Gentlemen's Issue

As we move into June, it’s worth taking a moment to recognize the role fathers play in shaping their homes and families. Their impact is steady and often seen in the everyday moments that build trust, character, and connection over time.

When I think about the influence of a father, it’s rarely about a single milestone. It’s the consistency. The conversations. The time set aside, even when life is busy. Those moments add up, and they leave a lasting impression.

A father’s presence shows up in ways that matter:

• Strength that creates stability

• Words that offer direction

• Time that builds connection

• Encouragement that builds confidence

• Guidance that shapes decisions

• Accountability that builds character

This month, as we recognize Father’s Day, it’s a chance to acknowledge the men who continue to show up for their families and their communities.

If someone has played that role in your life, take a moment to reach out. If you’re in that role today, your presence matters more than you may realize.

GUIDING INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND BUSINESS OWNERS IN MAKING INFORMED FINANCIAL DECISIONS.

Guy Weinhold Neil Kay

AAMS® Financial Advisor | Edward Jones Founder,

My team and I help a select group of families, working professionals, people in the technology field, and small business owners build clarity and confidence around their financial lives. Many of our clients work in fast moving, high growth environments, so we focus on simplifying complexity and creating financial systems that adjust as life evolves.

To us, clients are family and that means understanding the full story behind their goals, values, and priorities.

We take a deep, discovery-driven approach, learning not just what clients want to achieve, but why. Using that insight, we build customized, holistic financial strategies designed to adapt as new variables emerge, whether from career changes, the market, or shifts in personal priorities. I think of it as an evolving financial architecture, continuously optimized and aligned with what matters most.

With more than 30 years of experience as a financial advisor, I bring a seasoned perspective that helps clients feel informed, supported, and confident in their decisions. I am a Certified Financial Planner® professional and hold the Accredited Asset Management Specialist™ designation.

I work alongside a dedicated team, including Stormy Burns, MBA, Associate Financial Advisor, Suzanne Naccarato, FPQP® and Savannah Woodall on our Client Support Team. Together, we remain committed to continuous learning, staying ahead of industry changes, and being a reliable resource for those we serve.

Regular engagement is one of the strongest predictors of long-term success. I remain available to my clients and to those considering a new partnership.

Old Vine Capital

I founded Old Vine Capital to bring institutional-quality investing directly to individuals, families, and entrepreneurs—without the product bias, layers, or constraints that often come with traditional firms. The objective is straightforward: remove conflicts of interest, serve as a fiduciary, and apply the same level of rigor, access, and portfolio construction typically reserved for large institutions in a more focused, client-aligned way.

Before launching Old Vine Capital, I spent 15 years in institutional asset management, where I helped raise and oversee more than $6.5 billion in client assets across platforms including BlackRock/ iShares, John Hancock Investments, and Hartford Funds. My work centered on partnering with financial advisors, private banks, and institutional platforms to design and implement lower-cost, tax-efficient, and risk-managed portfolio strategies.

At Old Vine Capital, we work with $2M+ portfolios, building globally diversified allocations using individual securities and tax-aware strategies, including custom indexing and tax-loss harvesting, options-based income and downside protection, and long/short equity techniques to manage concentrated positions and capital gains. We also provide access to private investments typically reserved for institutional investors, including venture capital, private equity, and AI infrastructure.

Client assets are held at Charles Schwab, an independent third-party custodian, providing transparency and alignment. We work with a limited number of families to stay deeply engaged and focused on long-term outcomes. I earned my BBA from the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business and am currently an MBA candidate, serving as President of the McCombs Graduate Business Council, bringing an educational perspective into my work each day.

Managing Director - Investments | PIM Portfolio Manager | Institutional Plan Fiduciary Consultant

Now in my 26th year in the financial services industry, my approach is built on discipline, planning, and a commitment to the clients we serve. I hold the Accredited Investment Fiduciary designation, along with FINRA Series 7 and 66 securities registrations and a General Lines Insurance License.

After graduating from New Mexico State University College of Engineering, my career began with the Department of Defense, including work on the Patriot Missile system during the Gulf War. During this time, I was named Distinguished Graduate at Patriot Defense Officer training.

Following that, I transitioned into selling businesses and investment real estate, working closely with business owners and gaining valuable insight into their financial priorities and decision-making. That path ultimately led me into financial services.

Since entering the industry in 1998, beginning with Merrill Lynch and later joining Wells Fargo Advisors in 2007, the focus has been on developing a planning and investment process shaped by both analytical thinking and practical experience. Clients remain at the center of that work, with planning serving as the primary tool for guiding decisions.

First Vice President - Investments

I began my career in financial services in 2014 as an Internal Wholesaler with Janus Capital Group. Today, I serve as First Vice President, Investments, where I oversee Corporate Retirement Services for our team and contribute as an investment researcher and portfolio manager.

I hold FINRA Series 7, 63, and 66 securities registrations, along with a General Lines Insurance License.

Originally from Austin, I graduated from Bowie High School before playing center at Abilene Christian University, later earning a degree in Economics from Texas State University.

In our practice, we begin by listening. We take the goals and priorities shared with us and build a cohesive investment plan designed to help clients move from where they are today to where they want to be in the future.

We typically guide clients through three core investment objectives: total return, yield focused, and tax efficient strategies. Once a portfolio is established based on a client’s objectives and risk tolerance, the work continues through ongoing reviews. These conversations help keep portfolios aligned as needs, goals, and market conditions evolve.

My goal is to help clients make informed decisions and build strategies that support long term outcomes.

Scan Early, Live Longer

Longhorn Imaging is helping Austin men take control of their health through full-body MRIs and cutting-edge genetic testing

Many men don’t think about their health until something goes wrong. By then, the window for effective treatment may have already closed. That’s the message David Avery, founder and CEO of Longhorn Imaging, has been delivering to Austin men since 2014 — and a growing number are finally listening.

The stakes are real. According to the American Cancer Society’s Prostate Cancer Statistics, 2025 report, prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis among men in the United States, accounting for 30% of all male cancers. This year, an estimated 313,780 new cases are projected, and late-stage diagnoses are rising as much as 4.8% annually. Yet the National Cancer Institute reports a 5-year survival rate of 100% for localized prostate cancer - compared to just 38% once it has spread. Early detection isn’t just beneficial. It’s often the difference between life and death.

“It’s far easier to recover when something is caught in its earliest stage,” said Avery, who brings 25 years of imaging experience to Longhorn’s 14 Central Texas locations. “Most people don’t realize anything is wrong until they begin to feel unwell — by then, they’re in a reactive state rather than a proactive one.”

Longhorn offers full-body MRI scans, covering head to knee and screening for pre-cancerous conditions, alongside targeted prostate MRIs that take roughly 30 minutes. Both are backed by AI-assisted detection software that flags concerns beyond what the radiologist’s eye alone might catch. Results are returned within 24 to 48 hours in plain-language reports, and full-body scans are followed up by a provider walkthrough.

Avery has experienced the value firsthand. His own scan flagged elevated markers on his prostate and liver. Nothing that was alarming, but enough to drive real lifestyle changes.

“It raises awareness,” he said. “It tells you something needs attention and gives you the opportunity to reset.”

For men who want a fuller picture, Longhorn also offers genetic testing panels that map a patient’s complete profile, identifying deficiencies, inflammatory markers, and predispositions. Optional add-ons address Alzheimer’s and dementia risk, sleep optimization, and dietary compatibility.

“Before all of this, you were just stuck in a bucket,” Avery said. “Now AI can cross-reference all of that data and give you a real, personalized picture of your health.”

“It’s far easier to recover when something is caught in its earliest stage.”
- David Avery

Longhorn keeps access practical with online scheduling, competitive self-pay pricing, payment plans, and complimentary transportation through Uber Health and Lyft for those who need it. The American Cancer Society recommends men at average risk discuss prostate screening with their doctor at age 50 for those with a family history. Preventative imaging and genetic testing can begin even earlier.

“People are becoming more mindful,” Avery added. “They’re realizing they can take control of their own health rather than waiting for their health to dictate terms to them.”

The Value of a Trusted Agent

Colton Turnquist grew up in Austin with close family ties to the real estate industry, developing an early understanding of the market. From the beginning, his work has been grounded in perspective, professionalism, and a strong sense of responsibility to the clients he represents. “Informing clients with confidence is essential,” Colton shares, “because they need to trust that you are the expert.” That mindset carries through every stage of the process, from initial conversations through closing, helping clients move forward with clarity at each step.

Before returning to Austin, Colton began his real estate career in New York City with Douglas Elliman, gaining experience in a fast-paced market. Prior to that, he competed in golf at the

University of Texas at Austin and Baylor University, later playing professionally. “The most significant life lesson from golf is that balance is key to being successful in anything,” he says, a perspective that continues to shape how he works with clients as they navigate important decisions.

Now a Global Real Estate Advisor and Professional Athlete Advisory Member with Engel & Völkers Austin, Colton works with a range of clients, including professional athletes, offering guidance tailored to their needs and long-term considerations.

In working with clients, several key considerations consistently guide his approach:

UNDERSTANDING THE MARKET

A clear understanding of where Austin stands today, and where it is heading, helps buyers and sellers move forward with confidence.

FUNCTIONAL LAYOUTS

In West Austin, buyers continue to prioritize floor plans designed for everyday living, with an emphasis on flow and usability.

PRESENTATION

Homes that present well, both in person and online, continue to stand out in a competitive market.

ENDURING FEATURES

Spacious kitchens, multiple living areas, and well-designed primary suites maintain lasting appeal.

EVOLVING LIVABILITY

Buyer priorities continue to shift, with increased focus on community, outdoor space, and overall lifestyle.

NAVIGATING THE PROCESS

From inspections to negotiations, a steady and informed approach helps clients manage both the practical and personal aspects of a transaction.

DESIGNED FOR LIVING

David Manning has long been a defining presence in West Austin’s architectural landscape, known for crafting spaces that feel both intentional and lived-in. His work is rooted in an early understanding of how environments influence our experience of space. As a child, time spent on his grandmother’s ranch informed his awareness of light, landscape, and the way

natural elements define a place. That perspective continues to guide his work today, where architecture is considered not just as structure, but as something lived and felt.

Degrees in both architecture and fine arts, along with time spent studying in Tuscany, contribute to a perspective grounded in both design and craft. His work reflects a relationship between form and function, guided by the belief that design should respond to the land and to the people who live there.

Listening remains central to his process. Each project begins with understanding how a client lives and what they value. In custom homes and renovations alike, the goal is to create spaces that feel personal, intentional, and connected to daily life.

“I am always eager to get the lay of the land,” Manning says.

In areas like Lake Travis, evolving regulations and environmental factors present ongoing challenges, resulting in work that responds to its setting and reflects real conditions. From managing solar exposure to preserving natural features, his designs show an understanding of how spaces exist over time.

For Manning, architecture is less about following trends or creating a signature style and more about understanding context, solving problems, and designing spaces that support everyday life. The work is measured not just by how it looks, but by how it lives.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST

Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short

Creative Director: Jen Birn

Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill

Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX

MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.

After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.

Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?

A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

THE QUIET STANDARD:

MIKE JOHNSON

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?

A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”

Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?

A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”

This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Nice? Is Whiskey On Ice

In speaking to Whiskey lovers (most happen to be men, but do accept me in their brethren as a fellow enthusiast, writer, and educator), I’ve learned a great many opinions on how to drink Whiskey. Specifically, preferences on adding water and ice vary greatly.

A brand ambassador that I had the privilege of listening to recently said the obvious: both dilution and temperature change when you add ice, so if you are going to add something, a little water is best. I personally prefer to use a water dropper, so I can add one drop at a time until I get to the desired taste.

THE BEST WAY TO ENJOY YOUR WHISKEY: ON THE ROCKS, ROCK, NEAT, OR WITH WATER

HERE ARE THE DIFFERENCES:

Rocks: Provides the highest rate of dilution as a lot of ice melts quickly. If you are drinking a barrel proof Whiskey, it kind of defeats the purpose as the distiller didn’t add water as they do in every other type of finished Whiskey.

On the Rock: The single rock, cube, or sphere is the slowest to melt and thought to be the most aesthetic. It’s nice if you want to stretch out your tasting. I often order on the rock if I want my drink to last longer.

Neat: This is the way single malt Scotch is served at a tasting event, in a branded Glencairn or Neat glass so that proper nosing for aromas can be achievedand a dram of Scotch, smaller than an ounce, fits in them perfectly.

Water: As I mentioned above, quoting the brand ambassador, a little water is better for a fine Whiskey over any kind of ice. Often, if ordered with water, the water is served in a separate vessel on the side so you can add in as much as you want.

Quoting another expert on the subject, Richard Paterson of The Dalmore famously and enthusiastically demonstrates in his Scotch classes how to drink single malt Scotch Whiskey: Paterson fills a lowball glass to the rim with ice, adds Scotch and then ceremoniously throws it over his shoulder onto the carpet of the classroom –because that much ice makes the drink worthless. One more quote, never “add green tea or milk to Whiskey. You can add a little water, but not a lot of ice.”

Ultimately, the reason we add ice can be for aesthetics, to stretch out the time spent on one glass, for cooling, and for dilution. However, the number one reason enthusiasts add water is … drumroll please … because adding a little water actually opens up a Whiskey to show more aromas and flavors.

Rethinking Men’s Health

A smarter way to approach health, performance, and daily life.

June is Men’s Health Month, a time to raise awareness around the health challenges men face and to encourage a more consistent approach to long-term well-being. More men are starting to think about their health with greater intention, focusing on energy, performance, and how they want to feel each day.

Boost Performance & Longevity Center in Lakeway, Texas reflects this evolving mindset. Founded by Dr. Steven Conroy, whose background includes training in both functional and integrative medicine along with 15 years as an emergency room physician, the Center is shaped by a combination of clinical experience and a lifelong focus on physical performance. Time spent treating serious conditions such as heart attacks, infections, and trauma offered a clear view into how often care begins at a critical moment.

Each patient experience begins with a comprehensive intake designed to establish a baseline. Through advanced testing, a detailed health history, and in-depth consultation, care becomes highly personalized, adapting to the individual’s lifestyle, routines, and goals. Rather than focusing solely on isolated concerns, the process centers on understanding what supports long-term well-being.

The model at Boost Performance & Longevity Center draws from functional and integrative medicine, centered on highly individualized care and the whole person. Care is designed as an ongoing process, with regular check-ins and updated lab work allowing for adjustments as needs evolve. Over time, this supports long-term health, function, and the ability to stay active and engaged.

For many men, this shifts how health is viewed. It becomes less about reacting to issues and more about building habits that support energy, recovery, and long-term performance, bringing the same level of discipline applied to other areas of life.

Maintaining that consistency requires care that adapts over time, evolving alongside changing needs and priorities. For more information, call (512) 888-9086 or visit boostplc.com.

WHAT WEALTHY INVESTORS ARE DOING DIFFERENTLY IN

2026

Markets finished 2025 near all-time highs.

Inflation is easing. Interest rates are beginning to normalize — yet uncertainty remains.

In 2026, sophisticated investors are rethinking how their portfolios are built.

Rather than relying on commission-based advice or onesize-fits-all model portfolios common at most traditional advisory firms, many high-net worth investors are moving toward custom, tax-aware investment strategies designed to perform across a wide range of market environments.

At Old Vine Capital, we serve a select group of high-networth families, foundations, and corporations who value:

• True fiduciary advice — no commissions, no proprietary products

• Low-cost, tax-efficient investment strategies

• Institutional-quality portfolio construction, tailored to each client

• Thoughtful diversification beyond traditional stocks and bonds

• Transparent third-party custody at Charles Schwab, with assets held in your name

Reach

Where appropriate, qualified investors may also access alternative investment strategies designed to enhance diversification and long-term return potential — including private equity, private credit, venture capital, and AI data center infrastructure — carefully integrated, never sold.

What Sets Old Vine Capital Apart

• Independent, fee-only Registered Investment Advisor

• Often significantly lower cost than traditional advisory firms

• Customized portfolios — no mutual funds, insurance, or proprietary products
