Hello! My name is Andrea Bruno. I am mama to six kiddos, 5 boys and 1 girl. I am also the owner of Blended Vintage Marketplace, located in downtown Westfield. I’ve had my “happy place” shop for 5 years now. When I first took over the location, it was a very different establishment than it is today. It went from being a shop with different vendors that sold all kinds of things, to then featur ing local artisans, to what it is today. . .which is an eclectic little boutique full of all the things I love! The shop has been evolving since the beginning, and I’m not sure it’s quite done!! I hope not! The shop has fashion that is a bit different and unique with lots of color and a retro/vintage vibe. The 10th Run Stanley is slated for Oct. 2, 2022 starting at 10 a.m. The event includes a 5k trail run/walk, a 5k K-9 run/walk, a ¾-mile Munchkin Run for the youngest participants and a one-mile non-competitive Stanley Walk. This year, the Stanley Stroll and Wheel Walk are being combined into the Stanley Walk as part of the Run Stanley event. Participants will now walk, run and roll to raise funds for the park! The Wheel Walk has histor ically taken place in spring and is a one-mile, flat surface walk through Stanley Park’s accessible pathways, making it an inclusive event.

On Sunday, September 25th, 2022, The “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” will take place at Holyoke Community College. Registration opens at 8:30 AM and the Walk starts at 10 AM. The Walk is important as it raises money for Alzheimer’s research, provides funds for our MA/NH Chapter so they can continue to be a resource, and allows the 24 hour crisis hotline to stay in operation. In simple terms, dementia is a collection of symptoms that affect memory (mostly short-term), behaviors, language, judgment, thought process, cognition and ability to communicate effectively. Dementia is the umbrella term that has 103 spokes, each representing a different type of dementia. You most often hear about Alzheimer’s Disease because it accounts for 60-70% of all dementia cases. There are so many facets of dementia and no two people exhibit symptoms exactly the same way. As you read this, you may be thinking about family members or yourself and wondering if their/your mem ory issues are more than normal signs of aging. As we get older, we all have the occasional difficulty finding words. Not remembering someone’s name, that you don’t see often, is normal. Misplacing an item, but having the ability to retrace your steps and locating the item, is normal. And how many times do we walk into a room, not remember why, and then walk out and immediately think, “oh yeah, I was getting the book I left on the couch.” Rest assured, these are all normal signs of aging. What isn’t normal is having new problems finding words when speaking or writing. Forgetting things such as appointments, events, or your way around. Stopping in the middle of a conversation because you can’t remember what was just said. Experiencing a hard time making decisions. Showing up to appointments on the wrong date. Withdrawing from social activities because you don’t want people to notice that you are having diffi culty. These are symptoms of Mild Cognitive Impairment, a precursor to a full dementia diagnosis. Today there is no cure, but there are medications that can slow down the progression of the disease. Diet, exercise, genetics, and comorbidities all play a part in the diagnosis. I have an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design and a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Massachusetts, with a concentration in Architectural Studies. I spent many years in corporate interior design, as well as design-related outside sales, before having a family. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I have a fairly elaborate wardrobe...I get such a kick out of telling new clients that half of it is not mine! Ha! So many lovely people have literally donated - or allowed the studio to keep on loan - gorgeous props, gowns, shoes, hats, and more; I never even ask! It’s particularly special to me that so many women have left their beloved items with these exact words EVERY TIME: “I’m leaving this here so another woman can enjoy it. If I need it back for a special occasion, I know where it is.”
I am honored to say this is my very first official publica tion! Incredibly, it coincides with a special creative proj ect I just completed for NVM magazine for their Women’s ‘Empowerment’ issue, which was released in August. I was asked what might be next for me, to which I feel is complicated to answer...inspiration is often unexpected for creatives! I love photographing dancers of all ages, glowing expectant moth ers, children exploring Grandmother’s Garden, women in one of my gowns (with or without one of my six sets of studio wings) in front of a waterfall, spooky Halloween images in the woods, and even just a simple beautifully-lit portrait. As a community club, the Westfield Woman’s Club is committed to honoring one of its own citizens at their annual Garden Tea. This year the Club is proud to announce that their Honoree will be State Senator John Velis. The event will take place Wednesday, September 7th, 1pm, at the Beveridge Pavilion in Stanley Park. The event is an authentic English Tea, featuring live music, tea sandwiches, scones, and magnificent trifles of imaginable flavors, and beverages including teas. has more land trusts than any other state in the US except California? However, CA is 20 times larger than MA. Around 1890, the land trust movement began in MA when The Trustees of Reservations was formed, and they began to assemble parcels of land into a hybrid of public parks. Their parcels today range from mansions owned by notable residents to places with rare geological fea tures. Almost 200 such places are open to the public, spreading the word on the importance of not only land preservation, but historic preservation, too. One land trust in the area doing innovative work is the East Quabbin Land Trust. It is one of a dozen partners developing the Mass Central Rail Trail. At 100+ miles long, the MCRT is the longest rail trail in the Northeast. EQLT has bought about five miles of the corridor that included three large bridges and they are transforming it into a safe trail for families. They are also aware of the “3rd place” concept and have taken action to preserve that 3rd place in a small community in their service territory. The 1st place in your life is your family. The 2nd place is work. The 3rd place is where you meet people outside of the first two. In the small community of Petersham, the all-import ant 3rd place was the more than 180-year-old Country Store. Badly run-down and in danger of closing, it was purchased by the EQLT. They took on all the deferred maintenance capital projects and then leased the store to a young couple who loves their crucial role in the community. Kudos to the EQLT, and their com mitment to land preservation and an enriched quality of life for their community.

Amber Champagne-Matos is passionate about skin care. An esthetician, licensed in California and Massachusetts, she founded her skin care and self-care business, Champagne Apothecary, in 2019 in Huntington Beach, CA. In February of 2022, she moved the business to Westfield, MA, where she has added to her list of devoted clients.
Amber explains that a lot of anti-aging products are too heavy for younger women dealing with The Midlife Skin Crisis©, and products designed for acne can be too harsh and can contribute to aging of the skin. In formulating the ETHYST® line, Amber found ingredients that don’t damage the skin.

The Bubble Mug Cafe, hidden inside of The Pottery Cellar at the Mill in Westfield, is my favor ite lunch spot. I stumbled upon this gem and the menu sounded delicious. I tried the Roast Beef & Gorgonzola Panini: roast beef, swiss cheese (I substituted for cheddar), caramelized onions, swirl of garlic aioli and gorgonzola, served on beautiful Polish pottery. I loved every bite!
