An inspirational man has the incredible power and privilege of shaping and mentoring the young people in their lives to grow and mature in a multitude of ways.
Whether they are a father, a coach, an uncle or a boss, being a role model and leading by example can make a lasting impact on those watching. We can all probably think of a man in our life that has had a big impact on us at one time or another. Whether it was someone pushing us to be a better version of ourselves, or someone who sees the best in us, or someone we look up to for guidance, or perhaps someone we don’t personally know but that inspires us by their greatness, we can recognize the impact these role models can make our lives.
This month we are honoring men and their contribution to the betterment of our community. We are highlighting men who put themselves second, work hard and inspire others to do the same. To all of the men out there that are making a difference in someone’s life, big or small, we applaud you. The lasting impact that you are making and the ripple effect that often ensues is worth it.

Behind the scenes of HGTV No Demo Reno
For fans of the popular TV series No Demo Reno, HGTV’s recent announcement of 12 new episodes for a third season that are set to premiere this summer means they can look forward to propping their feet up while cozying up on the couch with their favorite snack or beverage. But for Victor Manta, the owner of Manta Construction, the announcement means it's time to put on his boots, roll up his sleeves, and get to work. If you’ve ever seen the show, it’s hard to miss the host, social-media star and self-proclaimed “Rambling Redhead” Jennifer Todryk, as she goes about helping residents here in the DFW Metroplex renovate their homes without doing any major demolition. The show has been a huge hit for HGTV, bringing in over 18.4 million viewers during its second season, which ranks in the top 3 non-news/sports cable program among its key viewer demographics. For Todryk, who has an internet blog, book, and an Instagram account that boasts over one
million followers, being in the public eye is nothing new. But for Victor, the journey to appearing on television screens all across the country was not as obvious of a path.
Born in Brazil, where he also spent the early part of his childhood, Victor’s family came stateside where he graduated from high school and began working as a pharmacy technician. Victor’s father was in construction, primarily commercial hospitality and hotel construction. Victor says his father was very good with his hands and the physical aspect of the construction business but was often frustrated with the back office part of the business. As a result, Victor began helping his father with the paperwork and employee part of the company while also keeping his job at the pharmacy and starting pre-med school to pursue a degree in neuroscience. Realizing he was stretching himself too thin, Victor decided to leave his job at the pharmacy but continue working for his
dad and still going to school. In July 2015, Victor and his wife Jacqueline were married and his studies and classes started demanding more of his time and focus, Victor says that they made the decision for him to stop working with his dad also in order to be able to finish med school. “I’ve been working full time since I was seventeen and I wasn’t used to allowing someone else to be responsible for everything - for the bills and the mortgage and everything. That was very difficult for me to do.” Soon after, Victor found himself at a crossroads with his pursuit of becoming a doctor. Unsure if he should continue and push forward with his studies, Victor says he prayed and asked God to open up doors and show him the path that he needed to take. Those open doors turned out to be leaving pre-med school and going to work full-time with his dad in the construction business. “I had never just worked with my dad, without any other jobs or school work to distract me,” Victor says.

“MY PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IS ESSENTIAL. I DON’T SEPARATE THE WAY I RUN MY BUSINESS FROM MY PERSONAL FAITH AND CHRISTIAN VALUES.”
When his father retired, Victor took over the business, but makes sure to keep his family and his faith at the center of everything. “My personal relationship with God is essential. I don’t separate the way I run my business from my personal faith and Christian values. The road has not been smooth, we have had things like clients that ended up not paying after we completed a job, to employee issues like every small business goes through. But we have managed to stay afloat through all of the hard times, and God has blessed us and opened many doors for us to be where we are today.” The opportunity to appear on No Demo Reno came about when a house cleaner overheard a conversation between HGTV producers about needing another general contractor. The house cleaner told her friend, who was the cousin of one of Victor’s employees, and the rest as they say, is history. During season one of No Demo Reno, Victor never appeared on screen, but was one of the general contractors who did renovation projects for the show. Last year, when it came time to film season two, Victor says the show’s producers wanted to split the part of the on camera general contractor between himself and carpenter David Piper. However, very shortly before filming began, David had to back out leaving only Victor and Manta Construction left with the role. When the show’s producers told Victor they were looking for a replacement for David, Victor saw the open door and welcomed the opportunity. Victor told them they didn’t need to find another general contractor for the show, but that he would do all of the episodes. Manta Construction continues to be the exclusive contractor for No Demo Reno during season three, with the episodes currently being filmed.
But just because Victor and Manta Construction are featured on an HGTV show, doesn’t mean that you can’t hire them for your home remodeling job yourself! Victor says that he wants to be sure that our readers know that Manta Construction is local and currently taking on new full-house renovations, adding additions to existing homes, high-end kitchen or bathroom projects, as well as restorations for water or fire damage. And with the rapid pace of rising home prices and property taxes, Victor says more and more DFW homeowners are researching and discovering that home renovations and additions are more budget-friendly than purchasing a different home because you don’t lose the equity that you have worked so hard to build up over the years. In fact, in a lot of cases, homeowners can use their existing equity that they have built up over the years as collateral to finance full home renovations and additions.
And as seen on TV, Manta Construction’s clients can be sure that the same quality of work and attention to detail that is used on the show will be used on your personal home project as well. Details that can be seen in every facet of Victor’s life. With a successful construction business that demands his attention, as well as the added scheduling demands of a popular television show, Victor reminds himself that his first priority is to his loving wife and their three kids, including a son just a couple of months old. “In all the work I've done over my career, nothing has compared to building a strong family.” And that’s a foundation worth building on.

FIREFIGHTER TRAIN LIKE fitness: the bravest

Firefighters are the epitome of strength and resilience, facing physically demanding challenges regularly. We had the privilege of getting the inside look at how our very own firefighters, Trophy Club's finest, train to stay ready. In this article, we will explore a range of exercises that target key muscle groups, enhance endurance, and improve overall fitness levels. By incorporating these exercises into their training routines, firefighters can enhance their performance and ensure they are always prepared to protect and serve their communities.
PUSH-UP: Building Upper Body Strength
A classic exercise that targets the chest, shoulders, and arms, the push-up is a staple for firefighter fitness. Here's how to perform a proper push-up:
1. Start on the floor, positioning your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
2. Keep your abs contracted and core engaged.
3. Lower your body by bending your elbows until your arms are at a 90-degree angle.
4 . Exhale as you push back up, engaging your chest muscles.
BOX STEP-UP: Strengthening Lower Body and Balance
Firefighters often encounter uneven terrain and must climb ladders or steps. The box step-up exercise helps improve lower body strength and balance. Here's how to perform it:
1. Place one foot on top of a box or step with the other foot on the ground.
2. Shift your weight into the heel of the foot on the box.
3 . Extend your leg straight before bringing the opposite foot onto the box.
4. Focus on a slow descent to ensure proper joint loading and muscle engagement.
21 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/TROPHYWEST JUNE 2023
CRUNCH: Developing Core Stability
Core Strength is crucial for firefighters, as it supports stability and prevents injuries. The crunch exercise targets the abdominal muscles effectively. Here's how to perform it:
1. Lie down on your back with your knees bent and feet lifted off the ground.
2. Place your arms across your chest.
3. Contract your abs and inhale.
4. Exhale as you lift your upper body, keeping your head and neck relaxed.
5. Inhale and return to the starting position.
OVERHEAD PRESS: Building Upper Body Strength and Stability
The overhead press exercise strengthens the shoulders, arms, and upper back while improving stability. Here's how to perform it:
1. Stand with an item in front of your chest, hands on either side.
2. Press the item over your head until it is balanced over your shoulders and mid-foot.
3. Lock your elbows at the top and shrug your shoulders to engage the upper back muscles.
CURLS: Strengthening the Arms
Strong arms are essential for firefighters, especially when carrying heavy equipment. Curls target the biceps and forearm muscles. Here's how to perform them:
1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart.
2. Hold a kettlebell in your hands with your arms relaxed in front of your body.
3. Keep your upper arms stable and shoulders relaxed.
4. Exhale as you bend your elbows, lifting the weights toward your shoulders.
5. Lower the weights to the starting position
BATTLE ROPES:
Offer an intense full-body workout that improves cardiovascular endurance, strength, and coordination. Among the various battle rope exercises, the alternating waves exercise is a dynamic movement that engages multiple muscle groups while increasing heart rate.

MASTERING THE VIEUX CARRÉ COCKTAIL

PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHE’S MY SKY PHOTOGRAPHY
Swanky gold chain curtains suspended from the ceiling surround a velvet sofa seating area. Decorative globe chandeliers dimly illuminate the space above comfy leather club chairs and a grand velvet-clad VIP banquette with a neon sign welcoming guests to “Make pour decisions.” It’s a vibe commonly found only in an urban nightlife scene, but with the new Social Oak Wine & Whiskey Lounge opening in Trophy Club, it’s a golf cart ride away.
Social Oak Wine & Whiskey Lounge is a 21-and-up chic, upscale lounge with a cool speakeasy vibe located in the heart of Trophy Club at the Trophy Club Town Center. With 56 wines and 28 whiskeys by the pour (choose from an ounce to a glass) on stateof-the-art dispensing machines, over 250 wines by the bottle from around the world, 100+ whiskeys at their full bar, and enticing shareable plates, Social Oak offers guests a unique upscale wine and whiskey experience like no other.
“During my travels, I had stumbled upon some amazing wine bars, and there was one in particular that had the wine pouring machines,” Social Oak owner Vinh Le says of the inspiration behind the concept. “I fell in love with the social aspect of walking up to the machines and talking to people about the wines. I loved trying a small pour before committing to a full glass or bottle. I chose to open the first location in Trophy Club because we have so many sophisticated wine and whiskey drinkers in the area, and it’s hard to find an upscale lounge for adults only without having to drive to Dallas or Fort Worth.”

You’ll find bar manager Chris Koegle slinging drinks in his dapper attire at their full bar. Cocktails range from a classic Old Fashioned to an eclectic Black Dahlia. For our readers, Chris shares one of his favorite drinks, the Vieux Carré. A bold drink born in New Orleans’ legendary Carousel Bar.
Vieux Carré
INGREDIENTS
• 2 dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters
• 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
• ¼ oz Simple Syrup
• ½ oz Antica Sweet Vermouth
• 1 ¼ oz Rye – Sazerac
• 1 ¼ oz Cognac – Hennessey
• ¼ oz Dom Benedictine
• 1 Lemon Rind
INSTRUCTIONS
• Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and stir with ice.
• Strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube.
• Garnish with Lemon Rind.
The Vieux Carré cocktail is a classic, bold drink that impresses any whiskey or cocktail enthusiast. This drink is sophisticated and complex, perfectly balancing rye, cognac, and sweet vermouth. The addition of Peychaud’s and Angostura bitters, along with a hint of Dom Benedictine and a lemon rind garnish, elevates the flavors and aroma of the drink. Whether you want to impress guests at a party or enjoy a drink on a quiet evening, the Vieux Carré is a recipe worth trying.
“I fell in love with the social aspect of walking up to the machines and talking to people about the wines.”
