Have you ever paused to think about the impact fathers have on their homes and families? The truth is, the role of a father is immeasurable. Fathers shape homes, nurture growth, and provide the foundation upon which children can thrive. And as a dad, you decide the level of impact you have.
Now a father myself, I take immense pride in carrying forward the example my father set for me: leading by example, providing a listening ear and a voice of reason, and always celebrating the victories in life.

A father’s gifts are unique and lasting. His strength, his words, his guidance all create an impact that ripples through generations. Here are just a few of the ways fathers build up their homes:
• A father’s strength can be a steady anchor.
• His words can encourage and inspire.
• A dad’s hugs can provide comfort in difficult times.
• A smile from a dad can instill joy and confidence.
• Time spent with a dad is filled with both fun and productivity.
• A dad’s physicality can challenge and excite.
• His guidance can be life-changing.
• A father’s correction is sometimes life-saving.
• Adventures with a dad create unforgettable memories.
This month, let’s celebrate fathers everywhere. If you have a father or father figure in your life, let them know how much they matter to you. And if you are a dad, thank you. You are an invaluable part of your family, your community, and the world.
Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads out there!

Tulsa designer Ellie Ediger completely transforms a midtown three-car garage
ARTICLE BY BROCK REYNOLDS PHOTOGRAPHY BY KACEY GILPIN
Ellie Ediger Interiors has reimagined a three-car garage in a midtown Tulsa home from the studs out. One bay's sliding glass door provides easy access from the pool to the pool bath. Behind the next, a serene gym complete with a sauna and cold plunge. The third was originally designed for storage space, though the homeowners have since repurposed it for a golf simulator.

Ellie, the designer for this project and owner of Ellie Ediger Interiors, has always had a love for interior design. Growing up in Enid, she spent many hours sifting through interior design magazines, illustrating spaces from the inspiration she found within them. In high school, she worked at a coffee shop owned by an interior designer, and the proximity made the career path tangible for her. After earning her interior design degree from Oklahoma State in 2011, she spent eight years at Tulsa textile house Fabricut, designing rooms for ads, building showrooms, and flying to Paris for trade shows, all of which helped shape her eye and her ambition. In 2019, she joined Bailey Austin Design, where her boss and mentor Bailey Austin, a designer and trained architect, taught her the nuances of high-end residential design.
In October 2024, Bailey decided to scale back and encouraged Ellie to launch her own studio and carry her current book of business forward. "Sometimes you don't see what others see within yourself," Ellie says. A year and change in, her name is on the door, and the focus has shifted from working within someone else's vision to defining her own.
When asked about her style, Ellie quoted Charles Faudree, the late, renowned Tulsa designer she interned for in college, who influenced her approach to design. "It's about the mix, not the match." Some homes, she says, try to match too much. Every metal finish. Every paint color. "It's about finding balance between scale and texture, but ultimately it's about what you want to look at every day,” she adds.
Ellie’s style is evident through her design of the garage. The clients are a Tulsa couple with two young boys and a love for hosting. The garage space is one of two on the property, detached from the main residence and topped with a mother-in-law suite.

Ellie cut a sliding door into the first bay to connect to the pool, then built out a pool bath with green-and-white striped tile in the shower, tropical parrot wallpaper, and a burl wood vanity. The rest of that bay became a kids' zone, anchored by a navy cabinet faced in the same striped tile, sized to accommodate a ping-pong table in the future.
The second bay became the gym, complete with a cold plunge and sauna. The homeowners wanted something neutral and serene on a contractor's budget that wasn't going to stretch. Ellie answered with unfinished wood slats running floor to ceiling on two walls, neutral rugs underfoot, and three off-the-shelf mirrors lifted by LED lighting set behind them. A new window pulled in daylight, and a mini-split made the space usable even in a Tulsa August.
The third bay remained as closed storage. Vinyl wood plank flooring runs throughout, with baseboards along every drywall section to finish the look. "I was surprised how elevated the garage could look without an extreme budget," Ellie says. That elevation was created through attention to every detail. "It was an incredibly rewarding project; totally unique," Ellie reflects. When asked what advice she would give to homeowners looking to reimagine a space in their home, Ellie focused on the inspiration. “Look through social media and interior design magazines. Find spaces that draw your eye and ask yourself, ‘What specifically do I love about this space?’” The garage perfectly captures one of Ellie's strengths: the ability to unify distinct pieces into one thoughtful, intentional space.

PICKLE-BRINED CHICKEN WINGS SOAR TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH ALABAMA WHITE SAUCE.

INGREDIENTS
• 2 pounds chicken wings (flats and drumettes)
• Pickle juice - enough to cover wings
• 1 – 2 teaspoons garlic salt
• ¼ teaspoon pepper
• 6 tablespoons butter
• A few dashes of hot sauce
• 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
INSTRUCTIONS
I’ve spent years searching for the perfect wing flavor, never quite satisfied, until I heard a podcast suggestion: brining chicken wings in pickle juice. It sounded strange at first, but it yields incredibly tender and flavorful wings! Since then, I save pickle juice from every jar I buy just to recreate these beloved wings. If I run out of pickle juice, olive juice works too. I air fry mine, but if you don’t have an air fryer, cook them as you normally would. Don’t forget to toss them in a buttery dill sauce and try the Alabama white BBQ sauce for an extra layer of goodness!
1. Place chicken wings in a non-reactive container and pour pickle juice over chicken wings until completely covered.
2. Place it in the fridge and let it marinate, covered, for at least 8 hours.
3. Drain wings, discard pickle juice, and completely pat wings dry.
4. Put dried wings in a bowl and sprinkle with garlic salt and pepper. Mix well.
5. Place wings in an air fryer basket, being careful not to crowd. Cook at 400 degrees for 28 minutes, turning every 8 minutes until crispy. If you don’t have an air fryer, bake them in the oven for 35 - 40 minutes at 400 degrees, flipping halfway through.
6. Melt the butter and add a few splashes of hot sauce of your choice and mix in a bowl. Add wings and completely cover with butter mixture. Sprinkle with fresh dill and toss a few times, and serve with my white barbeque sauce.

• 1 ½ cups mayonnaise (I prefer Duke’s)
• ¼ cup water
• ¼ cup white wine vinegar
• 1 tablespoon pepper, coarsely ground
• 1 tablespoon Creole mustard
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon sugar
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
INSTRUCTIONS
Whisk all ingredients together until blended. Dip your pickle juice-brined wings in this sauce and taste the joy! Store in the refrigerator for 1 - 2 weeks.

Inside a historic Sapulpa livery stable, James Calley Brewing Company pairs the freshest beer with craft food and warm hospitality

Oklahomans find new flavors at James Calley Brewing Company (JCBC). This isn’t just another brewery. It’s a community built within a historic building where people come to meet friends and enjoy fresh beers and homemade delicacies. This isn’t your normal brewery; it is an experience worth the trip out west.
“We want people to feel at home and welcome,” Jim says.
“To walk away knowing they didn’t just have a great beer, but great food and a great experience.”
Co-founders Randy Calley and James “Jim” Dilley wanted to bring something unique to Sapulpa and the craft beer market. It started with the renovation of a historic downtown building that opened as a livery stable in 1915. It is truly a landmark and is welcoming from the front door all the way to the back patio. You won't find any uneven tables at James Calley; everything from the cushioned chairs to the self-balancing table legs was thought through with guests in mind. This isn’t your typical brewpub either; it is family friendly and even has a large-scale Connect Four game for kids. The fresh-baked cookies compete with any you will find!
Freshness is central to everything at JCBC. Traditionally, beer is brewed in one vessel, fermented in another, and transported before serving. JCBC does things differently. Using a unique system designed in Canada by BrewHa Equipment, they brew, ferment, finish, and serve from the very same vessel, a method so rare they may be the only brewery in the country using it as the manufacturer intended. Straight from the tank to your glass, JCBC calls the method Vessel to Vessel™.
“We started with the idea of serving the freshest beer possible,” Randy says. “It has become what we do, and it has exceeded our expectations. Pair our Landman Stout with a fresh Reuben from the kitchen and top it off with a chocolate chip cookie. You won’t be disappointed.” Think dark beers are too heavy? Not at James Calley. “Our dark beers are just as popular as our lighter ones, not only because of the brewing method, but because we don’t use additives of any kind. The focus is on drinkability and flavor,” explains Jen Wagner, assistant brewmaster. If you ask her, Jen may also whip you up an Old Fashioned made with one of the beers, homemade cocktail syrup, and yes, even with ice and cherries!
“We have craft beer, but in our minds, we also serve craft food,” explains Amanda Stephens, partner and
general manager. “Beer is what got us here, but hospitality is what turns our brewery into a destination.”
This philosophy has become the foundation for success for everyone involved. Weekly specials, loaded tots, flatbreads, and specialty-ordered meats cap off a menu that is more like a deli than a brewery. “The goal is unique offerings and something for everyone, but our claim to fame is our Reuben sandwich. You'll probably need a to-go box,” says Amanda.
Their beer menu reflects the balance of tradition and creativity. European styles like German lagers and Czech pilsners provide a foundation, while JCBC adds its own twist. Their dark ales and lagers are bold yet unexpectedly smooth. And don't let the cream ales fool you—they're not creamy in a dairy sense. Just as important are the ingredients: specialty malts derived from regenerative farming practices that restore soil health. “Every order comes with a report showing the environmental impact saved, details that are important to us and our beers,” Randy notes.
The owners and every employee remain focused on the people walking through the door, not on filling shelves in faraway stores. What truly sets JCBC apart is its role as a gathering place. The building was designed for brewing, but it thrives as a space for connection. Upstairs, the mezzanine hosts weddings, rehearsal dinners, and community events. Downstairs, live music fills the air, turning typical nights into an entertainment destination.
“We want people to feel at home and welcome,” Jim says. “To walk away knowing they didn’t just have a great beer, but great food and a great experience. That’s what James Calley is all about, and our entire staff lives by it.”
James Calley Brewing needs to be on your list even if you don’t drink beer. A variety of wines, seltzers, ciders, and non-alcoholic drinks will give you plenty to choose from and will most likely bring you back, especially after a red velvet cookie.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST

Creative Director: Jen Birn
Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill
Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX
MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.
After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.
Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?
A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?
A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”
Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?
A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”
This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. THESE DELICIOUS RECIPES ARE LIGHT, BRIGHT AND FEEL LIKE SUMMER
The sun has returned, and grilling season is upon us. With the nice weather comes vegetable gardens and fresh produce, along with the overwhelming desire to be outside as much as possible. We’ve compiled some fresh and light dishes that you can shop for at your local farmers market and whether you’re looking for a quick mid-week meal or something to grill for a crowd on the weekend these dishes won’t disappoint. These pair well together or can stand on their own!

• 2lbs. Outside skirt steak*
• 2 Tablespoons lime*
• 2 Tablespoons finely, chopped cilantro
• ¼ Cup olive oil or avocado oil
• ¼ White onion, finely chopped
• 1 Tablespoon cumin
• Salt and pepper to taste
1. Place skirt steak into gallon freezer bag
2. Combine all other ingredients in bowl and mix. Pour over steak and marinate for 3-4 hours or overnight in the fridge.
3. Bring skirt steak to room temperature by letting it sit out for one hour.
4. Get your grill hot on one side and medium on the other.
5. Once the grill is ready, wipe excess marinade off steak. Starting on the hot side, place skirt steak on grill for 2 minutes per side, attaining a nice sear.
6. Transfer steak to the cooler side of grill and cook until the internal temp is 130°. Let rest for 10 minutes (temp will rise while resting).
7. Carve and serve. This dish pairs well with beans and rice or served as tacos. Following is a chimichurri sauce that compliments it nicely.
*Outside skirt steak is a more tender cut than inside skirt steak, for this recipe outside skirt is recommended. Do not use too much lime as the citrus can cook the meat before putting it on the grill, resulting in a tougher texture.

• ½ Cup parsley, finely chopped
• ½ Cup cilantro, finely chopped
• 2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
• 3 Cloves garlic, minced
• 1 Red chili (whole or deseeded depending on desired level of heat)
• ½ Teaspoon dried oregano
• 1 Teaspoon salt
• 1 Tablespoon lime juice (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. You can make this in the late morning and let it sit for around 4-6 hours, or you can make it the day before and let the flavors meld overnight in the fridge. Just be sure to take it out and get it to room temp before you serve it, as olive oil hardens in the fridge. Serve over skirt steak or tacos.

• 2 Ears sweet corn
• 10oz. Cherry tomatoes
• ¼ Cup lime juice
• 1 Finely chopped jalapeno or serrano (whole or deseeded depending on desired level of heat)
• ¼ Cup cilantro, finely chopped
• ½ Cup white onion, chopped
• 2 Cloves garlic, minced
• Salt to taste
1. Grill corn, you do not need to soak the corn beforehand.
2. Place corn on the grill (inside their husks) over medium heat turning every few minutes.
3. After 10 to 12 minutes shuck the corn and put the cobs back on the grill for 2-4 minutes rotating frequently to achieve that charred look and flavor.
4. Cut the corn from the cob, place in bowl and add all other ingredients. Let the mixture meld for about an hour and serve with tortilla chips or as a taco garnish.
