September is known as the fashion and style issue in the magazine world, and we are thrilled to participate in the trend. Not only are we bringing you fashion that will help keep you on top of the latest styles, but we are also sharing stylish spaces and trendy hot spots around town. Styles are ever-changing, and the fashion world continuously brings us a fresh new take on something from generations past.
In recent years we have seen a resurgence in 90’s stylings. Being a self-pro claimed Limited Too flower child, the dopamine boost I get from seeing the younger generation rocking braided chokers and chunky flip-flops is almost more than I can handle. For me, It’s a rite of passage to watch the styles of our youth become vintage, it can be a beautiful thing watching someone rediscover what you once loved. The way your children unearth toys from your childhood or rediscover a favorite movie from your past, it’s special seeing it spark love for the first time in someone else’s eyes. Inevitably we all become the keepers of our history and, therefore, responsible for how it is reintroduced and digested. However, unlike almost anything else, a period’s style is a very specific time capsule that we must mindfully curate. So, as a 90’s elder, by all means, enjoy the bell bottoms and butterfly clips, but be aware that we are all still trying to grow our eyebrows back; it’s not all Lisa Frank and rainbows out there. It seems, however, there is little to be concerned about with this new generation of fashionistas who are impervious to the dreaded “awkward stage.” It might even be that the students have become the teachers, updat ing 90’s style in their own unique ways. I’m reminded of how my mother delighted in seeing her 70’s styles regain popularity, albeit with a modern twist. Indeed as styles regain popularity the newer generations always make it their own; leading to a synthesizing of something new, something maybe we’ve all built together, a generational bridge. As we head into September and all that Fort Worth’s style scene has to offer, I am mindful of the bridge and how style inexplicably unites us, a cyclical but also ever-changing bridge, endlessly brimming with polka dots and (this season) even a bucket hat or two.

For this project, we visited Home Depot to get all the nec essary supplies we needed. The deck is an 8 x 10 decking so there is no need to cut down the length of any boards and pres sure-treated wood was used. First, dig holes 18 inches down to put the footers, which is a 4 x 4 x 8 treated post, and cut those into two-foot lengths. Next, pour quick set concrete in the holes. Add water, and set the posts in and let it dry. We used lag screws to attach the base 2 x 10’s to the corner posts, and then 2 x 6’s for the joists with metal hangers. Now time to put on the decking boards with exterior screws. Don’t forget to constantly check with a level. Once the decking is finished, now it is time for the fun!

This adorable outdoor play space is not only easy and inexpensive to build, but it is full of charm and the perfect spot for the kids to play and lounge. The A-frame structure is easily customizable to any style and color scheme desired. Leave the wood bare, or add flare with paint or stain. An outdoor clubhouse provides a space that allows kids to make it their own and to let their imaginations run wild spending time outdoors.
For the A-frame, you need a 60-degree angle at the top of the A, and a 30-degree angle at the bottom. You can run a 4 x 4 along the decking to attach the A-frame to, which adds a bit of height so adults can stand in it as well. Use heavy-duty exterior screws to attach the A-frame 2 x 4’s to the structure. The top of the A comes together and is held by exterior screws. For the roofing, we used 8-foot corrugated clear panels and screwed those into the A-frame for a weather-protecting cover. We left three feet uncovered so a chair and some pots with herbs and flowers could be added to the entrance. Decorate with outdoor pillows, a children’s table, an outdoor rug and hanging flower pots to make it feel like a special place for kids to go. COOKING WITH FRESH HERBS BOOSTING FLAVOR AND NUTRITION ARTICLE BY ANGELA BROOCKERD PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES INGREDIENTS • 3 tablespoons coconut oil (or olive oil if you prefer) • 3/4 cup popcorn kernels • 5 tablespoons butter, melted • 2 teaspoons garlic salt • 2 teaspoons parsley (dried) • 1 teaspoon thyme PROCESS 1. Add oil to the bottom of a pot and melt over medium heat. 2. Add popcorn kernels and place lid on top of the pot and heat over medium heat until kernels are popped, shaking pan occasionally 3. Melt butter in a separate dish and add season ings. Pour on top, and enjoy! HERBED POPCORN Add a little kick to your traditional popcorn by incorporating herbs in with the butter. INGREDIENTS • 1/2 cup olive oil (or flax oil for added omega 3 nutrition) • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (or lemon juice as an alternative) • 1/2 cup-1 cup fresh parsley, chopped finely • 1/4 cup fresh basil or fresh cilantro • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced DIRECTIONS 1. Chop fresh herbs finely and add to a bowl. Add remaining ingredients and mix. 2. Chill for 1-2 hours. Enjoy! CHIMICHURRI Chimichurri is a condiment that can be used on endless things, and can be enjoyed as a sauce or dip. Serve over fish, chicken, vegeta bles or with crackers. • 1 small red chilies or 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or italian seasonings • 1 teaspoon salt • pepper to taste CULINARY CREATIONS | FOOD + BEVERAGE36
Herb salts are becoming so popular and can add flavor to a variety of dishes. There are endless flavor combinations, and these salts are so handy to have as a staple in the kitchen. Plus, these make great gifts for family and friends. All you need is a blender or food processor and minimal ingredients.

INGREDIENTS • 1 cup salt of your choice (I prefer Himalayan pink salt, but any salt will do • 1/4- 1/2 cup parsley (add more if using fresh herbs) • 2 Tablespoons dried basil (or 1/4 cup • if using fresh) • 1 tablespoon oregano • 1 tablespoon lemon zest • 1 garlic clove minced • Optional: Any additional herbs you prefer PROCESS
1. Add fresh parsley, garlic, lemon zest and a little bit of salt to the blender or food processor. Mix for 10 seconds. Add additional ingredients and blend again..
INGREDIENTS • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature • 4 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped • 1 tablespoon herb of your choice (dill, basil or oregano are my go-to herbs.) • 1 clove garlic, chopped • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice • 1/2 teaspoon salt • cracked pepper to taste Process 1. Add all ingredients in a food processor (or mix by hand in a bowl). 2. Transfer butter mixture on parchment paper or plastic wrap. 3. Cover butter tightly and roll into a log. The Gents Place, headquartered in Dallas, opened to Fort Worth residents in 2021 and has quickly made a name for itself due to the unique experiences offered there. Once you cross the threshold, the concept of The Gents Place becomes all-at-once apparent; with rich, leather seating; dark, mascu line colors and cement floors, this is a male sanctuary. You will most likely be greeted by Stacy or Cathy, both consistent faces at the head of the house. Part of the experience includes two complimentary drinks, all top shelf, which Stacy, or another friendly face at the front, will happily get for you as you are handed a menu of services. The menu is renowned for its diversity and a quick scan reveals why.
On West 7th Street, conveniently located across from the Tom Thumb shopping center, is the Gents Place, a barbershop and grooming bar. Upscale barbershops are gaining traction in recent years as men are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of self-care. So, what should men expect from a grooming bar? The Gent's Place walks us through their glass doors, giving us an exclusive and educational look at the growing market of men's upscale barbershops.
“It definitely pays to be a member because every mem bership feeds a homeless vet,” says Miranda, explaining that a meal is donated by the club to a veteran for each member ship sold, “our members are definitely here because of the culture and because we all share the same values and mind set towards our community.” Since opening, The Gents Place has seen their community grow, mostly servicing Fort Worth businessmen who take advantage of their member’s lounge, some even bring in their clients and treat them to this luxury experience. All-in-all, The Gents Place seems to have secured itself as a staple on west 7th, a welcomed edi tion in a surprisingly growing field. And who doesn't want to support well-groomed humanitarians?

“We offer a variety of men’s grooming, we’re ultra-pre mium so it's not just going to be your average barbershop. It's a clubhouse barbershop meets speak-easy. Our stan dard, entry level cut is a personalized consultation and the cuts level up from there. Our five-course cut includes a face refresher, which is a mini facial, and a neck and shoul der massage. You can go all the way up to a seven-course cut which includes all of the same things as 5 but with a paraffin wax dip for the hands,” explains Jazmin Miranda, marketing manager for The Gents Place. The paraffin wax is part of the club's “hand repair” service which is their masculine take on the manicure and a separate room in the back serves as the pedicure room or “foot repair” area. It is the small details that are thoughtfully curated at The Gents Place that make men’s grooming and self-care more accessible for those who have never experienced paraffin wax and may be a bit wary of it.
