WHERE ART AND TECHNOLOGY CONVERGE

Dr. Tanya Futoryan is a Board-Certified Dermatologist with 20 years of experience in minimally invasive facial aesthetic procedures. She is an expert at using a variety of injectables and technologies to make your face look younger while keeping it natural. She will provide you with the best anti-aging treatment options to suit your personal needs, designed to achieve and maintain healthy and beautiful skin for life. I have had about 10 treatments of botox at various places over the past several years. Some in CA some in CT. This experience was by far the best I have ever had. The placement of the botox was different than I had ever received, but also the most effective for my eyebrow tension… I highly recommend this practice! - Kim

I have been seeing Dr. Futoryan for about two years now, and have been so pleased with my experience at Westport Dermatology. She is professional, has deep experience and knowledge in the field, and is warm and kind …the office is clean and pleasant, the nurses and staff are friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend her and Westport Dermatology … they are the best! - Megan

I am thrilled with the outcome of the treatment I received at the suggestion of Dr Futoryan. I am 75, and, before the treatment, looked it and more. A week after my treatment, I was at the airport waiting to walk thru security when the security employee asked me to remove my shoes. I said, “I’m 75, I don’t need to.” He burst into a big grin and said, “I thought you were much younger, please proceed!” - Diana

I strongly recommend this place. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and the place is immaculate. Tanya and Malcolm are at the top of their field in dermatology and beauty. I went in for eye fillers and the results were as expected if not better ... They really take the time to listen to you and reassure you on the best options for your dermatological needs. The Laser Center will be my long term choice. - George

Who is Your Botox® Buddy? One of the most effective anti-aging treatments today, Botox ® has been safely used for years to decrease the appearance of lines and wrinkles—and to prevent their appearance in the future. Dynamic wrinkles are those caused by excessive movement, like those that develop on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes over time. Selective placement of Botox ® can prevent this muscle movement, thus preventing the lines from even being able to be formed. Consistent use of Botox ® is the best way to prevent lines and wrinkles from even developing. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating and help migraine headaches.

They share this data with schools and human services, to develop strategies and programs to teach peers and parents about mental illness and substance abuse. Says Gail Kelly, PD Board President, “[The programs] contribute to a healthy community. If you don’t have that issue, you’re at least educated enough to identify it and identify it early. While the bulk of PD’s patients are between 21 years old to middle age, 25% of them are adolescents as young as 12 years old. 15.4% of their active patients are from Westport and Weston. PD’s youth surveys are a unique and important part of their work, enabling them to glean data regarding relationships, stress, and substance abuse. Results of an April 2021 survey in Westport Public Schools indicate that 25% of the students in grades 7-12 were using alcohol during the pandemic and one in ten was using marijuana. By senior year, 60% of Westport youths reported currently using alcohol and 25% reported currently using marijuana or vaping (typically both).* “The legalization of adult-use of marijuana in Connecticut has lowered the perception of its harmfulness,” PD Prevention Director Margaret Watt explains. “But it’s extremely dangerous for teen brains - they can lose 6-8 IQ points and are at a high risk for psychotic disorders.” As well, weed has become more potent in the last 20, even 10 years.

MANN CLAN MOM SHARES ALL

WRITE AN ARTICLE ABOUT YOUR LIFE AS A STAGE MOM. Now there’s a tricky task. Before I can even get into the life part, there’s that term — stage mom — to get past. It’s different from say, soccer mom. “Soccer mom” conjures images of a chatty, snack-toting carpool master, heartily cheering for the whole team and sharing umbreland I became friends and eventually launched

a lot of their parents’ attention. Much time is spent on Metro North for auditions a few times a week (pre-Covid), self-taping/editing auditions (at home—pandemic silver lining), and paperwork: accounting, corporate filings, union dues, child permits, resumes. Jobs can mean the family is divided for weeks or months at a time. But they also mean fun family trips: Florida when Jamie was playing Billy Elliot, Los Angeles while he was shooting Country Comfort for Netflix. And then there was the Mann Clan RV Trip. Let me back up and give you the lead up to that story, which gives a pretty clear snapshot of the pace of actor family life. the rejection system and the booking gods said yes to two Manns at once. My husband and I divided and conquered. Jamie (16 then), Talia (10), and I spent that winter in California. Jamie lived his dream on a soundstage and Talia went to a charter school right next door to the “lot” (as in Sunset Bronson Studios’ lot, which makes me feel very “L.A.” when I say it. It’s the Old Warner Brothers lot. The Jazz Singer was shot there in 1927. The Jeffersons was shot there. Donny and Marie. Jeopardy…). I digress, but not really, because this is important: As a kid I would have done anything to be on that stage with Donny and Marie. I understood Jamie’s dream. I was willing to forfeit planning more than 24 hours ahead in life and help him go for it. As a writer, I had the flexibility to do it, and I found it more fun than criss-crossing Westport from 4 to 8 every day driving.

BESIDE THE BRILLIANT BLUE WATERS THAT GIVE TURQUOIS BAY ITS NAME, THE GROUNDS OF THE RITZ-CARLTON, ST. THOMAS RISE DRAMATICALLY FROM THE SANDY BEACH TO THE HIGH RIDGES AND HILLS THE VIRGIN ISLANDS ARE KNOWN FOR. The pristine resort takes advantage of the elevation with guest rooms and restaurants perched high above the swaying palm trees and lush tropical gardens. The overall feel of the resort is that of a pristine private estate with striking views of the sea and neighboring islands. Hurricane Irma devastated the island four years ago and sadly some of the catastrophic damage is still visible around the island. The resort underwent a comprehensive $100M renovation and reopened with several alluring amenities. Updated guest rooms, a redesigned infinity pool, a kid-friendly pool with a waterslide and attractive restaurant options combine to make the resort the perfect Caribbean retreat.

TRAVEL DESTINATION (CONTINUED)

People are ready to start traveling again but the reality of evolving restrictions make pandemic planning complicated. As an overseas US territory, international travel restrictions don’t apply to the USVI. This reduces your chance of being stranded, although being stuck in St. Thomas wouldn’t be too bad. Passports are not required for the island and several major carriers have already added new regular flights. For those looking to travel with a group, the resort offers larger accommodations that can fit up to 8 people. The three bedroom presidential suites come with personal concierge service, a private oceanfront cabana and even daily laundry service. Guests also get access to the Club Lounge on the beach, which includes a private space on the beach and dedicated beverage service. This option is filling up fast with plenty of reservations already on the books for early next year. The resort is great for kids. Not only is there an expansive Infinity pool, but there is also a shallow wading pool for the little ones. Children can play on a cascading waterfall and enjoy the waterslide, careening down twists and turns to crash into the splash pool. If you’ve spent any time at all at a Caribbean resort, odds are good you’ve experienced a catamaran cruise. I’ve been on my fair share, but I have to say my experience on the lovely Lady Lynsey II was the most memorable I’ve ever had. The sunset cruise was breathtaking, with the 60-foot vessel gliding across the waves and the sun setting over the dramatic green islands dotting the horizon. The waters of the resort are some of the most picturesque I’ve ever seen and ideal for scuba and snorkeling. The abundant coral reefs are visible from the shore,

SAVVY + GRACE ELEVATES THE QUINTESSENTIAL PRESENT

Westport Lifestyle | November 2021

Annette Norton, owner of Savvy + Grace.

WELL, THAT WAS SUPER FUN! I just created my own Savvy + Grace (S+G) basket. These bad boys became popular around Easter 2020, and now people are gifting baskets for all sorts of occasions - holidays, thank you, get well, corporate gifts, or simply because. If you haven’t been to S+G, it’s sort of a wonderland, an eclectic amalgamation of everything except cars and pet monkeys. There’s Ugg apparel and shoes, cocktail lollipops, bath bombs, Westport-themed items, jewelry at all price points, kate spade stationery, ’70’s concert tees… stop me when you’ve read enough. No other store in our quaint hamlet boasts a range of items as vast as S+G and, according to the owner Annette Norton, the prices are pretty much unbeatable. I know this is true because I googled everything in my basket when I got home (don’t tell Annette). Also, some of the items I couldn’t even find online. Who’s buying these? Everyone. A man came into the store to make an anniversary basket for his wife. He piled it high with everything he thought she would love - jewelry, scented lotion, funny t-shirt - while a chorus of female onlookers cooed “Awww!!!”

A dog lover received a champagne bottle chew toy, dog leash, dog book and… tea. (More than one proclivity? She has you covered.) Annette wistfully recalled working with a beloved Westport resident this past spring, before she succumbed to cancer. She purchased custom baskets for the nurses who cared for her. Annette explains, “We see their life experiences, sometimes joyous, sometimes upsetting. (Customers) share why they’re giving the gift. It’s a tiny slice of their lives in the basket.” If my basket is a slice of my life, it says I lounge, drink, bathe, and like sparkly jewelry. (To reiterate, it’s a slice, not a definition of our entirety.) I chose a cream loungewear set, shearling slippers, rock t-shirt, plaid flannel top, crystal bracelet, fancy soaps, and a drink-in-a-jar. And a sentimental little tray. Annette pointed to a fabulous cashmere sweater, “I’m surprised you didn’t choose this!” To which I modestly replied, “I do! But haha! I can’t choose everything!” Technically I could, because this was only an exercise in

FOOD & WINE

BOURBON HONEY GLAZED TURKEY INGREDIENTS + 1 turkey + 3 celery stalks + 3 apples + 3 carrots + 12 garlic cloves + 1/2 white onion + 10 thyme sprigs + salt + pepper + bourbon glaze (recipe below)

DIRECTIONS Dry brine turkey with coarse salt (1 teaspoon per pound). Set overnight in fridge. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Slice apples, celery, and carrots. Place 3/4 of them along with 3/4 of the garlic cloves in the bottom of the roasting pan. Place turkey in roasting pan breast side up. Add remaining vegetables and fruit to the turkey cavity. Sprinkle thyme sprigs in the bottom of the roasting pan and in the cavity. Pepper the turkey well. Tuck wing tips underneath body of turkey. Tie legs together with kitchen twine. Pour the honey bourbon glaze over the turkey. Place in the oven and cook for 30 minutes at 425. Then turn oven to 350 degrees. Baste turkey every 20 minutes. Once turkey has reached perfect browning levels, tent with foil, being careful to avoid the skin. The turkey is finished when the internal temperatures from a thick piece reaches 165 (1520 minutes per pound). Remove foil and rest for 30 minutes before carving. Serve bourbon and butter smothered apples and veggies as a side. Glaze + 1 stick butter + 1/2 cup brown sugar + 1/2 cup honey + 1/2 cup bourbon Melt butter in saucepan. Whisk bourbon, honey, and brown sugar until combined. Keep warm to glaze the turkey. 70
