ive into the pages of any good adventure book—or into the screen of a movie at the local theater—and you’ll quickly be immersed in captivating stories. You’ll be pulled into worlds of wizards fighting dark magic, pirates trying to seize control of ghost ships, a quest for revenge on a whale, a 1,100-mile hike for self-discovery and healing, the visit to a theme park populated by dinosaurs … the list goes on and on, but, unfortunately, we’re limited here. The point being: adventure exists all around us if you know where to find it—and with this month’s issue of Two Eighty Lifestyle, you won’t have to go far.

What better time to have an adventure than summer? The weather is warm, the kids are out of school and there are endless possibilities for experiences that create memories that can last a lifetime. We hope these pages will inspire you to explore, to do things you’ve always wanted to do but never did and to—most importantly—have a little fun. There’s a Pinterest-worthy quote often credited to Mark Twain that we feel sums it up best: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones that you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. Have some great adventures, Two Eighty.

Who We Who We Are Are

Mindy Obrien, REALTOR®

Michael Langston, Broker/Owner

Michael has spent most of his life on Lake Martin. Growing up in Opelika in the 1960s, both his and his extended family bought second homes on the lake. He spent every summer weekend exploring every inch of Lake Martin - as only a child and then teenager can. After selling his marketing company, he permanently moved to the lake in 2002 and went to work for Russell Lands Real Estate. He has grown to be one of Lake Martin’s premier REALTORS® and prominent leading the Russell Land’s Dadeville office in sales as their top producer. He was also instrumental in the sales and marketing of many of the new numerous national and international awards for being a Top Marketing and Producing REALTOR®. He attributes much of his success to the many great REALTORS® and Brokers that were his mentors over the past 15 years, such as Mickey Phillips, Lee Lester, and John Margeson who have tools and knowledge that he still uses daily.

In 2016, Michael saw a need for a company strongly dedicated to promoting and selling property on the ‘Dadeville/Atlanta side’ of Lake Martin. He formed his own Real Estate Brokerage has grown to be THE top listing brokerage in our market – from Martin Dam to the Highway 280 Bridge.

Windy Carter, Associate Broker the past three years. Her attention to detail and in-depth knowledge of Lake Martin has allowed her to quickly rise to become our Top Producing REALTOR® for 2016. She was born and raised in Dadeville and has called Lake Martin home her entire life. She and her husband, Michael Carter, have owned several retail businesses in Dadeville. While she is more than qualified and well versed on all of our Lake Martin developments, she specializes in selling lake property outside of these and has strong relationships with many of our area builders.

WE ARE LAKE MARTIN™

Originally from Alexander City, Mindy got her REALTOR® license in 2013 in Texas. She met Michael Langston when they were each asked to give a presentation on real estate marketing. In 2015, she finally answered her heart’s call to move back to Alabama and the Lake Martin area. She as Michael’s second-to-none approach to marketing. Mindy has been a very successful part of the LME team since then. She represents sales

Michael Carter, REALTOR®

Michael has been a REALTOR® for over 25 years and is a life-long resident of Dadeville. He is the President of the Dadeville Chamber of Commerce and a member for the Tallapoosa Board of Education. Michael and his wife, Windy Carter, have owned several commercial Experience. After growing up on Highway 49, Michael is particularly knowledgeable about the Stillwaters community. He started working there at fifteen years old when ground was broken on the neighborhood. He and Windy have lived in Stillwaters for 25 years. Michael’s deep ties to our area give him a unique perspective on Lake Martin real estate.

Jenni Mims, REALTOR® Media Coordinator in 2016. She received her real estate license when she moved to Auburn over twenty years ago. After she and her husband had two children, she left real estate to start a retail establishment in Auburn. In 2008, she and her husband bought their lake home. DOUBLE OAK MOUNTAIN, AN ALABAMA MARVEL ARTICLE APRIL WHATLEY

A

labama is not only known for its beauty, but it is notorious for its diversity in outdoor activities as well as popular shopping and dining destinations.

Double Oak Mountain, a ridge south of Birmingham and home to Alabama’s largest state park, has developed into a trendy area to appreciate all of that. Historical and cultural influences draw more and more people every year from around the globe. Oak Mountain State Park is the largest park in Alabama and is approximately 9,940 acres of outdoor bliss. Boasting over 50 miles of hiking and biking trails, the park is now listed by the International Mountain Biking Association as one of the most epic rides in the world. Outdoor enthusiasts from all over come here to enjoy impressive views while hiking on one of the many trails, the highest reaching elevations of 1,260 feet. The park also offers a variety of water activities and rentals—paddle boats, kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. You can bring your own non-gasoline powered boat or rent a jon boat from the marina for an afternoon of fishing and relaxation on one of the three stocked lakes. Or if you would rather do absolutely nothing, grab a chair and book and relax on either of the two beaches that are available for your leisure. If nature is not your pleasure, try shopping at some of the local retailers or enjoy a show at the legendary Oak Mountain Amphitheatre. This remarkable outdoor venue has been appreciated by many great artists from all over the world. Aside from musical performances, the amphitheater hosts a variety of other events including a state fair every year. For a detailed listed of upcoming events, you can find a calendar at TheOakMountainAmphitheater.com.

RESTING S RANCH MAGICAL INDIAN SPRINGS ESTATE

Two Eighty Lifestyle | July 2017

R

esting S Ranch is a 35-acre estate in the heart of the protected and coveted area

of Indian Springs. Set against the backdrop of Oak Mountain and the 10,000-acre Oak Mountain State Park, the property is a sanctuary of privacy. Passers-by can only guess what lies inside the gates—beyond the trees and over the handsome bridge. The long driveway winds through pastures with horses and donkeys; past an enchanting waterfall and a spring-fed pond, home to swans and geese. The drive is bordered by a mature pecan grove planted alongside the classic stack-stone fencing the owner brought from the Historical Registry of Lexington, Kentucky. The centerpiece of the estate is the 13,000-square-foot home: an architectural
