FIFA WORLD CUP 2026
ONCE IN A GENERATION MOMENT
GOOOAAALLLL! The Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex is one of eleven cities in the United States selected to host the FIFA World Cup 2026™. This month, nine soccer matches, including a semifinal, will be played at AT&T Stadium, temporarily called Dallas Stadium.
Beginning on June 11, 2026, the FIFA World Cup 2026™ will welcome fans from all over the world for FIFA’s most historic tournament. This marks the second time the Metroplex has hosted FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). The first was 32 years ago. In 1994, the World Cup came to the United States for the first time, hosting six matches in Dallas. It also served as the headquarters for the International Broadcast Center, where the entire tournament was transmitted across the globe.
Since 1994, soccer’s popularity in DFW has continued to grow. The region is now the second largest youth soccer community in the United States, with more than 200,000 youth athletes playing in the area. In addition, the U.S. Youth Soccer headquarters is located in Dallas. Dallas is also the fifth largest media market in the country, making it a logical choice to once again serve as the home of the International Broadcast Center. The Metroplex also boasts outstanding venues such as AT&T Stadium, Fair Park, and Toyota Stadium, home of FC Dallas, making DFW the perfect location.
The FIFA World Cup takes place from June 11 through July 19, 2026. During this time, fans will enjoy the ultimate experience at the FIFA Fan Festival™ at Fair Park, home of the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. This free event will include live match broadcasts, concerts, games, food, and family friendly fun. Attendees can experience interactive games, giveaways, and contests from corporate partners and host city supporters. Families and children can also participate in the Mini Pitch and Skills Zone, filled with contests, pickup games, and drills to enhance their skills. With an estimated 35,000 to 100,000 fans in attendance, the FIFA Fan Festival™ is the place to be if you cannot attend a match.
“The World Cup is a once in a generation moment, and through the North Texas Sports Foundation, we are turning this moment into a lasting legacy by investing in our communities through safe places to play, public art, sustainability, and programs that expand access and opportunity, ensuring the impact of 2026 is felt for generations,” said Jaime Cabrera, Donor Relations, North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee.
The influence will be felt across DFW. Teams will train and stay at four base camps, which serve as the primary training and headquarters for participating teams throughout the tournament. These locations range from Mansfield to Frisco, including Toyota Stadium, Southern Methodist University, the Cotton Bowl, and Mansfield Stadium.
Hosting World Cup teams is great news for cities with a strong soccer presence. Frisco, for example, is home to FC Dallas, a member of Major League Soccer. The club moved to Frisco with the opening of Toyota Stadium in 2005 and is currently undergoing a multimillion dollar renovation and expansion.
Celina is another community heavily influenced by soccer. This past spring, the Celina High School women’s soccer team made Texas history by winning its fifth consecutive state championship. The soccer legacy is strong and growing in Celina.
Earlier this year, Celina was also introduced to Rodeo Soccer Club, a professional men’s team joining United Soccer League League One, a growing league in the third tier of professional soccer. Rodeo SC is sanctioned as a Division III team by the U.S.
Soccer Federation. Its inaugural season will begin in 2027, and it is an affiliate of Texoma FC.
Texoma FC is a semi professional club that competes in USL League Two. The team is based in Sherman along the Texas and Oklahoma border. It is currently enjoying its second season with strong success.
“The World Cup has always marked a turning point for soccer in the United States. In 1994, it helped launch professional soccer as we know it today. In 2026, with the scale, visibility, and infrastructure now in place, it has the potential to push the sport from steady growth into the mainstream,” said Ben Watson, former professional soccer player from Celina and Sherman, Texas, and founder of Rodeo Soccer Club and Texoma FC.
Watson continues, “For North Texas, this is about more than hosting matches. It is a catalyst for long term growth. With millions of visitors expected and billions in economic impact, the 2026 World Cup will elevate the game across our region and across the country. Most importantly, it will inspire the next generation of players, fans, and communities who will carry soccer forward long after the tournament ends.”
Held every four years, the FIFA World Cup is the largest and most prestigious soccer tournament in the world. National teams from across the globe compete for the title of world champion. The tournament is projected to generate a 1.5 to 2.5 billion dollar economic impact for the DFW Metroplex. It will be the largest tournament in FIFA history, featuring 48 teams and 104 total matches, with Dallas hosting the most games of any host city.

A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?
A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”
Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?

MASTERKEY MINISTRIES PROVIDES SUPPORT AND SOLUTIONS FOR FAMILIES IN TEXOMA

In today’s economy, many families and individuals find themselves in unfamiliar financial territory. Living in financial hardship can be a lonely journey, and help is often challenging to find. Fortunately, Texoma residents have options when help is needed. Food assistance and educational opportunities are among the most frequently requested services from area charities. The Texoma area is fortunate to have a strong nonprofit organization that helps families and individuals meet those needs. MasterKey Ministries of Grayson County, Inc. offers assistance in these areas and much more.
MasterKey Ministries of Grayson County, Inc. was founded in 2009 by Julie Rickey. Rickey, the director of MasterKey Ministries, was a single mother of seven children who recognized the need for a faithbased organization that provides support services for those impacted by financial hardship. Since the organization was founded, many new services have been added to assist those working to improve their circumstances.
Rickey says that to be successful in helping people, programs must reach individuals on multiple levels. “We have to first ask, ‘What can we do today?’ And how do we address the hunger and care needs of people right now? One of the biggest issues is that parents are often in need of quality preschool and after-school care.”
Melinda McMillan, marketing director for MasterKey Ministries, says the MasterKey Academy was created to meet that need. “We provide quality care and educational experiences for children ages three months to five years through our preschool program. We also offer a wonderful after-school program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, where we provide structure, homework help, fun activities, snacks, and outdoor activities. I can see how this ministry truly works. We have to realize
this is a mission field and outreach. We want to make preschool and after-school education affordable for families in need and offer great experiences with quality care and education.”
Childcare is just one of the needs, says Rickey. “Families need food as well, and it can be expensive to provide quality meals for those with limited income and resources.” MasterKey Ministries’ Food Assistance program provides an assortment of nutritious foods, including meats and dairy products, breads, and canned goods to help feed families in need.
Food is distributed weekly on Fridays at Harvest Time Church, 222 S. Heritage Parkway in Sherman, and Saturdays at MasterKey Ministries, 209 S. Heritage Parkway in Sherman. Food pickup is from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on both days.
“Getting Ahead” and “Staying Ahead” are two programs that MasterKey Ministries offers to educate, assist, and prepare participants for the journey of improving their lives. Participants learn life skills such as understanding the causes of poverty, managing housing costs, navigating income levels, stabilizing personal situations, and identifying available community resources. Rickey says that in addition to these important elements, faith and fellowship are also essential.
“Even though we help our participants find the keys to surviving and even thriving, learning about our faith, learning to trust in God, and fellowship help us use these keys to open and walk through the door to success. It is exciting to hear the success stories from individuals and families who have gone through our sixteen-week courses and to celebrate their success with them.”

Texoma’s Hot Spot for Casual Dining
If you’ve ever traveled down Texoma Parkway, you’ve likely noticed the busy parking lot on the east side of the road near the border of Denison and Sherman. Cars fill every available space around a quaint building marked City Limits, leaving many to wonder what keeps the place so consistently crowded.
Opened in 1982, City Limits is a family-owned and operated restaurant and a longtime Texoma favorite. Co-owner Shelley Callahan says that family ownership makes all the difference. “You don’t have the franchise mentality here. Because we’re family-owned, we get to set our own menu based on what our customers want, and everything is made fresh.” Shelley, along with Denny, Kip, Lori, and Mary Jane, share in the daily operations of the restaurant. “We’re blessed to be able to do this. We see a lot of repeat customers, and even generations of
families who continue to dine with us. Kids who once came in car seats are now grown and bringing their own children to continue the tradition.”
When asked what makes City Limits so popular, Callahan didn’t hesitate. “People come here and feel comfortable, like they do at home.” During a visit, it’s common to see owners and staff greeting regulars with hugs and a level of familiarity often reserved for family. Callahan adds, “Yes, you’ll see a little controlled chaos, but it’s the kind you’d find at a family gathering during Thanksgiving or Christmas. There’s still a small-town mentality here, and I think our customers appreciate feeling welcome and comfortable. We focus on great customer service and building genuine connections with our guests.”

Denison’s Rise Aviation recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at North Texas Regional Airport, bringing together local, regional, and state stakeholders, community leaders, elected officials, and other dignitaries. According to a press release, the event marks the start of construction on a new 63,100-square-foot hangar complex, further expanding aviation infrastructure and supporting continued economic growth in Grayson County and the North Texas region. This development represents a significant
investment in the airport’s capabilities, strengthening its role as a strategic gateway for business aviation and regional connectivity.
Mike Livezey, vice president and general manager of Rise Aviation, attended the ceremony and shared remarks on the milestone. “This is a great day. It has taken almost three years to get here. Once this one is built, we will begin construction on another hangar. We don’t want to build just one and be done.” Livezey, who has been with Rise Aviation for eight and a half years, has deep ties to the Texoma area. “Fifty-three years ago, I attended Grayson College. Now, all these years later, I have come back. I plan to retire here. When this project is finished, I will step back.” He expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, adding, “We have done something that will benefit the entire community, now and in the future.”

North Texas Regional Airport sits on the former site of Perrin Air Force Base. Established in 1941 as a training site for World War II pilots, the facility played an important role in preparing military aviators until its closure in 1971.
