winter fun in westfield and southwick MAKING MEMORIES WITH THE FAMILY

I

T’S WINTER AND THE HOLIDAY SEASON IS UPON US! It’s easy to get caught up with obligations and shopping, but

if you’re anything like me, spending time with family is a priority! We thought it would be helpful to crowdsource the local community and brainstorm a day of fun for the whole family! All you have to do is get the calendar out, and pencil in the memories!

location #1 LOCAL SLEDDING SPOTS Once that first snow fall arrives, what’s your favorite outdoor activity? Sledding was the resounding answer to this question! And when we asked, where is the best place to go in Westfield and Southwick? The favorite spots to visit locally are the hill at Westfield Technical Academy, East Mountain Country Club, and the hill in front of Southwick High School. Runnerups to this question were building a snow-man with the grandchildren, snowshoeing in Stanley Park, ice-skating, and sitting by the campfire!

Westfield Lifestyle | December 2020

DAILY GRIND IN SOUTHWICK Once you hit up your favorite hill, you’re bound to want to warm up! We suggest you visit the Daily Grind in Southwick, to sit by their fire, and

l o c at i o n #2

grab lunch and a cup of coffee/cocoa. The cafe´ on the campus of

Christ

Lutheran

Church at 568 College Hwy in Southwick is

open to the public and serves as a community hospitality center. In addition to specialty coffees, the restaurant serves a wide selection of soups, salads, smoothies, specialty sandwiches, and fresh bakery items. They are open Wednesday through Friday from 9am to 3pm, Saturday from 11am to 3pm, and Sunday from 8am to 2pm.

COWARD’S FARM IN SOUTHWICK To round out this fun filled day, swing through Coward’s Farm at 150 College Hwy, Southwick, to cut your own tree! Founded in 1985, John

l o c at i o n #3

and Teresa Coward founded their tobacco and

Christmas

tree

farm. Over the years they have grown, and they now offer a gift

barn, seasonal landscape and holiday decor, and the famous “pick and cut” your own Christmas trees. Take your pick of a Balsam, Frasier Fir, Concolor Fir, or Blue Spruce. To make the process easy for you, the staff will grab your tree and carry it back to the shake & bale station. Or if you’re running short on time, and the kiddos are getting restless, simply grab one of their pre-cut trees instead! Now all that’s left of this fun-filled day is to bring that tree home, throw it in a bucket of water (if Coward’s Farm made a fresh cut), and . . . rest! Tomorrow is soon enough to decorate it! Happy holidays and best wishes to you and yours! CityLifestyle.com/Westfield

EBRATES ONE YEAR, AND GENERAL MANAGER, HEATHER SULLIVAN, COULDN’T BE MORE THRILLED! A western mass native, Heather settled in Westfield many years ago, to raise her four children. As a member of Westfield’s school committee, and her past involvement in the Business Improvement District program, she loves being involved in the community. It was such a pleasure to chat with her to learn more. WHAT IS DELANEY’S MARKET? Delaney’s Market is a retail store that features chef inspired readymade meals that are fresh, and ready to serve with no real effort. We’re a one-stop shop: you can get your appetizers, your salad, your dessert, your beverages, and your meals, all under one roof. We have an eclectic, fantastic, award winning variety of craft beers. We have partnered with local vendors, for example Phyl’s GILTE Bakery Service and Top o’The Hill Maple, to incorporate their offerings and support local business owners as we weather through this pandemic together. We are so thankful to owner Peter Roskothen for believing in and choosing Westfield! WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT DELANEY’S MARKET IN WESTFIELD? I am excited that we’re a new business, we’re doing well, and that people come in and feel so comfortable in the store. It feels like a genuine market. We provide old-fashioned customer service; we are able to describe all of our foods because we taste everything. We stand behind the quality of our food. People are comfortable coming to us, and allowing us to make things right, if they are dissatisfied.

Chef Mike Corduff

WHAT SERVICES DOES DELANEY’S MARKET OFFER? We put together family meal packages, that include salad and popovers. We provide catering services at the store for up to 10 to 15 people. For the holidays, we are going to offer custom build-your-own themed baskets using our various products. HOW DO YOU SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY? We support the military, teachers and first responders with 10% off every day. In September, we did 20% off for all teachers. We are also very involved in community fundraising and charity efforts with gift card donations. Additionally, all food that can’t be frozen is picked up two to three times a week, and we donate it to the soup kitchen. WHY VISIT DELANEY’S MARKET? We serve up read-made meals, delivered fresh daily. There are oven and microwave instructions on the package to simply reheat and eat, whether it is an individual or family meal. As the food remains fresh for 2 to 3 days from the sell-by date, customers can feel comfortable purchasing meals ahead. WHAT IS NEXT FOR DELANEY’S MARKET IN WESTFIELD? My goal is to continue expanding our reach throughout the community, engaging the residents in what we offer. We have people

bullet journaling 101 ARTICLE NICOLETTE MARTIN

PHOTOGRAPHY ESTÉE JANSSENS

Let’s face it—in today’s so-much-to-do-and-so-little-time cultural mindset, it

can be hard to keep track of everything we need to do. Wake up—did you get enough sleep? Brush your teeth. Feed the kids. Feed the dog. Get ready for work. Make your lunch. Those are just six things to think about in the span of 15 minutes after your alarm goes off.

With all of these things to keep track of and our lives moving a mile a minute,

anything we can find to streamline our obligations (and our thoughts) can be a lifesaver! Enter: bullet journaling. It’s equal parts calendar, meal tracker, diary, self care and, well, really anything else that you want to keep tabs on! The “mindfulness practice disguised as a productivity system,” coined by creator Ryder Carroll, can help you master the art of intentional living—any way you want to.
