Ladies Issue

As we move through this beautiful month of May, we’re reminded of the many ways women enrich our lives—bringing strength, warmth, and wisdom into every corner of our world.

This season especially, we honor not only the incredible moms among us, but also the women who have taken on the role of nurturer, guide, and mentor. Whether it’s an aunt, a teacher, a friend, or a neighbor, these women have poured love and care into us in ways that leave lasting impressions.

Mother’s Day gives us the perfect excuse to pause and say thank you—to recognize the many ways these women show up for us, often behind the scenes. Their influence is powerful, their impact unforgettable.

And while we’re celebrating the women in our personal lives, let’s not forget the women strengthening our communities through entrepreneurship and leadership. I love getting to spotlight local, women-owned businesses here in West Fort Worth. These women are innovators, creatives, and leaders who are making waves—and doing it with heart.

If you’re looking for a simple way to show appreciation this month, consider shopping locally and supporting women-led ventures. Better yet, take a moment to reach out—send a quick message, make a call, or share a kind word with a woman who’s made a difference in your life.

Sometimes, the smallest gestures leave the biggest mark.

MCCLYMOND’S

2025 DESIGN TRENDS

Timeless Style with a Modern Twist

Fort Worthians increasingly require interior designs that accommodate classic and modern style elements. Courtney McClymond of McClymond Interiors has made a name for herself among those in the know as a trusted and reliable designer with a knack for blending new and old. After an unconventional career journey, Courtney launched her design firm, bringing her signature style into Fort Worth homes.

“I’ve always had a passion for design, and after years of studying and learning from incredible mentors, I knew it was time to make it my career,” Courtney shares. “I love transforming spaces into something my clients can truly enjoy and call their own.”

Her designs often feature a balanced mix of bold colors, rich textures, and natural materials, incorporating sustainable elements as possible. Keen-eyed clients may pick up on Courtney’s Fort Worth roots from her fabric, furniture, and accessory choices, but rest assured, the customer’s personal tastes and lifestyle requirements always take precedence.

Looking ahead to 2025, Courtney is excited about emerging trends infusing warmth and wellness into interior spaces. Here are five of her top design trends for the upcoming year:

1. LIGHTING AS ART

“Lighting is no longer just functional—it’s a statement,” Courtney says. Layered lighting, which combines ambient, task, and accent lighting, adds dimension and warmth to any room. Think sculptural floor lamps with custom lampshades or bold pendant fixtures that serve as the focal point of a space.

For those seeking unique lighting pieces, she recommends Julie O’Neill’s Alberto Floor Lamp, paired with custom silk shades from local vendors like The Lamp Shoppe in Dallas.

2. BOLD COLORS AND RICH TEXTURES

Warm, earthy tones like cinnamon spice, plum brown, and dusty reds are making a strong comeback. “I’m loving the richness these colors bring to a space,” Courtney says. Incorporate these shades through accent chairs, velvet upholstery, or colorful glass accessories.

Courtney recommends Anthropologie’s Delaney Frederica Velvet Accent Chair as a standout piece that embraces color and texture. Pairing it with Estelle’s colorful glassware or vibrant glass bud vases from Etsy adds a whimsical touch.

3. NATURAL ELEMENTS

“Bringing the outdoors in is key for creating serene spaces,” Courtney explains. Natural materials like wood, stone, and bamboo subtly incorporate warmth and promote sustainability. Her go-to’s are large indoor plants, sustainable fabrics, and handcrafted pieces.

“Even something as simple as a beautifully textured wooden table or stone accent can bring a grounded, natural feel to a room,” she adds.

4. FOCUS ON WELLNESS

Homeowners are increasingly dedicating space for relaxation and self-care. “Wellness rooms are on the rise,”

Courtney notes. From yoga and meditation rooms to luxurious saunas, Fort Worthians look for ultimate comfort between intense workouts, tight after-school schedules, and demanding careers.

Brands like Texas Hot Tub Company offer beautiful traditional and infrared saunas. Those looking for a European touch should check out Tyto custom saunas from Out of the Valley, which have Nordic designs.

5. CUSTOM ART FOR PERSONAL EXPRESSION

“Art is becoming a more personal choice rather than a design afterthought,” says Courtney. “Clients want pieces that reflect their personalities and interests.” Custom art commissions, including abstract oils, geometric watercolors, and contemporary landscapes, are a great way to achieve this, and thankfully, for her clients, Courtney is an accomplished painter on top of her design capabilities.

She often works with clients to create custom paintings tailored to their spaces. “It’s incredibly rewarding to bring a client’s vision to life through art,” she says.

From embracing natural materials to creating wellness sanctuaries, Courtney McClymond’s approach to 2025 interior design is all about thoughtful, personalized spaces. Don’t feel pressured to try every trend at once. Pick one thing that speaks to you and slowly incorporate it, whether that’s layered lighting, bold colors, or custom artwork. The trick is to take your time and enjoy the process.

FROM SUMMER DAYS TO SUMMER NIGHTS

ARTICLE BY HANNAH BARRICKS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MACKA PHOTOGRAPHY

Kristen Barbee is a lifelong lover of Western and bohemian styles. After working in marketing for her family's cattle and horse ranch, she launched her online boutique in 2021, Honey Loves Boho, and this May, she opened her first brick-and-mortar store on Camp Bowie Boulevard. The boutique is full of bold colors, playful textures, and inclusive fashion, with sizes XS to 3X and the newest addition to the brand, a bridal collection. Kristen knows about personal style, and after years of growing her business, she's trained to predict what's next, making her the ultimate guide to Summer 2025's fashion trends.

Let's dive into her expert insights on the hottest summer looks!

CONTINUED >

1. BOLD COLORS AND COASTAL PRINTS

"You'll be seeing a lot of bold colors, coastal prints, and very coquette feminine pieces," Kristen says. "Resort wear is huge this season, so whether you're traveling abroad or just hitting the beach, you'll have so many great options." Think vibrant greens, sunlit yellows, and breezy stripes. These joyful patterns evoke carefree summer vibes, perfect for everything from oceanside vacations to backyard gatherings.

2.

SUMMER'S STANDOUT SHADES

"Sage green, stripes, bows, and coastal prints dominate this season," Kristen notes. "It's all about that resort style." These colors bring a fresh and playful charm to your wardrobe. Whether it's a flowy maxi dress or a statement blouse, incorporating these shades will add instant summer flair.

3. WARDROBE STAPLES FOR ENDLESS STYLING

When it comes to versatile essentials, Kristen recommends:

• Denim Dress: "A denim dress is a summer musthave. Dress it down with sandals or up with heels and statement jewelry."

• Sundress: "It's timeless, breezy, and comfortable— your best friend in the Texas heat."

• Bodysuits: "Perfect for layering, they add sleekness to any look."

• White Denim: "Classic white jeans go with everything and instantly brighten up any outfit."

4. BOHEMIAN STYLE WITH A MODERN TWIST

"Layering a flowy bohemian-style printed dress with a denim vest or lace shirt underneath is a fresh way to elevate your wardrobe," Kristen shares. This playful blend of textures brings a free-spirited charm while the added layer creates visual interest.

5. MUST-HAVE ACCESSORIES

No summer outfit is complete without the right accessories. Kristen's top picks include:

• Charm Necklaces: "These add a personal touch and a bit of whimsy."

• Twilly Scarves: "Wrap one around your neck, wrist, or even your bag for a chic accent."

• Straw or Woven Bags: "Effortlessly stylish and functional for any summer outing."

• Trucker Hats and Clip-On Hat Chains: "A fun and practical choice that adds an edge to your look."

6. WESTERN-INSPIRED WITHOUT GOING FULL COWBOY

"You can take a classic maxi skirt, add a denim vest on top, a pair of cowboy boots, and tie a twilly scarf

around your neck for the perfect understated western look," Kristen suggests. This balanced approach embraces Fort Worth's Western heritage without feeling costume-like.

7. THE RETURN OF SKINNY JEANS

"I love that skinny jeans are starting to return," Kristen says enthusiastically. "As a millennial, that makes my heart so happy!" Whether paired with an oversized top or a tailored blazer, skinny jeans remain a sleek and flattering option.

8. LIGHTWEIGHT LAYERS FOR TEXAS HEAT

"A mesh top can be a staple for layering, either underneath a dress or worn on its own with a cute tank or bodysuit," Kristen advises. It's a breezy option that adds texture without overheating. Plus, the sheer effect brings a hint of allure to your summer wardrobe.

9. DAY-TO-NIGHT STYLE

"Taking a sundress from day to night is simple," Kristen explains. "Slip on some heels, add statement earrings or a necklace, and you're ready for a dressier look." Sundresses are an effortless one-and-done solution for summer plans that stretch from brunch to evening cocktails.

10. MIXING VINTAGE AND MODERN

"Layering vintage pieces with modern accessories or pairing a modern dress with vintage jewelry is a beautiful balance," Kristen suggests. This mix creates a personalized style with depth and character.

11. EMBRACING SUSTAINABLE FASHION

"I love that thrifting is in style," Kristen shares. "Purchasing a quality piece from a brand or boutique, then adding some thrifted accessories is a wonderful way to cut down on fast fashion."

Bonus Summer Essential: "If I had to pick one ultimate summer essential, it would definitely be a sundress," Kristen says. Versatile, flattering, and effortlessly cool, it's the perfect piece to keep you looking and feeling fabulous all season long.

Stay stylish, Fort Worth! Embrace the sunshine, play with bold prints, and dress joyfully – because summer 2025 is all about celebrating your unique style.

THE SOUL OF ELLE CAERBERT

In a sunlit Fort Worth studio, the light mineral scent of oil paints mingles with the indiscernible but pleasant-sounding song lyrics softly playing nearby. Large portraits lean against the wall in every shade and tone. The browns are showstopping, in values so deep and rich that they appear endless, like the soul of the work itself or, maybe, its artist. Elle Caerbert

“Art has always been a part of my life from a young age. I loved it throughout school”

made them all, a lithe woman with clear, cool eyes and brown hair to her mid-back. The beauty’s earthtoned rainbow caught the eye of Academy Awardnominated Fort Worth musician Abraham Alexander.

Elle painted the striking cover of his SEA/SONS album from an old photograph of Alexander and his four brothers. In Elle’s signature style, the boy’s backs are to the viewer. She explains how a subject’s body language becomes more apparent and readable without their eyes or face. In the cover art, the boys are in Greece. They’re entering the water of some sea from some beach. How they move is nostalgic, pushing into the cloudy green water while waves crash into their stomachs. They keep moving forward, raising their arms out of the water for leverage or for other reasons adults have forgotten. Alexander’s picture reminded Elle of that feeling, and her painting brought it back to life, with scent and breath from

that memory all adults share. It’s powerful storytelling and hopefully just the beginning for Elle.

“Art has always been a part of my life from a young age,” she shares. “I loved it throughout school—taking advanced high school art classes, entering competitions, and staying up late to draw.” Yet, like many artists, the transition from passion to profession wasn’t immediate. After years of navigating a traditional career, Elle needed to engage her creative side, painting Alexander and his brothers in 2021 when everything changed.

“That painting was a breakthrough moment for me as an artist,” Elle says. “It helped me recognize my style, the necessity of making time for my art, and my own talent.”

Describing her style as “very stylized,” Elle gravitates toward loose brushstrokes and intentional color choices. One of her boldest decisions remains painting

some portraits with closed eyes. “It adds a softness, making the viewer study the piece more deeply to find the emotion,” she explains. “Eyes hold so much, and by omitting them, I invite the viewer to travel through the painting and read the tone differently.”

Elle recreated the physical feeling of running into the ocean using these techniques, wielding them in varying measure in her other works.

“I want you to feel something when you look at my art,” she says. Whether it’s the nostalgia of a musician’s childhood or the quiet contemplation of a café patron, her paintings evoke a sense of connection and curiosity. “It has to be an exchange—something sparked internally that needs to be released externally.”

Fort Worth plays a substantial part in deepening Elle’s artistic journey and inspiring her style.

“The people and their stories will always be something I want to capture,” she says. Her subjects often include local musicians and familiar faces, like Alexander, Grammy-winner Leon Bridges, and Charley Crockett, to name a few. “The music scene and the lives of musicians have always fascinated me,” she adds. But her influences extend beyond the city’s boundaries, where the European bug that bit many preceding American artists found her. “Traveling has given me so much inspiration, especially café culture in Europe. Every day people have beautiful stories I want to tell.”

Elle paints strangers immersed in conversation or sipping espresso in her newest series. Some subjects are lost in thought or reading the folded pages of books they know well.

“These scenes are universal, and there’s something so grounding about capturing those unguarded moments,” she explains.

Elle knows she’s always been an artist, but a working artist keeps close company. The distinction means something to those who have reached the other side. Elle broke through within a few short years thanks to undeniable skill and maintains a balanced artistic practice that is both disciplined and intuitive to avoid burnout.

“I have dedicated painting days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. where I don’t allow myself to do anything else,” she shares. “When I have a brush in my hand, I can’t be looking at my phone, doing housework, or getting sidetracked. I have space to let my mind wander and fully enter the creative process.”

“I want you to feel something when you look at my art. It has to be an exchange— something sparked internally that needs to be released externally.”

While she works primarily with oil paints for their depth and flexibility, Elle’s creative choices remain instinctual.

“I don’t stop. I don’t analyze it,” she laughs. “It’s a wonderfully random process.”

Her future in Fort Worth will include several collaborations, with projects planned at Sol House in Dallas, The Magnolia, and Sundance Square. “Fort Worth always shows up, and it means so much!”

Looking ahead, Elle is eager to complete her café series and pursue new projects that reflect her evolving artistic voice.

Elle’s website (ellejoyannaart.com) includes a catalog of her past works, prints, and commission opportunities for those interested in her pieces. You can also follow her artistic journey on Instagram at @ellejoyanna, where she shares glimpses of her studio life and upcoming projects.

“Never stop creating,” she advises other aspiring artists. “Develop a workflow and push yourself to create daily. It’s easy to fall off when you don’t feel inspired, but having a practice keeps you going.”

“I see another gallery show in the future, travels that will inspire new work, and expanding my reach beyond DFW,” she says. Yet, no matter where her art takes her, the emotional core of her work will remain. “My best work isn’t surface-level; it comes from a place of feeling, connection, and personal experience.”

It’s good advice she knows will work, taken straight from her own playbook. There was a day in 2021 when Elle was one painting away from her big break and didn’t know it. She kept going and honing her craft. Now, there are endless possibilities. So, keep an eye out for the blueeyed artist who hides the gaze of her subjects, inviting viewers to pause, feel, and discover themselves within her art.

THEY’RE READY For Their Close Up

FORT WORTH’S LEADING LADIES IN BUSINESS EXPLORE LIFE THROUGH FILM

ARTICLE BY HANNAH BARRICKS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MACKA PHOTOGRAPHY

Fort Worth’s skyline sits motionless behind the Worthington Renaissance Hotel. Several of the city’s businesswomen and female entrepreneurs meet at the hotel’s rooftop theater for a photo shoot. Adirondack chairs fill the space in neat rows across lime-green turf, a reminder that this is the Rooftop Cinema Club’s territory most nights.

Movies can connect people, help them relax, and inspire them, so their favorites say a lot. Which movies speak to the women gathered at the Worthington? These seven Fort Worth businesswomen share answers that might surprise you.

PRIME LIFE PILATES

WHAT MOVIE TAUGHT YOU AN IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON, AND HOW HAS IT IMPACTED YOU?

“The Bucket List  had a big impact on me. The male leads help each other complete tasks and come to terms with their lives and choices before they die. The underlying message is that life is short, so use your time wisely. I want to travel, travel, travel as much as I can. To see the world and experience new things. It’s also important to mend relationships.”

IF YOUR LIFE STORY WAS A FILM, WHAT GENRE WOULD IT BE, AND WHO WOULD PLAY YOU?

“Definitely a comedy starring Sandra Bullock.”

HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND PERSONAL TIME? ANY FAVORITE FILMS THAT HELP YOU UNWIND?

“I have a good work/life balance. The studio keeps me busy 7 days a week, but I still find time to go out with family and friends. The list is long, but my top 5 movies for unwinding are Tootsie, Bridesmaids, Legally Blonde, Miss Congeniality, and Overboard .”

IF YOU COULD HOST A MOVIE NIGHT FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS OR TEAM, WHAT MOVIE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

“Dirty Dancing, Something’s Gotta Give, or maybe Magic Mike! My members are the best! They come from all walks of life, life stages, ages, and fitness levels, and everyone supports each other. These movies would be enjoyable for all, even the men!”

IS THERE A MOVIE THAT REMINDS YOU OF YOUR FAMILY OR CHILDHOOD AND WHY?

“Childhood movies include E.T., Star Wars , and any of the Brat Pack films. Oh, I can’t leave out Grease. I saw that movie 20 times and had the book and album. I loved these movies for the same reasons everyone else did. They were truly iconic and transported me into their worlds at the click of a button. The cheapest travel mode I know!”

WHAT MOVIE TAUGHT YOU AN IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON, AND HOW HAS IT IMPACTED YOU?

“Dodgeball taught me that persistence and adaptability are key to all success. Early in the movie, a character advises, ‘If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.’ Life will throw wrenches your way. I have had to adapt, work hard, and overcome tough challenges. I’ve surrounded myself with a loving, supportive team, and always remember the 5 D’s of Dodgeball: Dodge (know when to step aside), Duck (it is ok to get out of the way and let situations pass right by), Dip (sometimes you need to change your thinking. Two truths can exist at the same time), Dive (go for it!), and Dodge (keep going even when you get hit).”

IF YOUR LIFE STORY WAS A FILM, WHAT GENRE WOULD IT BE, AND WHO WOULD PLAY YOU?

“It would be a comedy with heart—a mix of humor, adventure, and overcoming challenges. After watching it, I want you to feel inspired and hopeful. I’d want Reese Witherspoon to play me because she embodies confidence, charm, and that perfect balance of sophistication and fun. I think Reese also has the vibe I want my business to have. Luxury and casual fun.”

IF YOU COULD HOST A MOVIE NIGHT FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS OR TEAM, WHAT MOVIE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

“Wine Country reminds me so much of my group of girlfriends. We laugh until we cry, support each other through everything, and occasionally get on each other’s nerves— like true friends will. My favorite scene from the movie is when a character at the wine tasting says, ‘I taste canned peaches.’ It’s such a great reminder that life isn’t about always getting things right but about enjoying the moment, having fun, and making memories with the people who matter most.”

INTENTIONAL ITINERARIES

TRACY vaughn

WHAT’S A MOVIE THAT’S IMPACTED YOUR OUTLOOK ON LIFE?

“Dead Poets Society. The ‘Carpe Diem’ philosophy resonates with me. At Zeeba Salon, I encourage my team to embrace their creativity and confidence, as Robin Williams’s character did with his students.”

WHAT KIND OF MOVIE WOULD YOUR LIFE BE?

“A satirical comedy starring Melissa McCarthy. Unpredictable moments and laughter dominate my day, and my internal commentary would create an entertaining script or an unforgettable narrator.”

WHAT’S YOUR SALON’S IDEAL MOVIE NIGHT FILM?

“Steel Magnolias. The movie is about fierce female friendships, and their brand of strength and humor lives in my salon daily.”

ZEEBA SALON

WHAT MOVIE HAS INFLUENCED YOUR WORK ETHIC?

“Remember the Titans. It’s all about unity and perseverance, which I strive to bring to LMNT Dental daily. The movie showed the importance of hard work, overcoming adversity, and the power of a team. My team and I face challenges in dentistry, but by supporting each other, we create an environment where our patients feel cared for and valued.”

WHO WOULD PLAY YOU IN A BIOPIC?

“Kate Hudson. Life has ups and downs, but laughter and love make every twist worthwhile. Her characters often exude joy, resilience, and a little bit of humor, which is exactly how I approach life and my career. I try to lead with kindness, enjoy the little moments, and not take things too seriously.”

WHAT’S YOUR OFFICE’S PERFECT MOVIE NIGHT PICK ?

“Tooth Fairy, of course! It’s lighthearted and family-friendly, which is perfect for our patients. It adds a fun and playful perspective to dentistry and reminds people that even something like a trip to the dentist can be a positive experience. Plus, it’s a great reminder that even the most unexpected challenges can become moments of growth and joy.”

DAWN king

DAWN KING LAW GROUP

WHAT MOVIE TAUGHT YOU AN IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON, AND HOW HAS IT IMPACTED YOU?

“I know everyone expects me to say Legally Blonde. While I did have a dog named Bruiser, and pink is totally my power color, the movie that most impacted me is A Time to Kill. Matthew McConaughey’s integrity and determination to stand tall and fight for what’s right is something I can feel in my bones. His closing argument gives me chills every time and reminds me to speak up for others who can’t always speak for themselves.”

IF YOUR LIFE STORY WAS A FILM, WHAT GENRE WOULD IT BE, AND WHO WOULD PLAY YOU?

“Definitely a hilarious drama with a lot of surprising plot twists. Think My Cousin Vinny meets Bad Moms. Kate Hudson could be amazing as me. She is relatable and can play a businesswoman in a male-dominated world effortlessly. She also isn’t afraid of a challenge and can say something in a way that makes people laugh and stop dead in their tracks simultaneously.”

HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND PERSONAL TIME?

“A balanced life is an unrealistic expectation that women try to carry around and make things appear easy. The truth is every day is different. You just show up daily and figure out where you’re most needed. Some days, I feel like a rock star, but others, I don’t know whether I’m coming or going. Luckily, I have amazing people standing beside me at work and home that help me successfully maneuver through the good and bad days.”

IF YOUR LIFE STORY WAS A FILM, WHAT GENRE WOULD IT BE, AND WHO WOULD PLAY YOU?

“I am an action/thriller/exciting movie person through and through (not many rom-coms make my movie list). So I’d have to say an action movie! I’m unsure who would play me, but some of my favorite actresses of the moment are Anya TaylorJoy, Florence Pugh, and Amanda Seyfried.”

HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND PERSONAL TIME? ANY FAVORITE FILMS THAT HELP YOU UNWIND?

“This balance is always hard, especially because I have two young girls who are 5 and 1, and my husband works out of town often. I love browsing through new movies and planning one night a week to sit down, shut off my computer, and relax with a glass of wine. Wicked was my most recent choice - it was incredible.”

IS THERE A MOVIE THAT REMINDS YOU OF YOUR FAMILY OR CHILDHOOD AND WHY?

“The Harry Potter movies! My sister and I saw almost every film at the midnight screening. We truly grew up with those movies, so I love having them on in the background during the holidays for a nostalgic, cozy vibe.”

ECM GEMS

WHAT MOVIE TAUGHT YOU AN IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON, AND HOW HAS IT IMPACTED YOU?

“One of my favorite movies, Stick It!, taught me that just because something has always been done a certain way doesn’t mean that it’s the best or only way for it to be done! This movie also taught me that standing up for others and what’s right will always be better than coming in first place.”

IF YOUR LIFE STORY WAS A FILM, WHAT GENRE WOULD IT BE, AND WHO WOULD PLAY YOU?

“If my life were made into a movie, it would be a dramedy (a combination of a drama and a comedy) and I would love to have Margot Robbie play me! My life has definitely had some hilarious moments, but it has also had some deep moments that have shaped me as a person.”

HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND PERSONAL TIME? ANY FAVORITE FILMS THAT HELP YOU UNWIND?

“I balance my work and personal life by scheduling weekly social and family activities. I have lunch with my dad every Wednesday and exercise every Monday with my mom. I hang with my Mahjong girls and my golfing crew, too. Getting out with people I love is the best way to leave the inherent stresses of running my own business behind. One of my go-to movies if I need to decompress is  Miss Congeniality. Girl power and a few good belly laughs can remedy any stressful day!”

IF YOU COULD HOST A MOVIE NIGHT FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS OR TEAM, WHAT MOVIE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

“We would watch Ocean’s 8. There are some gorgeous pieces of jewelry in that movie, and the cast is full of boss babes. Who wouldn’t want to watch an action movie filled with powerful women after a $150 million diamond necklace?”

Get to Know the Winner of our Women in Business Contest

Regarding style for little ones, Fort Worth families know Collins + Conley is the place to go. The local small business received overwhelming support during West Fort Worth Lifestyle's community-driven Instagram competition, securing the nomination for Fort Worth's favorite small business by a majority of online votes. In the heart of Clearfork, three women founded this charming children's boutique: Ashley Watten, Sarah Leafgren, and Denise Leafgren. Under their watch, the store grew into something more: a passionate community of families who appreciate beautifully crafted children's fashion.

"Our story goes way back to 2009 when Ashley and I met working at Pine Cove Camps during our college years," Sarah shares. "We formed such a sweet friendship back then, never imagining that Sarah would marry Ashley's brother, Kyle, years later, and we'd become sisters-in-law!"

The duo's bond only grew stronger as they navigated their respective journeys into motherhood. Inspired by their firstborn daughters, Collins and Conley, they dreamed

of creating a boutique that catered to other moms seeking stylish and comfortable clothing for their children. Their shared vision took flight in 2019 with the enthusiastic support of Ashley's mom, Denise Leafgren.

"Collins + Conley officially launched in the summer of 2019, right after we both had our first daughters," Ashley says. "Our roads to motherhood were not without struggle, and we'd been dreaming of the day to shop for our babies. When that time came, we struggled to find everything we wanted in one place. That's when we knew we had to create it ourselves."

The online boutique quickly gained momentum. Then, in early 2021, an opportunity to host a short-term pop-up at The Shops at Clearfork presented itself.

"The moment we got to interact with our customers face-to-face, we knew this was where we needed to be," says Sarah. "That pop-up eventually led to our permanent space at Clearfork that we now call home."

Collins + Conley stands apart for its carefully curated collection of children's apparel and its welcoming atmosphere. The boutique blends traditional and modern styles, offering timeless pieces alongside whimsical designs.

"Our toy table keeps little ones entertained while parents shop," Ashley notes. "And we want every mom to know she's always welcome here, just as she is."

Their commitment to fostering connections extends beyond their doors. The boutique regularly collaborates with other local women-owned businesses, celebrating the creativity and entrepreneurship within Fort Worth.

"We absolutely love working with other small businesses, whether hosting pop-ups in our store or carrying brands created by amazing Fort

Worth women," Sarah shares. "It's a joy to support and celebrate each other’s successes."

Gratitude shines through Ashley and Sarah as they reflect on their recent outpouring of community approval.

"There's nowhere like Fort Worth," Ashley says. "The support and love from this community has truly been unmatched. It's hard to express how thankful we are."

Sarah echoes this sentiment, adding, "This recognition means the world to us. More than anything else, we love that our daughters get a front-row seat to what lots of hard work and big dreams can build."

The future is bright for Collins + Conley. In addition to releasing vibrant spring and summer collections, the boutique recently launched its own clothing line, Hollis Baker.

"Hollis Baker is all about offering unique, high-quality pieces for special occasions and everyday wear," Ashley shares. "We're beyond proud of this new chapter."

For those seeking playful, stylish, and thoughtfully curated children's fashion, a visit to Collins + Conley at Clearfork is a must.

"When you shop small with us, you're not just supporting a business," Ashley says warmly. "You're supporting our family, our dream, and a whole community of small brands we love."

Fort Worth has spoken, and it's clear that Collins + Conley has earned its place as a cherished part of the city's growing landscape. Here's to celebrating women in business, the power of community, and the joy of dressing little ones with love.

NEW CAFE BRINGS LOVE AND LATTES to fort worth

GO FOR THE LA LA LATTE, STAY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

ARTICLE BY GABBY CULLEN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LA LA LAND KIND CAFÉ

What started as one man’s vision to spread small acts of kindness—buying bikes, donating money—evolved into the bigger dream of what the CEO and founder Francois Reihani calls “embracing the ‘teach a man to fish’ philosophy,’” became something entirely different when the first La La Kind Cafe opened on Bell Ave. in Dallas, TX in 2019. It was an instant hit; when you take your first step into its newest location, you’ll instantly understand why.

The vibe inside La La Land Kind cafe is all about happiness and cheer. “From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by a fresh, bright atmosphere designed to uplift and inspire. The space is filled with natural light, warm smiles from our kind team, and an energy that’s welcoming and contagious. Every detail—from the sunny aesthetic to the thoughtfully crafted drinks—is meant to create an environment that feels as good as it looks,” says TKTK.

The cafe staff is a huge part of the vibe and a big part of the success! While offering great coffee and small plates is a huge bonus, the cafe and the non-profit’s core mission is to provide foster youth with steady employment while promoting and normalizing kindness—a message that the community and customers believe in with all their hearts.

They have seasonal interns, and many choose to stay on permanently. Even better, through the non-profit foundation rebranded as La La Land Kind Foundation, these interns gain access to valuable resources and partnerships that provide career guidance, social capital, and job placement services in their chosen fields. The relationships they make while working at the cafe don’t end after they complete the program and move on to other professional endeavors. “Our interns will always remain part of the La La family—a place they can always call home,” says TKTK

So, what can you enjoy when visiting a La La Land Kind Cafe?

Besides the original coffees that became an instant hit, Reihani, the mind behind the menu, has collaborated with the R&D team to develop innovative new offerings like the viral cucumber salad and the matcha strawberries & cream. Other menu items include hibiscus iced tea, french toast latte, and matcha strawberries & cream to truffle burrata toast, and the fan-favorite classic avocado toast, which comes topped with a touch of lemon and chili flakes.

extensive selection of house-made syrups, meticulously prepared in-house—right down to infusing lavender flowers with cane sugar in the kitchen. Each syrup is thoughtfully  designed to complement the authentic flavors of matcha and espresso, enhancing rather  than overpowering them,” says TKTK

“La La Land is also the only café in DFW that crafts the most extensive selection of housemade syrups.”

What’s next for La La Land Kind Foundation and cafes? There are currently 20 cafes in Texas and California, and the founder and board members are adamant that while they’re exploring new markets, staying dedicated to the original mission is most important. “The La La Land Foundation remains committed to building strong relationships with local communities, ensuring that wherever we go, we create meaningful opportunities to support youth and those in need,” says TKTK.

And the syrups alone are worth a visit. “La La Land is also the only café in DFW that crafts the most

The latest La La Land Cafe opened in the Camp Bowie District in Fort Worth this past February, and for anyone who appreciates organic espresso, fair-trade teas, ceremonial grade premium matcha, and the popular La La Latte, made with Madasgar bean syrup topped with the cafe’s signature classic cloud, it’s a must-visit. At MRC Stevenson Oaks, our philosophy is that no matter how old we are or what challenges we live with, life is about continuing to grow. We fight back on thieves like loneliness, helplessness and boredom. We resolve to make every day one that confirms the seven domains of well-being through identity, growth, autonomy, security, connectedness, meaning and joy.

“Stevenson Oaks means so much to me because when I was very sick they rallied around me like a bee rallies around honey. I cannot believe how uplifted–how loved–I felt. I know the people were genuinely concerned about me. Here, life at Stevenson Oaks is absolutely wonderful.”

From Stem To Vase:

TRANSFORMING FLORALS INTO ART

Flowers have a rich history of symbolic meanings. As far back as the 19th century, they were used to convey secret messages. Stories throughout history recount how flowers were used to send hidden messages between people. French publishers began producing flower dictionaries that cataloged the many floral codes that had been gathered over time. Some of these meanings were linked to the flower’s root name, often derived from mythology, while others were drawn from the flowers themselves. The colors, medicinal properties, and even the

Florals and Fruit

Add a burst of color and texture to your floral arrangement by layering fruit around the edges of your vase. To achieve this, place a smaller vase inside a larger one, ensuring the flowers stay contained in the inner vase. Fill the surrounding space with water, then arrange sliced fruit along the vase’s outer sides. For a fresh touch, add ice cubes to keep the fruit looking vibrant longer and to hold them in place. Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.

superstitions associated with these flowers all contributed to the creation of this secret language.

In addition to their symbolic significance, flowers bring natural beauty to any interior, enhancing spaces with their color, texture, and mood-boosting qualities. Floral arrangements not only create a cozy atmosphere but also infuse a room with personality, elevating the overall ambiance. There are multiple ways to creatively integrate florals into your home, and whether using fresh or artificial flowers, creative displays can make quite the statement piece.

Hanging Florals

For a dramatic effect, try creating a hanging floral display. Floral cones are available for this style, or you can craft your own for a more personalized, organic look. The contrast between long-stemmed white flowers and a dark wall creates a striking visual impact.

No matter how you choose to display them, flowers are a wonderful addition to any room. They boost mood, improve air quality, spark creativity, and bring a decorative charm to any space.

Flower Frogs

Using a frog to display flowers creates a minimalist yet elegant look that highlights the individuality of each bloom. It helps the stems stay in place. To set it up, place the frog on your chosen display base, whether it’s a vase, bowl, platter, or any container you prefer. Then, simply insert the flower stems by gently pressing them into the prongs. Tip: Flowers with sturdy stems and a lighter top work best in a frog, as delicate blooms tend to lose their shape more quickly.
