“AND I DON’T WANT ANOTHER PERSON TO HAVE TO SUFFER LIKE THIS, SO I APPLIED THAT NEXT SEMESTER TO CHIROPRACTIC SCHOOL.” lives are born out of moments of pain and adversity. Such was the case for Dr. Zach Thompson, the hands behind the healing at Within Chiropractic. Growing up playing baseball, basketball, football, wrestling, and even triathlons and powerlifting, his love and passion for sports led him to study exercise science in college. “I was really always about human performance and human wellness,” Zach says. “I went to college with the intention of becoming a strength and conditioning coach. I really enjoyed being in the weight room and seeing people get stronger.” And it was there in the weight room during Zach’s freshman year that his passion for health and wellness would quickly and unexpectedly be refocused in another direction. Squatting with the bar of weight, too much weight Zach

And about five months after the injury, I tried to get up off the couch and I couldn't move. I thought I was paralyzed, I legitimately could not move my legs.” Zach was able to get an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon the next morning, but the MRIs revealed no fractures, no discarnations, or anything that could be done surgically. “The surgeon told me that I had two options. I can either take this bottle of opiates, or I can go check out the chiropractor down the hall.” In only two weeks from his first chiropractic visit, Zach was free from the debilitating pain, able to walk, and able to sleep without the painkillers and CONTINUED >

Only this time with the same passion for health and wellness, but a newfound focus and direction. “I saw athletic trainers, I saw physical therapists, I saw basically everyone that I and my family knew of,” Zach explains. “Not only were they not able to help, but they also didn't have the same viewpoint as a chiropractor. And I don't want another person to have to suffer like this, so I applied that next semester to chiropractic school.” Not only does the amazing team at Within Chiropractic help people on an individual basis, but they also strive to help the community as a whole. “Giving back to a community that gives us so much is really, really important. Community service is really, really big for me.” Within Chiropractic offers monthly movement workshops to help the community with preventative, head to toe exercises and stretching techniques that can be done from anywhere. “Pain is unfortunately the last thing to show up
“GIVING BACK TO A COMMUNITY THAT GIVES US SO MUCH IS REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT. COMMUNITY SERVICE IS REALLY, REALLY BIG FOR ME.” and the first thing to go away. And so pain originates from a dysfunction occurring in the body. And so the goal is to not only correct the dysfunction, but also to prevent it and get you functioning at a higher level before it leads to pain. You don't need thousands of dollars of equipment to start to heal from the inside out. We help our clients suffering from chronic pain, frozen shoulder, migraines and headaches, low back pain, and those types of things because we do have an answer that is not found in the bottom of the pill bottle. And so, it’s equipping people with really getting back to the basics of health. I don't want to be the authority when it comes to health, I want you to be the authority of your health.”

Quick Fix to Healthy Weight Loss
ARTICLE BY INGRID FIORONI

EAT R IGH T | FO O D + BEVE RAGE
It’s that time of year when we are all seeing the advertisements of weight loss and getting rid of the extra pounds or starting new lifestyle changes. With so many options out there the question becomes, “Is there really a quick fix?” Many will tell you no, but after being in the health and wellness industry for over 15 years with my husband, The Nutrition Chef, and having seen so many different weight loss options that either our clients have tried, or that I have personally tried in my 52 years, I have come to the conclusion that there is a quick fix. The quick fix comes with the process of elimination of two key things: dairy and pesticides. I make it a point to not exactly include gluten-free items, because my personal belief is that it is the pesticides in our wheat product that are actually the culprit of many allergens that many people face. Dairy, which we of course find in so many foods, is a huge culprit in our quest to fight foods that cause inflammation. Pesticides are the other key culprit that have wreaked havoc on otherwise healthy foods such as whole grains. So your quick fix comes by simply eliminating dairy products and foods loaded with pesticides or genetically modified ingredients. In this day and age, label reading is essential to our health and longevity. We must remember that weight loss is not simply losing weight from fat, but can also come in the form of losing excess toxins in our body as well as excess water weight. This quick fix can come as simply as eliminating pesticides and dairy from our everyday diet. Furthermore, this does not have to be a New Year’s resolution, this can be a rest of your life solution!
GLUTEN FREE - DAIRY FREE AND NUT FREE - PESTO TURKEY MEATBALLS INGREDIENTS: For the Meatballs: • 1 lb organic ground turkey • 1/2 cup dairy-free pesto (see recipe below) • 1/2 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt • 1/4 teaspoon organic black pepper • For the Pesto: • 2 cups fresh organic basil leaves • 2 cloves organic garlic • 1/2 cup organic unrefined organic olive oil • pink Himalayan Salt and organic pepper to taste • * Blend thoroughly together* INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, dairy-free pesto, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated 3. Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet. 4. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and lightly browned on the outside. Serve the meatballs on a salad or favorite pasta with a generous dollop of your favorite Italian marinara or sauce (delicious on their own also). A nice spin on the dish is to top with a sweet chili sauce (pictured here is dollop of sweet chili sauce over gluten free rice noodles). The meatballs are versatile to use for an Italian or even Asian flavor.

PR E N ATA L and Postpartum FITNESS
TIPS FROM PERSONAL TRAINER BRITT FLEISCHER
ARTICLE BY BRITT FLEISCHER PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAMANTHA FARRIS
Hi, I'm Britt Fleischer—a mom, a wife, and a personal trainer in Keller, TX. I've been in the fitness industry for almost 7 years, and my passion for prenatal and postnatal training blossomed from my own transformative journey, navigating the ins and outs of pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Witnessing firsthand the changes in my body while expecting and the challenges of fitness after having my baby, I decided to specialize in guiding others through this phase of life. I want to offer insight and some helpful tips to any new or expecting mamas out there who want to get back into a fitness routine but don’t know where to start.

My best advice is to follow these three steps: 1. Diaphragmatic Breathing: Childbirth places significant strain on the body, particularly the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor. Diaphragmatic breathing engages these areas, aiding in their recovery and preventing issues like diastasis recti (separation of abdominal muscles) and pelvic floor dysfunction. 2. Listening to Your Body: There is a generalized 6-week baseline that doctors and midwives adhere to when they “release” mom’s to resume normal activity after birth. As we know, our bodies cannot be generalized and for some women this might feel too early to begin working out again, and that’s okay. It’s important to get a doctor’s clearance, however, you should ultimately make the decision when it feels right for you.
“Remember, this phase in your life is a beautiful journey, one that might take some time to adjust, as you navigate the joys and challenges of many postpartum experiences.” Remember, this phase in your life is a beautiful journey, one that might take some time to adjust, as you navigate the joys and challenges of many postpartum experiences. Never feel hesitant to ask for help and seek advice within the community of fellow mothers who understand and empathize with your journey. You got this!
3. Starting Slow: Pregnancy and childbirth can put significant stress on the body. Slowly starting with small movements allows your body to gradually rebuild strength and endurance without risking overexertion or injury. Your muscles, joints, and tissues need time to heal properly.

the BENEFITS OF PLANT-BASED EATING ARTICLE BY CLAUDIA MARTIN AYOADE PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES
Most people think a plant-based diet is strictly for those vegan and vegetarian types, but there is no debating the overwhelming evidence showing the benefits of improved health for those who make that diet choice. Plant-based eating is more of a lifestyle than a diet. You are simply eating more foods that are closer to their harvested state with minimal processing. CONTINUED >

Meatless diets have been shown to improve health outcomes by lowering the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, inflammation, and some cancers. It also improves gut health because of added fiber to your diet. A plant-based diet still allows to you consume the carbohydrates, protein, fats, minerals and vitamins that are necessary for good health, with the added benefits of being higher in fiber and phytonutrients. You do not have to give up meat entirely and there are labels to identify where you fall in your plant eating journey. Do what is comfortable for you so you will stick with it. You can choose to be a flexitarian which mean you occasionally eat meat but you choose plants as the primary foods you eat. You have some flexibility with your diet. If you choose to be a vegetarian, then you do not eat meats but you still eat eggs and dairy products as opposed to being a vegan who eats no animal products. There is also another reason to add more fruits and vegetables to your daily food intake; It is better for the environment. The industries that produce our dairy and meats is said to account for a third of the world’s water usage in addition to producing greenhouse gas emissions. Eat your greens and save the planet!
TIPS TO GET STARTED ON YOUR PLANT-BASED JOURNEY: 1. Make small changes to test your comfort level when reducing meat intake. There is a risk of being overwhelmed if you suddenly stop eating meat altogether, and it will be harder stick to your choice long term. Increase consumption of plant foods you already like. 2. A plant-based diet does not mean boring! You can create a variety of dishes, including ethnic meals that are meat free and delicious. This is a great time to try new spices to add a punch to your vegetables and add green leafy vegetables to your smoothies. 3. Use the whole plant because there are nutrients in every part of the plant, including the stems and leaves. Use the leaves from celery, radishes, beets and carrots and use the stems from spinach. Don’t throw away vital nutrients like potassium, vitamin C and fiber. You are also reducing waste. 4. Eat the rainbow! Choose different colored fruits and vegetables to get a variety of nutrients. The color of plant-based foods is often an indicator of the vitamins and minerals they contain. So, more colors mean more nutrients. Example: Orange foods contain beta carotene, the precursor for vitamin A. 5. If you do not eat animal products, you will need to take a B12 and possibly an iron supplement. Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin available only in animal products. Low B12 can cause anemia and damage to the nervous system. Some vegan foods are fortified with vitamin B12. 6. A meat-free diet does not automatically mean healthy if you replace the meat with highly processed junk food and meat substitutes. You need to eat fresh quality fruits, vegetables and grains to get the health benefits that can add years to your life.

Would you like to know for sure how healthy your child’s nervous system is? That’s where the breakthrough Insight Scanning technology comes in. Scanning detects hidden patterns of damaging stress, tracks changes and then observes scans for improving trends by measuring HRV, EMG, and Thermography. It’s safe for kids & infants, takes 3 minutes, and will give you a visual report that will show you exactly where there is resolvable dysfunction in the nervous system that may be hurting your child’s ability to respond to stress and stimulus. You would not believe the miraculous stories we hear from parents when they see their kid improving, adapting, & growing… AND they can visually see the changes in the re-scans!
