LIFESTYLE LETTER
The Heart Behind Every Story One of my favorite parts of publishing Upper Westchester City Lifestyle is discovering the stories that often unfold quietly. They aren't always the loudest stories or the ones making national headlines. Instead, they're the entrepreneurs perfecting their craft late into the evening. The volunteers organizing events that strengthen our community. The neighbors building businesses with heart and creating experiences that bring people together. This month's issue celebrates those people. Our cover feature introduces Nicole Zusi, founder of Forlanya, whose handcrafted jewelry is inspired by family, artistry, and the belief that beautiful things should become part of our everyday lives. Her story is a reminder that the most meaningful creations often begin with passion, patience, and purpose. You'll also find highlights from the IMPACT Golf Outing, an event that continues to demonstrate what's possible when an entire community rallies around a shared cause. This year's outing welcomed hundreds of golfers, more than a hundred local businesses, and over a thousand guests, all united by one mission: making a meaningful difference for children and families. It's proof that the strongest communities aren't built by a single person, they're built by people who consistently choose to show up. As you turn these pages, I hope you find more than beautiful photography and inspiring stories. I hope you discover a new local business to support, a maker whose craftsmanship you admire, or a neighbor whose generosity reminds you why Upper Westchester is such a special place to call home. Every issue we publish is rooted in the same belief: local stories matter. They connect us, inspire us, and remind us that extraordinary things are often happening right in our own backyard. Thank you for inviting us into your homes each month and for continuing to champion the businesses, nonprofits, and people who make this community thrive. We are honored to share their stories and grateful that you're part of ours. Warmly,

CHOPPE D GR E E K SA L A D
The perfect back-to-school salad for busy weeknights, easy lunches, and September gatherings.
September in Darien and New Canaan means school buses, packed schedules, and dinners that need to come together fast. This chopped Greek salad has become my go-to for exactly that kind of week. It takes about 15 minutes start to finish, needs zero cooking, and makes the most of the last of the season's vine-ripened tomatoes and cucumbers while we can still get them. It's the kind of dish I make for a quick weeknight dinner, pack for lunch the next day, or bring to a September gathering when I want
something that feels fresh but isn't fussy. It also happens to be one of the most requested recipes in my own house once the after-school activities start piling up on the calendar. As a Registered Dietitian, I love this salad because it's doing more than filling you up. The romaine, tomato, and cucumber are full of fiber that feeds the good bacteria in your gut and keeps digestion moving smoothly. Olive oil and olives bring hearthealthy monounsaturated fats that also help calm

inflammation in the body. The fresh herbs and vegetables supply antioxidants that protect your cells and support immune function, which matters as everyone heads back into closer quarters at school and work. And because the meal is so well balanced, it helps keep blood sugar steady, which supports both hormone health and the kind of even, lasting energy you need to get through a long September day. It's proof that simple, fresh ingredients can make a real difference in how you feel, not just how a meal tastes.
Ingredients (serves 4) • • • • • • • • • • • •
3 hearts of romaine, chopped 1 tomato, chopped 1 bell pepper, chopped 4 oz dairy-free or regular feta cheese (we love Violife) 1/2 cup olives, chopped 1 mini cucumber, chopped 1/3 cup olive oil 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 clove garlic, chopped 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Wash and prep all of the vegetables, then chop them into bite-sized pieces. 2. Combine the romaine, tomato, bell pepper, feta, olives, and cucumber in a large serving bowl. 3. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper until well blended. 4. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat.
5. Serve right away, or store the dressing separately if you're meal-prepping for the week ahead.
Serving Tips & Substitutions
This salad is endlessly easy to customize, which is part of why it's stayed in my regular rotation. Add grilled chicken, salmon, or chickpeas to turn it into a heartier main course, or stir in cooked quinoa or brown rice if you want something more substantial for dinner. If dairy is a sensitivity, a plant-based feta like Violife keeps all of the flavor without the digestive upset; if not, traditional feta is delicious here too. A handful of fresh parsley, dill, or mint on top adds extra brightness and a boost of antioxidants. This is also a great one to prep ahead: chop everything and keep the dressing on the side in a separate container, so lunches are ready to assemble in under a minute all week. It also holds up well in a lunchbox or thermos container, which makes it an easy one to send along on busy school mornings.
Where to Source It Locally
September is actually a wonderful month to shop hyper-local for this one. The Darien Farmers Market and New Canaan Farmers Market typically run through the end of the month, and both are excellent sources for the last of the season's tomatoes, cucumbers, and fresh oregano, often picked that same morning. Palmer's Market in Darien is a great stop for good olives, a quality olive oil, and feta. If you're looking for a dairy-free option, most local grocers, including Stew Leonard's in Norwalk, now carry plant-based feta right alongside the traditional kind. What's your favorite way to use up the last of summer's produce before fall arrives? I would love to hear about it.

THE ModeT GUIDE To Back to School Style in Westchester
ARTICLE BY TANYA MEYERS, FASHION STYLIST
The ModeT Guide to Back to School Style in Westchester Let’s be honest: getting ready for a new school year can feel like a lot. Between sudden growth spurts, worn out sneakers, and the inevitable request for whatever this year’s must have item is, it's easy to spend more than you planned and still feel like your child’s wardrobe is incomplete. I work with families to make the process feel much more manageable. To me, a good deal isn't simply the cheapest option on the rack. It's something that fits well, feels comfortable, gets worn, and works with clothing your child already owns. Here is how to tackle back-to-school shopping without the headache. 1. Start in the Closet Before grabbing your keys and heading to the stores, take twenty minutes to see what still works. Kids have a funny way of growing unevenly. A favorite graphic tee may still fit perfectly, while every pair of jeans is suddenly two inches too short. Have them do a quick try-on of the pieces they wear most: shirts, jeans, everyday pants, jackets, sneakers, and sportswear. Then make a simple list of what still fits, what needs replacing, and what's truly missing. It sounds obvious, but this step can save you from buying another navy hoodie when what your child really needs is a rain jacket. 2. Know Where to Shop Locally I'm a big believer in mixing price points. Spend where fit, comfort, or quality really matter, and save on the pieces your child may outgrow or lose interest in by next season. For Affordable Basics: The Targets in White Plains or Mount Kisco are easy stops for tees, leggings, everyday clothes, and school supplies. It's also a great place for tweens and teens to try a trend without making it a major investment.
14
T R E N D SE T T E R | STYL E + BE AU T Y
For Unique & Boutique Pieces: You don't need an entire boutique wardrobe. One great jacket, sweatshirt, or accessory makes affordable basics feel much more personal. Lester’s at Rye Ridge works especially well when shopping for different ages or for older children who have a very specific look in mind. Hip Kid in Chappaqua offers fun options for younger kids and tweens, while &JAMES in Katonah carries children’s and tween clothing with a polished but age appropriate feel. CONTINUED >

15
For the One and Done Haul: Start at The Westchester in White Plains. Nordstrom is useful for dependable shoes, coats, denim, and clothing across several ages, while Abercrombie Kids and American Eagle offer more trend focused options for older children and tweens. Nearby, Dick’s Sporting Goods at The Source is a practical stop for sneakers, athletic clothing, and sports equipment. For Fast Fashion Upgrades: At Cross County Center in Yonkers, H&M is helpful for simple tees and lightweight layers, while Zara is one of my favorites for adding a more current piece at an approachable price. 3. Redefine What Makes a Good Deal A deeply discounted shirt that stays hanging in the closet isn't a bargain; it's simply clutter. A slightly more expensive pair of jeans worn twice a week is a much better purchase. For younger children, prioritize comfort with washable fabrics and pull on pants. For middle and high schoolers, start with versatile foundations like well-fitting pants and a reliable light jacket, then leave room for pieces that express their personal style. Remember, September in Westchester is often warm. Buy only what they can wear immediately and save the heavy sweaters, coats, and boots for later. The Bottom Line Let your child be part of the conversation. Giving younger kids a few curated choices and older kids more freedom makes shopping easier and ensures they wear what you buy. The goal isn't to buy more. It's to make better choices so getting dressed is one less worry, helping your child start the year feeling comfortable, confident, and exactly like themselves.

T R E N D SE T T E R | STYL E + BE AU T Y
ModeT’s Back to School Shopping Checklist Before you shop, ask: • Does it fit right now? • Can it be worn with at least three things already in the closet? • Is it comfortable enough for a full school day? • Will they choose to wear it? • Is it replacing something they need, or simply adding more? One last tip: keep receipts and leave tags on until they try everything again at home. A great deal is only worth it when the piece fits, works, and earns its place in the wardrobe. If it does not work out, simply return it with zero guilt.

How Tony Pec transformed a community golf outing into one of the region’s largest charitable events, uniting local businesses to create lasting impact
Driven By Purpose
What started as one man's vision has grown into one of the nation's largest community-driven charity golf outings. Through his leadership, alongside The Circle and Y Not You, Tony Pec has united hundreds of local businesses, volunteers, and supporters around a shared mission of giving back. More than a golf tournament, the IMPACT Golf Outing has become a movement. Raising over $185,000 for Blythedale Children's Hospital in just four years while proving the extraordinary power of a community that shows up for one another.

W HE R E COMMUNIT Y C ONNE C T S MORE THAN A CELEBRATION, THE EVENING RECEPTION SHOWCASED THE POWER OF LOCAL BUSINESSES, MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS, AND A COMMUNITY UNITED BY GENEROSITY
As the final putts dropped and golfers made their way off the course, the energy only continued to build. More than 1,500 guests gathered for the IMPACT Golf Outing's evening celebration, transforming an already remarkable day into one of the region's most anticipated community events. What began on the fairways evolved into an unforgettable evening filled with live entertainment, networking, philanthropy, and an extraordinary display of local support. Unlike many fundraising galas, the IMPACT Golf Outing's evening reception is built almost entirely by the community it serves. More than 60 local businesses filled the event with interactive experiences, products, food, beverages, giveaways, and opportunities for guests to discover the incredible entrepreneurs who call Northern Westchester home. Combined with the more than 60 businesses that participated on the golf course throughout the day, over 120 unique local vendorshelped create an experience unlike any other. Everywhere you looked, conversations were happening. Business owners introduced themselves to new clients. Friends reunited after months apart. Neighbors celebrated together while discovering new businesses, supporting charitable initiatives, and sharing stories that extended well beyond the event itself. It was a reminder that some of the strongest communities are built through simple moments of connection. CONTINUED >

While the atmosphere was festive, the mission remained front and center. Hosted by Tony Pec, The Circle, and Y Not You, the IMPACT Golf Outing exists to create meaningful change for children and families served by Blythedale Children's Hospital. Every golfer, sponsor, volunteer, auction bidder, vendor, and guest played a role in making that mission possible. This year's event raised an incredible $100,000, bringing the outing's four-year fundraising total to more than $185,000. Those numbers represent far more than dollars, they represent hope, opportunity, and the collective generosity of thousands of people choosing to make a difference. Perhaps even more impressive is how the event has grown while remaining deeply rooted in the local community. Without relying on major corporate sponsorships or national media attention, the IMPACT Golf Outing has become what is believed to be the largest charity golf outing of its kind in the country. Its success isn't driven by celebrity headlines, it's driven by neighbors supporting neighbors. The photographs throughout these pages capture that spirit perfectly. They celebrate the smiles, laughter, partnerships, volunteers, and unforgettable moments that make this event so much more than a fundraiser. Each image reflects a community that understands meaningful change happens when people come together with a shared purpose. As another successful year comes to a close, one thing is certain: the true impact of this event extends far beyond a single day. It lives on through every relationship strengthened, every local business supported, every child helped, and every person inspired to believe that together, we really can accomplish extraordinary things.

Wear Colors That Truly
LOVE YOU A quick guide to finding flattering shades for life.
KNOW YOUR UNDERTONE Your undertone doesn’t change with the seasons. Check your wrist veins: blue means cool, green means warm, and unclear may be neutral. Cool tones love jewel colors; warm tones glow in earthy, rich shades.
CONSIDER CONTRAST Do you have high contrast between your hair, skin, and eyes (like dark hair and light skin)? High contrast looks great in bold, clear colors. Low contrast (like blonde hair and fair skin)? Softer, blended tones often suit you best.
THE WHITE VS. CREAM TEST Hold a white and ivory shirt near your face. If white flatters, you're likely cooltoned. If ivory glows against your skin, you're likely warm-toned. This quick test reveals your undertone with ease.
BUILD AROUND YOUR “WOW” COLORS Once you identify a few colors that make you look and feel amazing, use those as the base of your palette. These are your power colors—build your wardrobe and makeup around them!
PRO TIP You don’t have to follow rules perfectly. Your color palette is a guide, not a limit. Mix, match, and most importantly—wear what makes you feel beautiful.

The brand's name, Forlanya, Hungarian for "for my daughter" is a tribute to both the next generation and the generations that came before. Her grandmother, a personal beautician to aristocratic families in Budapest, instilled a lifelong appreciation for beauty, craftsmanship, and confidence that continues to influence every collection today. That heritage is evident throughout the collection. Hand-sculpted florals, bold statement earrings, delicate layering necklaces, and modern classics are created in small batches using thoughtfully sourced materials, ensuring every piece feels distinctive while remaining effortlessly wearable. Many of the floral designs are individually formed petal by petal, making no two pieces exactly alike. Nicole believes jewelry should do more than complete an outfit, it should become part of a woman's story. Whether it's a custom design commemorating a milestone, a favorite pair of earrings worn on vacation, or a signature necklace that becomes an everyday staple, each piece is created with longevity in mind. In an era dominated by fast fashion, Forlanya offers something refreshingly personal: handcrafted jewelry designed with intention, inspired by family, and created to celebrate confidence in every season of life. Because the best jewelry isn't simply worn. It's lived in. See the latest collection at https://forlanya.com or on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/ forlanyajewelry/

ARCHITECTURE OF PERSONAL IDENTITY An approach that begins with understanding the client's aspirations, lifestyle, site, regulatory environment, and long-term objectives before design formally begins.
Rather than marketing architecture as a stylistic service, I want to educate discerning homeowners about the strategic decisions that determine the long-term success of a home. This has led me to develop the concept of the Architecture of Personal Identity—an approach that begins with understanding the client's aspirations, lifestyle, site, regulatory environment, and long-term objectives before design formally begins. From this foundation, I'm building a family of complementary specialties, including high-performance residences, waterfront and coastal homes, historic and heritage properties, and adaptive reuse. My goal is to become known not simply for attractive projects, but for helping clients make better decisions before they invest in design and construction.

COASTAL CHIC, PERFECTED
A TIMELESS COLLECTION BRINGING NANTUCKET'S EFFORTLESS SUMMER STYLE TO GREENWICH'S SHORELINE AND BEYOND
ARTICLE BY LAURA SABIA
Every issue, I'll be sharing one of my favorite finds that perfectly captures the spirit of the season and this month, nothing says New England summer quite like vineyard vines' new Nantucket Women's Collection. As someone who loves timeless pieces over fleeting trends, this collection immediately caught my attention. Inspired by one of the East Coast's most iconic summer destinations, it blends classic coastal style with thoughtful details that feel both elevated and effortless. From soft hydrangea-inspired hues to handdrawn illustrations of Nantucket baskets, sailboats, and island landmarks, every piece tells a story rooted in craftsmanship and tradition. What I appreciate most is its versatility. Whether you're heading to a waterfront dinner in Greenwich, spending the weekend on Nantucket, hosting friends in the backyard, or simply enjoying a stroll through town, these pieces transition beautifully from one summer moment to the next. Lightweight sweaters, breezy dresses, polished separates, and timeless accessories create the kind of wardrobe that feels elegant without trying too hard. As a New England brand founded on nearby Martha's Vineyard, vineyard vines has always celebrated the relaxed sophistication that defines summers along our coastline. This newest collection feels especially fitting for Greenwich, where classic style and coastal living go hand in hand. Even better, our local vineyard vines store is one of only a handful of locations carrying the exclusive collection, making it an exciting addition for shoppers looking to refresh their summer wardrobe with something truly special. Although, the best pieces in your closet aren't necessarily the trendiest, they're the ones you reach for year after year. This collection feels destined to become exactly that.
