both are excellent for reversing sun damage. Devices called IPL and vascular lasers such as KTP potassium-titanyl-phosphate treat redness, broken capillaries, and rosacea.
INJECTABLES AND FILLERS Rebalance overactive muscle groups with Botox, Xeomin, Jeuveau, or Dysport. All four are FDA cleared neuromodulators but have subtle differences. Starting with upper face and lifting/shaping of the brow, to smoothing and dropping the chin muscle, as well as relaxing an overactive lip to smooth out fine lines and allow more of the pink of the lip to show producing a lip flip.

Before and After: Lip Flip And chin neuromodulator treatment
“It’s always best to use safe and reliable products which have been on the market for at least a year or longer and to have procedures performed by a practitioner with proper training credentialing and expertise” For structural and soft tissue or fat support, we have a number of fillers and stimulatory injectables such as Sculptra and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to help stimulate collagen production over bone and in fat compartments. After such treatments, biomechanical changes occur over time which help form and attach new tissue in place.
TIGHTENING DEVICES Skin with deeper lines, wrinkles, and folds can be treated with skin tightening devices such as Sofwave, a newer Ultrasound-based device with nearly no downtime. Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling devices work well, too, but require

several treatments and multiple passes to cover the treatment area. These technologies work even better in combination. It’s always best to use safe and reliable products which have been on the market for at least a year or longer and to have procedures performed by a practitioner with proper training credentialing and expertise. Dr. Tanya Futoryan has been in practice for over 20 years. She is in practice with Dr. Lauren Levy, a board certified dermatologist, Carrie Wyskiel PA-C, and Rachel Dymond PA-C. WestportDerm.com

Active indoor pursuits take place in the expansive cardio/weight training studio, spinning room, rowing room, yoga/meditation studio, and dance/fitness studios. Spa services are offered in 27 treatment rooms and use natural ingredients, incorporating therapies from Europe and the Far East as well as indigenous elements. Nutrition and lifestyle counseling, health and wellness classes, and fitness training complement the world-class facilities. the three gardens located on the property. And if you want to let loose, an award-winning selection of beers, wines, and spirits are available. A walk on the nature trails finds unique property highlights, such as a custom-designed lotus labyrinth classroom, an archery range, a healing garden, a pollinator garden, hammock groves, an orchard, and the Blackmore Farm-to-Table Garden with five honey-bee hives. Wellness and mindfulness have never been as important as they are now, and your visit will be the perfect time to explore Forest Bathing. Also known as “Shinrin-yoku,” this refers to the practice of spending time in forested areas for the purpose of enhancing health, wellness, and happiness. The Lodge at Woodloch also unveiled a first-of-its-kind Snow Room. Guests walk into a lounge and relaxation area with a pair of custom-heated lounge seating. Past this is a foyer surrounded by the heated sauna and Snow Room which is reminiscent of a snowy forest with benches, trees, a mural, and lighting to enhance relaxation. The concept stems from Sebastian Kneipp, a Bavarian priest from the 1800’s who was a naturopathic pioneer in his time. He taught about the health benefits derived from the alternation between hot and cold. With its fusion of dry snow and cold air, the Snow Room offers a gentle and pleasant cooling effect. Benefits of the alternation of hot and cold include cardiovascular health, fat burning, detox, strengthening immunity, pain relief, revitalization, stress reduction, and more.
