Four-legged family member.

his year we had a new addition to our family. Our brandnew bundle of joy kept us up many sleepless nights, but she stole our hearts immediately. She walks on four legs and is covered in fur, but that doesn’t make her less important as a bona fide member of our family. Pet owners LOVE our pets! We treat them like our family because they are our family. If you ask either of my sons who their favorite sibling is, they will both happily declare that it’s Sandy–our loveable puppy. We are excited to bring you the first “Pets” edition of West Chester & Liberty Lifestyle, packed full of pet-friendly stories. We asked readers to submit pet photos for one of our feature stories. The response was overwhelming, showing just how much our readers love their pets. Thank you to everyone who submitted photos of their pets–we wish we could include them all! The 15 dogs selected were all treated to a professional photo shoot by PhoDOGrapher, Carolyn Evans. If you’re thinking of getting a first pet or adding another to your home, you won’t want to miss Cincinnati’s premier pet adoption event, My Furry Valentine. Read more about this opportunity to give a loving home to a rescue pet in this month’s Giving Back story. It’s important to choose a veterinarian who will give your pet the love and care they deserve, while providing beneficial information and being accessible to the owners. Inside we meet Dr. Jennifer Dehnbostel, the veterinarian who I personally entrust with my sweet Sandy. Dr. Dehnbostel and the team at Animal Hospital of West Chester also provide important tips on common foods and household items that are hazardous to your pets. Inside this issue, we also explore West Chester’s new Goldfish Swim School–with a clever pet-themed name, they’re providing children with a festive and safe environment to learn how to swim. If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, consider a romantic staycation package at the Hilton Garden Inn. They recently hosted the one-year anniversary party for West Chester & Liberty Lifestyle. They have amazing food, a great banquet facility, attentive staff and beautifully modern hotel amenities. Curl up with your favorite four-legged friend and enjoy this special “Pets” edition of West Chester & Liberty Lifestyle.

Groundbreaking for Holtman’s Donuts

NEW DEVELOPMENTS AT STREETS OF WEST CHESTER Northern Cincinnati’s premier “eatertainment” district at the Streets of West Chester recently broke ground for several new restaurants and stores near Topgolf and Main Event. Chuy’s Tex-Mex restaurant was the first tenant to commit to the new project. Chuy’s will build a freestanding restaurant which will mark its fourth location in the region. Two additional restaurants adding more flavor to the new development include Matt the Miller’s Tavern and Holtman’s Donuts. New-tomarket Matt the Miller’s Tavern is an upscale casual restaurant featuring a chef-driven menu and constantly rotating inventory of craft, draft and local beer. Next to Matt the Miller’s Tavern will be Holtman’s

f you don’t own a pet goldfish, at least your kids can swim like one. Goldfish Swim School is open in West Chester and this impressive

local business is going swimmingly. Goldfish Swim School Owners Mandy and Joe Yackey jumped into our community with both feet to meet their goal–to be the best at what they do. Providing year-round swim lessons for children ages four months through 12 years, the school is built upon a strong foundation of love for children, a passion for swim safety and gold-standard customer service. Local member Stacey Johnson brings her four-year-old daughter to Goldfish Swim School for lessons. She says, “Goldfish is a great asset to our community. It’s important for our kids to learn water safety, and great that they actually enjoy it.” Laurie Jahnke of Liberty Township enrolled her two young children for swim lessons. “We’ve learned more in the last three months than a year in another program,” Jahnke says. Johnson adds, “One of the things that really turned me on to Goldfish is that they offer smaller classes. [My daughter] has become an independent swimmer in just four months time.” Goldfish Swim School sets up a flexible class schedule, designed to fit into the busy lives of families with young children. Lessons are

easily shifted to different days and times as your family schedule changes. Make-up lessons are offered if your swimmer has to miss. Your child’s progress stays on track, and you get your money’s worth. Goldfish Swim School anticipates every need. Their onsite Treasure Island Pro Shop is stocked with everything swimmers need for a lesson–or might accidentally leave behind at home. The parent-pleasing menu at the Snack Shack snack bar keeps energy high. Even hair-drying stations are available to allow parents to dry wet heads before leaving the building for the winter air outside. On a chilly February day, stepping into Goldfish Swim School is like taking a tropical vacation. Decorated with bright colors and thatched umbrellas, the school is an island retreat. The 90-degree pool isn’t the only source of warmth at Goldfish Swim School–the staff is warm and friendly, too. Johnson shares, “Everybody who works there is so welcoming. They know my daughter by name. They know me by name. They are so kind.” Goldfish’s trained swim teachers celebrate students’ achievements, small and large. A rainbow of ribbons goes home with students when they pass swimming benchmarks. Balloons and prizes motivate kids to sharpen their water skills. “The teachers are really good, highly qualified and very kid-friendly.
