County Commissioner Michelle Kichline, who is leading the county’s America250 semiquincentennial commemoration, says, “The [comprehen sive] plan will give us clearer direction for the 250th celebration, and it will also encourage ongoing investment into the maintenance and preservation of historic entities, creating community pride in the unique history and identity of Chester County.”  Officials estimate it will take about 18 months to complete this plan. We look forward to the helpful attention it should bring to our community.

Delaware Valley Regional Finance Authority representatives are provid ing the funding as part of the County’s VISTA2025 economic development strategy, a public-private partnership. “Our Chester County Planning Commission is partnering with the Chester County History Center, the Heritage Task Force, Chester County Conference and Visitors Bureau, and America250PA Chester County Commission to increase capacity and mar keting of visitor sites,” notes County Commissioner Josh Maxwell.

Chester County Commissioners approved a $156,000 contract with Luzerne County-based Heritage Strategies LLC to bolster historic tourism in the county. Heritage Strategies is a collaboration of three, long-time colleagues whose specialties encompass the fields of planning, landscape architecture and architecture -- all focused on historic preservation and heritage development.  County Commissioners’ Chair Marian Moskowitz says the local historic tourism sector of the economy was damaged by the pandemic. “The [new] plan calls for rebuilding lost tourism, especially as we lead up to, and prepare for, Chester County’s celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.”

The multi-faceted effort is reportedly to include an improved interpre tation of existing historic sites and cultural resources; creation of new information centers to tell the county’s full story; better defined routing to increase connectivity to these resources; and marketing strategies to target audiences that increase the number of visitors.

“One of stone’s biggest advantages is that it can be used for both modern and traditional design,” says Vincent Esposito, a third-generation stonemason. “Whether you’re looking for a contemporary look or a classic style, you can find the look you love in natural stone.”

“There are so many product options available for homeown ers today, it helps to see them in person,” says Chris DiSabatino, founder of the company. “Our showroom helps clients compare colors and materials, view different materials and discover new product lines to make the best choices for each project.”

The ceiling of the outdoor show pavilion displays a range of wood stains, colors and styles. A wood pallet wall with a large TV and a large conference area allows visitors to relax while deciding on the right look for their home renovation. In the outdoor living space, a large sampling of Azek and TimberTech composite decking and trim are laid out to show the myriad of options from which to choose.

LIGHTING

NATURAL STONE

Hanging pendants, an oversized chandelier and LED path way lights help visitors decide on the right lighting for their property. All of the lighting options on display are durable, weather-resistant options.

DiSabatino Landscaping specialists always are on the lookout for the newest products and latest trends in outdoor living spaces.

DECK RAILING OPTIONS

Esposito Masonry teams created stone walls to anchor the pavil ion, as well as building the natural stone outdoor kitchen and the centerpiece of the display, a two-story indoor and outdoor fireplace.

Their team of more than 65 landscape and design professionals, stonemasons and installers recently collaborated to relaunch their outdoor showroom, which showcases the wide range of projects the DiSabatino team offers clients. It includes an indoor/ outdoor fireplace, two outdoor kitchen displays, multiple deck ing styles and colors, various railings, ceiling types, as well as interior wall design options.

WOOD STYLES/COLORS

OUTDOOR KITCHEN

From a sleek countertop seating area to a full grilling station with refrigeration, DiSabatino’s display kitchen offers plenty of options for outdoor living projects. The indoor/outdoor fireplace and mounted television lead to an office with built-in shelving and a conference area, which can be adapted for a multitude of uses.

The deck and patio area of the pavilion are accentuated by differ ent railing styles ranging from vinyl to cable. Over the past few years, homeowners are increasingly turning from traditional wood to wrought iron, Chippendale and cable railings to differentiate their homes. These railings often weather the elements better than wood.

The pavilion enables clients to view the following design choices:

Revitalizing plastic surgery combines art, science, knowledge and kindness, while restoring self-esteem. From reconstructive surgery procedures to non-surgical services, the experienced doctors and medical team at Legacy Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics in Exton vow to provide safe patient care that bolsters an individ ual’s ideal look and well-being. Dr. Wingate says he was privileged to go on mission trips with his father (Dr. Gary) during high school and college. “We were lucky to help a lot of families and children on those trips, and that was life-altering for me, because it eventually drove me down the road of a surgery career,” he recalls.

“Our goal, whether here or abroad, is to help every patient be confident and happy with the way they present themselves,” says Dr. Nicholas Wingate, who joined the center in 2021. “We understand it’s not just a physical issue, it’s also an emotional matter.”

Dr. Wingate says the entire Legacy team employs innovative technology before, during and after operations or procedures. “For example, fat graft ing uses one's own body fat as the most natural fill ing material for certain reconstructive solutions, such as for breast cancer survivors,” he says.

He says the Legacy team has medical abilities not necessarily offered in some parts of the world, so they help people with body defect challenges due to birth disorders, traumas, burns and diseases, such as cleft palates and ear reconstructions.

By custom-tailoring his approach to each indi vidual, he says he can apply the most advanced treatments available.

Founded by well-rounded plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Kim in 1985, and joined by Dr. Gary Wingate in 1990, the Legacy Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics team offers an array of world-class aesthetic med ical services. Providing what’s referenced as some of the most advanced surgeries and non-surgical aesthetic procedures in the Main Line region, their medical care spans facelifts, body contour ing, mastopexy/lifts, hair replacement and recon structive surgery, as well as filler treatments.

“These surgeries are life-changing for us, as well, in that they’re very fulfilling endeavors that we’re happy to be part of. Helping people is a really important part of our practice,” he adds. “My top priority is for my patients to have outstanding experiences, and every patient is unique. I give them my undivided attention, both in consulta tion and throughout the operating process."

“When you come to Legacy, you’re not just coming to a doctors’ office. You’re not just coming to a spa. You’re coming for a whole, exceptional experience.

The best part of my job is the unveiling after surger ies or procedures. To see the joy that results bring patients, and to witness their confidence returning inspires me every day,” he assures. The practice includes certified registered nurse practitioner, Karyn Kim, and serves patients from throughout Chester County, including West Philadelphia and Main Line communities. Due to the excellence of the practice, it's become a national training center for other surgeons who are interested in learning and training in new cutting-edge technol ogy and new procedures.  Shelia Miles, a Legacy client, says they helped make her life the best it can be, all while providing emo tional comfort as well. BACK STAGE | ARTS + CULTURE Onstage Uptown! ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED FROM UPTOWN! KNAUER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER West Chester Performing Arts Group Gets First-Ever Artistic Director, And She's A Townie 30

"This transformational addition to the leadership of Uptown is allowing the organization to debut its first fully produced theatre season," says April Evans, Uptown! executive director and lifelong resident of West"WeChester.aspire to expand," agrees Carmen. "We want our audience to leave every performance feeling the world is a little bigger place than when they came in; to expand the theatre's reach and relevance and influence in the community; to expand West Chester's sense of what is possible; what kind of a town we can be." She says she envisions Uptown! as a vibrant arts institution and a hub of community and culture for the region. Expanding the group's music, dance, com edy and film programming is the mission.

Carmen was the founder and artistic/execu tive director of the award-winning Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre. Since that launch in 1996, she's directed/produced 60-plus productions of Shakespeare’s works.  Why her devotion to Shakespeare? "It starts with my personal story," she explains.   "It is not an exaggeration to say that Shakespeare saved my life. My childhood home was a daily chaos of alcoholic violence, in a run-down, working-class, frightening neighborhood of north London. Nobody cared what I thought, and nobody expected anything of me. But one day, my English teacher came into class and began reciting, 'Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow…' I felt that I was awakened from a deep, dreamless sleep. There emerged within me the pal pable idea that life could be more than just survival — that it could be a vigorous, imaginative and emotional journey. It changed my path forever. It saved my life. It opened a door to a whole world of possibilities. And I walked through that door. Since then, I have devoted my life to sharing that experience with others."

Drama is developed and molded by roles, characters, relationships, situations, voices, movements, space, time, language, scripts, symbols, metaphors, moods, atmospheres, audiences and tension. Director/ Producer Carmen Khan seems to embrace and enjoy applying all of these elements in her creative work. So much so, she recently became the first-ever artis tic director for West Chester-based Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center at 226 N. High St. A local community bonus is that this professional actor, director, producer and voice-over actor has lived in West Chester for 32 years and raised her family there.

610.356.ARTS UptownWestChester.org(2787)

Carmen also co-founded The Laughing Stock Theatre, an all comedy theatre in Philadelphia. Additionally, she was artistic director of the Red Heel Theatre, which was devoted to little known classics of the Jacobean age. She has performed in more than 40 theatrical pro ductions. She holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of London, England, and a mas ter's degree of fine arts in acting from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.  She espouses how beautiful West Chester is. "The streets and the trees, we're surrounded by nature, but it's also a bustling town with a big university, so you always feel connected to the stream of life, yet you can also find profound silence and peace. West Chester is also a very friendly place."

Resilio is a Latin verb that translates to rebounding, starting over or springing back. The pure essence of that term made it a perfect name for Resilio Mental Health Solutions, a Downington-based private practice whose staff provides supportive psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluations, medication management and education regarding mental health.

"Our dragonfly logo also symbolizes the incredible power that each one of us has to overcome adversity," says Dr. Daisy Lara. "We aim to promote mental health intelligence and resilience in a safe and supportive environment."
