HOME WITH LAINIE Meet Lainie Ramsey: Realtor, Hometown Resident, & Community Leader
ARTICLE BY SHARLA DAVENPORT | PHOTOGRAPHY BY HOMESTEAD IMAGERY
Community matters. A simple phrase that resonates with Lainie Ramsey. Lainie Ramsey is a lifelong resident of Pottsboro, a town that matters to her. Lainie moved to Pottsboro as a toddler. After graduating, she started her career in real estate, her profession for over twenty-two years. To say that Lainie knows real estate in the Texoma area is an understatement, as she has spent her life living in the area and knowing the land around it. As business owner of Homes By Lainie Real Estate Group, it is obvious that Lainie is very involved serving and giving back to the city. She has been an active member of the Pottsboro Chamber of Commerce as a director for ten years and the president for the last four. Lainie and other members strive to connect businesses with the people that live
in the area. Lainie says, “We do really well at that.” She continues, “In fact, that’s how I grew my business personally.” Lainie believes the Chamber does an excellent job informing citizens and businesses with what is going on in the area, especially with the ever-changing growth of the region. “They are in the know of all that is going on." To prove that point, the Chamber started using the hashtag, #communitymatters in it's marketing. This is to illustrate the Chamber’s focus on local businesses. Lainie likes that the Chamber concentrates on ways to improve and make the community better. Most recently, Lainie was elected to Pottsboro City Council, a new task for her. She ran for council in part to help address the city’s substantial growth headed to the Texoma region. “While I know growth is CONTINUED >

inevitable, we have a unique opportunity to manage the growth the way we want.” One of her goals is to help the city create a comprehensive plan as well as an impact fee study. She is working with city staff to help get grants for these items. According to Lainie, many towns have the fees “fall on the backs of citizens” instead of the developers and she wants it to be the opposite. She wants Pottsboro to be there to help and structure the growth that will fit the city best. “We are a lake community, a vacation destination city, and we love what we represent,” Lainie proudly states. This is what she loves most about her hometown, the lake. It is a relaxing travel destination, but also a place to live that is close to the DFW Metroplex while maintaining a country feel. “We get to live where most people vacation,” exclaims Lainie. And speaking of living in Pottsboro, Lainie still maintains it is a good time to buy a home. Home prices are expected to go up in the next three years. However, Lainie says there is good news -- you do not have to fight people for a contract and pay way over asking price like in previous years. You don’t have to fight, now you can negotiate. While interest rates are currently high, you can always refinance later. Her real estate company, Homes by Lainie, focuses on marketing locally using an aggressive open house narrative. She believes open houses are the best way to present a home at it's finest, to greet visitors, and to answer any questions from the buyer. Besides serving on the Chamber and the City Council, Lainie also serves her community by giving back to various local charities. She volunteers with the Sandy's Feral Fun, Grayson Children’s Advocacy Center, and other area nonprofits. She feels it is important to give back in her hometown that has given her so much. When Lainie is not working, you can find her and her family, plus her four dogs, at the lake. If she is not at the lake, she’s “the best cheer aunt” supporting her niece. After all, community isn’t the only thing that matters to Lainie, her family does too. Homes By Lainie Real Estate Group HomesByLainie.com 903-624-0688

WITH A CALLING TO SERVE Scott Snellings of Snellings Injury Law Giving Back
To give back or serve one another is a calling for most people. Scott Snellings knows that perhaps better than anyone. A life altering event forever changed Scott’s outlook, literally on life, and serving others around him.
Born in Lubbock but grew up in Plano, Scott went to Baylor University with the goal to be a medical doctor. But, he says, his grades and life dictated otherwise. A friend’s dad who was a famous attorney mentored Scott and gave him an internship. During that time, he helped the daughters of a family killed in an accident. That experience showed Scott how injury lawyers can really help people thus changing his career path. He ultimately graduated from Baylor Law where he practiced at firms in Dallas and then McKinney for nine years. In 2017, he decided to open Snellings Law when he learned of a health issue requiring him to have a kidney transplant.
“Now I think ‘Am I living the example I want to live and am called to live?’ Having that gift really showed me I must use each day to make this world a better place and honor Jacob.”

A major “perspective shifter”, Scott was fortunate to have his best friend, Jacob Thompson, be a match and kidney donor. Scott says, “Talk about giving back. Jacob sacrificed a kidney for me, while his wife was eight months pregnant!” Understandably, this event forever changed him. Now, Scott looks at each day as an opportunity to honor that gift. He adds, “Now I think ‘Am I living the example I want to live and am called to live?’ Having that gift really showed me I must use each day to make this world a better place and honor Jacob.” Scott knows it sounds trite but also realizes service does not have to be momentous but should “move the ball” each day. As a result, the firm’s employees meet monthly to plan service projects. With offices in Frisco and Sherman, and with Scott living between in Celina, the group focuses on helping these areas. For example, he cites the firm’s help to Reba’s Ranchhouse (yes, that Reba) near Sherman. The firm donated much needed equipment aiding mothers of newborns, the elderly, and families of people in the local hospital. One family impacted was an employee of Scott’s. Her grandmother stayed at the facility while her grandfather was hospitalized. "It was a benefit to witness the helping first-hand," he notes. The law firm also sponsors area organizations like Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County, ManeGait Therapeutic Horsemanship, first responder groups, and local education foundations and food banks. In addition, Scott gives to the National Kidney Foundation, obviously something very personal to him. CONTINUED >

The Snellings Law Firm markets itself as the injury law firm with heart, and Scott understands the irony. He maintains there are more good injury lawyers than bad, and he sees more people in the profession who care. “I see a bunch of people with acts of giving and sharing,” Scott says. “We work and live by the core values of the communities we serve. We live here and part of that is to give back.” Scott continues, “We think it is important to give back to our community when they give so much to us.” Snellings Law has an office in Sherman and is headquartered in Frisco. Scott has “kinfolk” in Sherman where he spent many a holiday. He loved walking downtown and even boasts he shot his first shotgun outside of Sherman. The country roads are also where he learned to drive. He wanted to open an office in Sherman because it is still a “small, big town” with outstanding, big-hearted people. Having law offices in Frisco and Sherman and living in Celina is the best of all worlds. He and his wife, Sara, and their three kids have lived in the area for three years. Living in the middle allows Scott to serve those communities. From working to help others who are suffering from injuries, to aiding nonprofits and volunteering, he knows his calling is now to serve. To Scott Snellings as a beneficiary of the best gift of all, life, there is no other option.

Giving Campaign
2023 30
G IV IN G BAC K | L IFE + CULTURE
“
This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”
The annual City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is in its 4th year. Last holiday season we gave away over $300,000 to help 116 individuals and families in need, but we need your help to make it happen again this year. With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you know of a single parent struggling to provide for their family, an elderly person who has experienced loss, someone enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need, even if no one else does. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them during this holiday season.” “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success, so we in turn want to be a blessing to others,” Matthew Perry, President of City Lifestyle adds. City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep giving on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is truly rewarding and it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster a culture of generosity.”

Hi! I am Barbara Ireland, publisher/owner of Celina Lifestyle and Texoma City Lifestyle. I am a 5th generation Dallasite who loves all things Texan - people, places, traditions. That includes my husband, Roger (born in Fort Worth), who is joining our City Lifestyle team on this journey in Texoma as Area Director, and our two kids (Dallasites), Preston and Pene Laine, who inspire me daily. I love traveling abroad, reading historical fiction, and hiking in the mountains. I love a warm cup of coffee, a good book, and a cozy cafe. I am excited to highlight all of the people, local businesses, and events that make Texoma so special. 01 Spending time with my beautiful (and tall!) family // 02 A glass of red with a little nosh from Stafford House Provisions // 03 Hiking the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We have a log cabin there where we unplug and reconnect with nature. // 04 Tucking into a book at Cafe Blackbird. I carry one with me wherever I go. // 05 Coffee! Any kind, anytime, anywhere. // 06 Dinner with friends. Whether it’s a local steakhouse or around the kitchen table, I love good conversation and good times!
