Your STYLE, right here

TO LOOK, THINK, AND FEEL YOUR BEST!

“Dr. Camerota and staff have set the bar in eye care.”

“Latest & greatest diagnostic equipment, friendly people.”

Time to Learn...

Welcome to our "Style" issue... the one issue I am 100% NOT qualified to write in!  I'm a jeans and free t-shirt kinda guy who hasn't bought a pair of shoes in almost a decade.  Luckily for you, my crew of amazing writers and photographers have all the style anyone could want in order to bring this issue to life.  Just goes to show that as the publisher here at Westfield City Lifestyle, I don't need to know much... I just need to surround myself with folks that do!

Within this month's issue, you will see great places to shop, tasty places to eat, and even a few ways to look good on a budget.  From making your hair look amazing, to finding the perfect "fit" for any occasion, there is a lot to learn in here.  (maybe I should take some notes)

Since I do not have a ton to say about style, I do want to take a second to thank all of our fantastic advertising partners.  Without you, Westfield City Lifestyle would not be the publication we all know and love.  Please, folks, take a good look at our ads, and I promise you that you will find SOMETHING that you need... tell them Wade sent you!

I hope you all have an amazing September, and as always thank you for reading!   Cheers,

September 2024

WHERE STYLE IS PERSONAL

BELLA J'S SALON

“MY DEFINITION OF STYLE AND BEAUTY IS WANTING THAT INDIVIDUAL CLIENT, OUR GUEST, TO FEEL THEIR ABSOLUTE BEST.”

What is style? According to Kristin Nunes, owner of Bella J’s Salon in Westfield, style is whatever makes you happy. “My definition of style and beauty is wanting that individual client, our guest, to feel their absolute best,” says Kristin. “I want to see that smile and know they’re comfortable in their skin. Our goal is for every guest who comes into our salon to leave with a smile.”

Bella J’s Salon has been bringing out the best in clients for eight years this month. Kristin emphasizes education and innovation among her staff of five stylists to keep them current on styles and techniques. The Southampton Road shop is a L’Oreal salon, carrying professional products from that line, along with IGK and ColorWow products.

Roughly 80 percent of Bella J’s clients come for color services, with balayage continuing to be a popular color service.

“I would say that the thing that’s really sticking is the baby lights, the balayage, I think it’s here to stay for a while,” says Kristin. As far as haircuts go, Bella J’s does

everything from pixies to long styles, including hair extensions. Clients come from as far away as Hadley and Ludlow to work with the Bella J’s staff.

Family is a focus for Kristin and her team. In fact, the name Bella J’s is an adaptation of the names of Kristin’s two children, daughter Ella and son Justin. “We are very family friendly,” notes Kristin. “Each and every one of our stylists takes care of families.”

Customer relationships are critical to the Bella J’s team, so much so that they held a cut-a-thon last spring to raise funds and awareness for childhood brain cancer. “This was something I did because two clients have lost children to this – it was a cause that hit home with us,” says Kristin.

Kristin is implementing an apprentice program, which brings in assistants to grow with the business. “We like to give the knowledge back to the young stylists,” she notes. “When I was in school, training was intense and gave you a great work ethic – we would like to give that back.” Bella J’s works with students from Monarch School of Cosmetology and CTEC to provide a pathway for career development.

IN STORE FOR FALL

CONSIGNMENT SHOPS OFFER STYLISH BARGAINS

Soul Shine

Looking to upgrade your wardrobe for fall, but don’t want to spend a fortune?  Consider consignment shopping.

Finding unique, one-of-a-kind pieces at consignment shops has become a way to express your individuality and creativity without breaking the bank. It’s also about sustainability and the thrill of getting a piece of clothing or a designer handbag with the tags still on for a fraction of the original price.

While not everything has tags still attached, you’ll find name brand and designer clothing in great shape at two area consignment shops.

DESIGNER CONSIGNOR

This Southwick store has been an area go-to for nearly 10 years, and at 3,000 square feet, is the largest women’s boutique consignment store in western Mass.

Owner Linda Linard Ligsukis has organized the store into zones. As you walk in, you’ll find brands such as Ralph Lauren,

Talbots, Lilly Pulitzer, and Johnny Was.  Love Chico’s? There is a wide selection here. The middle of the store is where you’ll find these brands, among others – Jones New York, AnnTaylor, and Anne Klein.

There are $10 racks in the back of the store. Petites and the coveted tags-still-on pieces each have their own rack. You’ll also find designer handbags, shoes, scarves, and a large selection of jewelry as well as motherof-the-bride gowns and cocktail attire.

On my visit I snagged a pair of barely worn black suede espadrilles by Gentle Souls for $16.

“Consignment is really taking a place in the shopping world,” Linda said.

SOUL SHINE CONSIGNMENT BOUTIQUE

Owner Katie Shea’s motto is “We celebrate the authentic beauty of all women.”  She’s created what she calls a boutique experience in her store, which features merchandise on two levels.

Clothing and accessories are grouped by color, which makes it easy to coordinate outfits or shop for your favorite colors. From jeans and shoes to special occasion dresses and gowns, Soul Shine has something for everyone and for every occasion.

On my visit, I found dresses by Kate Spade and Lilly Pulitzer, Coach and Michael Kors handbags, and Chico’s leggings. All jewelry and scarves are $7. Many items were new with tags on them.

I bought a pair of Chico’s white leggings with lace cut out edges for $12 and a white tank for $6.

“We’re very selective in what we accept,” Katie said, noting that items must show no signs of wear.

Consignment stores offer unique fall styles perfect for those seeking affordable and sustainable fashion. As the temperatures drop, cozy sweaters, plaid flannels, and vintage denim become wardrobe staples. Look for oversized knit sweaters in earthy tones, paired with high-waisted jeans or corduroy pants for a classic, comfortable look. Layering is key in fall fashion, so seek out lightweight jackets like denim or leather for added warmth and style. Don't overlook accessories; scarves, beanies, and statement belts can elevate any outfit. Thrift stores also provide an opportunity to find unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect personal style, making fall fashion both ecofriendly and distinctive. Embrace the fun of secondhand shopping and discover timeless fall essentials.

Our plants are popular, ever-growing propagations and flora that fill hanging macrame and pottery. Snake Plants, Monsteras, Fittonias, oh my! People pick framed prints right from the wall — Anthony Kiedis from Red Hot Chili Peppers painted in a burst of oils, Frank Zappa on the crappa’ right there

Our margaritas are craved after thanks to hand-squeezed sour mix. We also feature gin sours made with real egg white. For dessert, there’s pudding shots in flavors like Butterfinger, Reeses Cheesecake, and White Chocolate Pretzel Flip. CONTINUED >
