LIFESTYLE LETTER
We live in a world that values productivity and efficiency, where every moment seems to be mapped out and planned. I’ll admit that I fall into this mindset sometimes too, believing that the only worthwhile activities are those that can be measured, calculated, and optimized. But a life that is too structured starts to miss something vital: space for exploration.

We need room for discovery: for trying new things and being willing to be a beginner. It’s often in the unplanned moments that connection deepens, memories are formed, and trust is built.
I remember launching my first magazine in Rogers, Arkansas, feeling completely unsure of myself and the direction I was going, but my husband kept reminding me to just keep going even when I felt lost. Looking back, it was in those moments of uncertainty that I grew the most and discovered what I was truly capable of.
This issue is about giving yourself permission to explore, whether that looks like a spontaneous trip, a new hobby, or simply unstructured moments with the people you love.
Let’s make space for the unexpected and the unexplored, trusting that some of the richest connections are formed there!

Winnipeg in the winter, and a 17-year-old waits 45 minutes in the cold for Keanu Reeves. Her fingers are numb. She is not there for an autograph. She is there to ask him to appear in her audition tape for MuchMusic, Canada’s MTV. When he finally agrees, she writes her number on a gum wrapper with a borrowed lip liner.
He calls days later.
That 17-year-old was Jen Cohen — fitness expert, host of the Habits & Hustle podcast, and best-selling author. She has built a career on the premise her frostbitten afternoon proved. She calls the practice the 10% Target: 10 attempts at whatever you want most in life.
The premise is simple. Most people never make one attempt. Almost nobody makes two. The math works in favor of the person who keeps going.
The top-rated Habits & Hustle podcast has logged hundreds of conversations with high performers and the people who study what the body does to the mind. Her TEDx talk, The Secret to Getting Anything You Want in Life, has traveled widely inside Fortune 500 sales-training rooms. On the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Cohen sits down to share the working rules that are the foundation of her latest book, Bigger, Better, Bolder.
“You have to be the CEO of your own life.”
FEATURING JEN COHEN

1 2
The door opens, or another door does. The unmade attempt and the refused one leave you in the same place — except one of them teaches you something.
Cohen frames her habits as a wager: How do I stack the deck so I win more than I lose? The workout happens first, and the food decisions follow. The email follow-up gets sent, and the answer arrives. The choices compound in a single direction.
3
No one is born with it. The people who look disciplined are running a routine they have rehearsed long enough that it no longer feels like effort. The reps are the skill. Miss them, and the skill fades, the same as any other.
4
Confidence does not arrive by repeating the word. It arrives after the body has done the thing — the workout finished, the cold walk endured, the email sent. The mind takes its cues from what the body proves it can do. Talk follows action, not the other way around.
5
The first decision sets the slope of the rest. Skip the Monday workout, and the rest of the week tends to follow. Hold the line on Monday, and the slope tilts the other way.

River Spirit Casino delivers a world-class escape without leaving the banks of the Arkansas River

Sometimes, the best escape is the one hiding in plain sight. Just minutes from downtown Tulsa, tucked along the banks of the Arkansas River, River Spirit Casino Resort has quietly become one of the most compelling destinations in the region.
For Tulsans, the appeal is simple: all the luxury, entertainment and relaxation of a high-end resort vacation, without the hassle of traveling to find it. River Spirit’s 27-story glass hotel tower offers 483 beautifully crafted rooms and 54 suites with high-end finishes and modern fixtures, with many showcasing panoramic views of the Arkansas River and the Tulsa skyline. Thoughtful design, attentive service and carefully curated tribal artwork celebrating the resort’s Muscogee Nation heritage give the property a distinctiveness that no other luxury destination in the region can replicate.
For guests looking to fully unwind, Emerge Spa & Salon is a destination worthy of the trip on its own. The full-service spa offers an ample treatment menu including deep tissue and Swedish massages, rejuvenating facials, hydrating body wraps and more specialized treatments such as Botox, laser treatments and medical facial peels. Quiet, unhurried and impeccably staffed, it is the kind of refined retreat that invites guests to linger well past their appointment time.

The resort’s tropical pool terrace, known as “an oasis on the river,” rivals anything found at a premier coastal property. Private cabanas with TVs, fans and a dedicated service staff can accommodate up to 12 guests. A swim-up bar and sun-soaked lily pads line the water’s edge, creating an outdoor sanctuary that feels both indulgent and effortless. Margaritaville’s Tiki Bar & Dining provides poolside dining and beverage options.
Whether the occasion calls for a romantic weekend, a celebratory gathering or a solo recharge, River Spirit Casino Resort meets every expectation with polish, hospitality and intention. For the 10th consecutive year, River Spirit is a certified AAA 4 Diamond hotel, a distinction that reflects its unrelenting commitment to excellence. This elite status ensures the guest experience is truly extraordinary, from check-in to checkout.

Pat Crofts, CEO of Muscogee Nation Gaming Enterprises, captured the vision succinctly: “From world-class dining and entertainment to premier accommodations, we invest in every detail to ensure visitors enjoy an unparalleled level of hospitality, right here in Tulsa.”
Beyond the hotel, spa and pool, River Spirit offers a dining and entertainment lineup that stands among the finest in the region.
The Cove Theater anchors the resort’s entertainment offerings with an intimate 2,500-seat venue designed to bring world-class talent directly to Tulsa. Nationally touring musicians, comedians and high-profile sporting events fill the calendar year-round, all within a setting that delivers an up-close, electric experience that larger arenas simply cannot replicate.
The dining options are equally distinguished. Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Restaurant serves an extensive menu of island-inspired dishes and handcrafted cocktails in a vibrant, festive setting that transforms an ordinary dinner into a full occasion. Ruth’s Chris Steak House brings its signature USDA prime cuts, classic sides and an award-winning wine list to the resort, offering a polished dining experience backed by decades of culinary excellence.
For sports fans, Gridiron Sportsbar raises the standard for social dining and entertainment. A 53-foot LED video wall, the largest indoor screen in Oklahoma, anchors a lively space that also features TopGolf Swing Suites, a full bar and a hearty menu built for sharing. Bridging the gap between sports venue and social hub, Gridiron has earned its place as a sports-lovers staple within the resort.
For guests looking to close out the evening on a high note, 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar delivers live music daily. The bar’s energetic performances make it the kind of place that turns a great evening into an unforgettable one.
Owned and operated by Muscogee Nation Gaming Enterprises, River Spirit Casino Resort weaves tribal heritage into every element of a modern luxury experience, setting a standard that continues to define hospitality in Tulsa.

OKLAHOMA CITY'S PREMIER RESORT DESTINATION DEBUTS THE BOARDWALK, COMPLETES ITS DINING LINEUP, AND BRINGS AN ALL-NEW SEASON OF PROGRAMMING FOR 2026
After a landmark debut year, OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark is moving into summer 2026 with a sense of arrival, unveiling OKANA Beach, its new outdoor waterpark, and completing the vision of a fully realized, year-round destination. Situated in Oklahoma City’s Horizons District, OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chickasaw Nation, is a $400 million tourist destination that continues the momentum of economic development in Oklahoma City. The resort features an 11-story, 404-room hotel with luxurious accommodations, riverfront and lagoon views, and proximity to downtown Oklahoma City and the Boathouse District. A 4.5-acre outdoor adventure lagoon serves as the centerpiece of the property, complemented by a conference center,

indoor waterpark, family entertainment center, amphitheater and event lawn, retail shops, and multiple dining establishments. Located adjacent to First Americans Museum, OKANA also extends the museum’s programming and events while celebrating the heritage of First Americans through thoughtfully curated artwork displayed throughout the property.
For the first time since opening, guests will experience OKANA in its entirety, from the much-anticipated Boardwalk to all 14 dining venues, all operating throughout the summer season. The result is a campus that feels less like a resort and more like a self-contained summer district along the river.
“This summer is what we’ve been building toward,” said Gerson Velasquez, Managing Director of OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark. “With every restaurant open, The Boardwalk welcoming guests, and an extraordinary lineup of daily programming and special events, 2026 is the year OKANA becomes the complete destination we always envisioned.”
At the center of the season is OKANA Beach, where long summer days roll into curated nights and a full lineup of signature events brings rhythm to the waterfront.

The season opens with a Fourth of July Bash (July 4), a riverside celebration featuring live music, a drumline, games, drink specials, a hot dog eating contest, and fireworks over the river. Later in the month, National Waterpark Day (July 28) brings a more playful energy with a live DJ, giveaways, games, and a full-property celebration across both waterparks. The season closes with the Labor Day Bash (Sept. 5), a final weekend sendoff before OKANA Beach transitions out of summer mode.
Between marquee weekends, the calendar leans into weekly rituals that give the season its shape. Fridays bring Fire Shows at the Lagoon, where music, bubbles, and movement build into a live
fire performance and late-night dance party. Saturdays unfold through Saturdays at the Lagoon, a rotating series of themed poolside experiences — from nostalgic throwback sets to foamfilled afternoons and friendly competition in Lagoon Showdown.
On select nights, Salsa Nights transform the waterfront into an openair dance floor, while Pajama Storytime offers a softer cadence, a yearround evening ritual designed for families winding down the day.
Just steps from the water, The Boardwalk makes its full debut this summer, introducing a new layer to the OKANA experience,

From sun-soaked days at the waterpark to evenings on The Boardwalk, summer at OKANA is now open. Learn more or book your visit at okanaresort.com or call (800) 547-3928.

one that blends dining, entertainment, and wellness in a walkable district open to both resort guests and the broader Oklahoma City community.
The collection includes Smokehouse Social, a smokehouse-inspired restaurant with sports simulators and craft cocktails; Curveball Kitchen, a baseball simulator dining concept reimagining classic ballpark fare; Bullseye, an elevated 21+ entertainment venue featuring axe throwing, darts, and digital putt-putt; and The Spa at OKANA, a full-service wellness retreat focused on restoration and escape.
To encourage exploration, OKANA is also introducing The Boardwalk Passport, a curated path through each venue. Guests collect stamps along the way, and those who complete the journey receive a $50 resort credit, turning a visit into a small discovery experience across the property.
As summer unfolds, OKANA’s ambition is less about individual attractions and more about atmosphere — a place where water, dining, and entertainment begin to blend into one continuous experience of the season itself.
What ties the entire season together is the sense of movement across the property — from poolside afternoons that stretch into golden-hour gatherings, to evenings that spill naturally from waterfront energy into The Boardwalk’s walkable dining and entertainment district. The resort begins to function less as a collection of separate attractions and more as a continuous summer landscape, where guests can shape their own pace of the day.
Families drift between splash zones and storytime nights, while groups of friends settle into live music, themed pool parties, or late-night games under the lights. Even quieter moments — a spa treatment, a shaded lounge chair, a sunset walk along the water — feel intentionally woven into the larger rhythm of the season.

In a 2-ounce spray bottle, add the grain alcohol (or Solubol) and drop in essential oils. Swirl to combine. Place the cap back on the bottle. Allow the oils to disperse in the alcohol for about 1 hour, then add distilled water, swirling again to combine.
*The grain alcohol is used as a preservative as well as a carrier for the oils, but you can also use a product like this instead of grain alcohol at a 1:4 ratio (1 drop essential oil to 4 drops Solubol) if you’d rather and then just fill the rest with water to fill the 2-ounce spray bottle.
While there can be concern about citrus oils on the skin when exposed to sunlight, lemongrass isn’t a photosensitive oil, and if lemon essential oil is steam-distilled rather than cold-pressed (Oui Fresh essential oils are cold-pressed) it can be used on the skin. So just make sure to note which one your lemon oil is and only spray on clothes if you don’t have a skin-safe lemon oil (which is an application method a lot of people prefer anyway if they are more sensitive to oils).

As summer reaches its peak in Tulsa, the Tulsa Botanic Garden highlights seasonal plantings that reflect the height of the growing season across its grounds. July showcases heat-tolerant plants and curated garden displays that are designed to perform well in Oklahoma’s summer climate while providing visual interest throughout multiple garden areas.
At the entrance of the Garden, the Color Walk features rotating seasonal plantings. This area is updated throughout the year to reflect changing seasons and currently includes summer annuals and foliage selected for color and performance during warmer months. The plantings in this section are designed to provide a seasonal introduction to the Garden experience and change as the year progresses.
In the Children’s Discovery Garden, visitors can view a variety of summer-blooming plants. Hibiscus is among the featured blooms during this time of year, offering large flowers that thrive in heat. Liatris, also known as blazing star, is another plant highlighted in this area, providing vertical structure and seasonal color that continues through mid to late summer. These plantings are part of the seasonal design of the space and contribute to the overall summer display.
The Meadow section of the Garden features native and naturalized plantings that bloom throughout the summer season. During July, sunflowers and other native wildflowers begin to appear across the Meadow landscape. These plantings are part of the Garden’s broader focus on Oklahoma-adapted species and seasonal meadow design. The Meadow changes throughout the growing season as different plants reach peak bloom at different times.
In the Stream Valley area, buttonbush is one of the notable summer-blooming shrubs. Buttonbush produces spherical white flowers during the summer months, typically blooming through June and July. This plant is included in the Garden’s plant collection for its seasonal interest and ability to support pollinators.
Across the Garden, additional plantings such as salvias and other drought-tolerant or Oklahoma-adapted species continue to perform well during the heat of summer. These plants are used throughout various garden spaces to maintain seasonal color and structure during high temperatures and periods of lower rainfall. Their inclusion supports both the design and sustainability goals of the Garden’s plant collections.

Throughout July, the Tulsa Botanic Garden presents a range of seasonal displays that highlight plant performance during the summer months. Each garden area features plantings selected for this time of year, with emphasis on color, seasonal rotation, and adaptability to local climate conditions. Visitors can view how different plant collections change throughout the season as summer progresses.
The July season reflects the Garden’s ongoing focus on showcasing plants that thrive in Oklahoma conditions while offering a variety of textures, colors, and forms across its distinct garden spaces. From entrance plantings to meadow and streamside areas, each section contributes to the overall seasonal landscape.

Heather Broomhall is an artist and photographer whose works explore the intersection of beauty, identity, and the tension between who we are and who we are expected to be. “We don't change our lives by becoming someone else. We change our lives by becoming more fully ourselves,” says Broomhall.
With a background in fine art and fashion design at Central Saint Martins and Polimoda, Broomhall approaches photography as both a creative discipline and a study of self-discovery, often blending conceptual storytelling with a fashion-inspired twist.
Exploration has always been the foundation of her creative journey. Long before a subject sits in front of the camera, she is investigating ideas, emotions, and questions around identity. Her work often begins with a question rather than a final destination, exploring concepts from their earliest stages through final display. What has evolved over the last 27 years is a deeper study of the stories people carry, the roles they perform, and the influence of social expectations.

At the heart of her work is the belief that identity and beauty are not something to be achieved. This philosophy informs an ongoing exploration of self-perception, belonging, and the ways identity is shaped by culture, memory, fashion, and society.
Whether exploring a place, an idea, an expression, or identity itself, Broomhall's work invites viewers to look beyond the surface. From her newly opened portrait studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she continues to explore authenticity, perception, and what it means to truly be seen through portraits, branding imagery, and conceptual studies.
“Who are we when we stop performing? That is truly worth exploration,” says Broomhall.
