LIFESTYLE LETTER
Beyond the Trends Style is often mistaken for what's new. The newest trend. The newest color palette. The newest way of doing something. But the more I thought about this issue, the more I realized real style has very little to do with what's new. It's the thread that remains long after trends have faded. It's the collection of pieces, places, and traditions that continue to feel like us, year after year. Some of the most meaningful things in our lives weren't chosen because they were fashionable. They became meaningful because they were there. Around the dinner table where stories were shared. Beneath tiny feet taking their first steps. In the chair where a grandparent always sat. In the ring that's been passed from one generation to the next. Their value wasn't created in a single moment. It grew over time. The things we choose to keep have a remarkable way of holding our stories. They witness birthdays and quiet mornings, holiday gatherings, and ordinary Tuesdays. They become part of family traditions, milestones, and everyday routines. Eventually, they stop feeling like possessions and begin feeling like pieces of home. Maybe that's why the most timeless things rarely demand our attention. They simply endure. As you flip through this month's issue, I hope you'll find yourself looking beyond what's fashionable and appreciating what lasts. Whether it's a thoughtfully designed space, a meaningful heirloom, or an object with a story all its own, the things that stay with us are often the ones that quietly shape our lives. In a world that constantly encourages us to move on to the next thing, perhaps there's something worth celebrating about the things we choose to hold onto. After all, style isn't just about how we express ourselves today. It's about creating a life whose story is worth telling for years to come. With Gratitude,

Step inside Dealer's Depot Antique Mall in Tempe, and it's easy to think you're browsing antiques. Stay a little longer, and you realize you're walking through hundreds of ordinary lives. Every object is a quiet witness to them. Every aisle is filled with objects that were never meant to become collectibles. A camera that documented birthdays, vacations, and first days of school. A sewing machine that hemmed Sunday dresses and patched worn knees. A radio that once filled a living room with evening news and baseball games. Books whose pages softened beneath the hands of generations of readers as they traveled from one bookshelf to another, collecting fingerprints and folded corners along the way. None of these things were created to become collectibles; they were made to be lived with. Maybe that's why they still feel so alive. Somewhere along the way, we've become comfortable replacing things before they have the chance to become part of our story. We upgrade our phones every few years. Clothes come and go with the seasons. Thousands of photographs disappear into cloud storage, rarely revisited. We own more than ever before, yet somehow fewer of our possessions feel destined to outlive us. A vintage camera quietly reminds us of that. There was a time when every photograph required intention. Film was limited, and every press of the shutter carried weight because there wasn't another hundred chances waiting behind it. Families gathered because someone believed the moment

deserved preserving. Ironically, many of the photographs we treasure most came from a time when there was only one opportunity to get them right. Nearby, an old sewing machine sits with its gold lettering softened by decades of use. It's easy to admire its craftsmanship, but what lingers is the thought of the hands that guided fabric beneath its needle. Before clothing became disposable, garments were mended, altered, and handed down. The beauty wasn't simply in what was made; it was in the care taken to make it last. Even the smallest objects seem to carry the strongest memories. The faint scent of an empty cologne bottle lingers and somehow feels deeply personal, as though the person who wore it hasn’t entirely left. Scent has always possessed an unusual ability to transport us. It brings us back to a grandmother's vanity, a holiday gathering, an embrace that happened decades ago. Some memories don't arrive through photographs at all. They return with a single breath. The same quiet permanence lives inside an old radio. Before every room had its own screen, families gathered around one voice. Music wasn't background noise; it was an event. News wasn't consumed in passing; it was shared. Nearby, a row of weathered books tells a similar story. Their worn bindings, folded corners, and penciled notes aren't imperfections. They're evidence that someone loved them enough to leave a trace behind. Perhaps that's what draws us to places like this. Not nostalgia for a decade we never knew, but a quiet longing for permanence.
“MORE THAN ANTIQUES, THEIR STORIES STILL QUIETLY REMAIN.”
THE LIVES THEY KNEW These objects have become more than antiques. They are witnesses. They stood quietly in the corners of family rooms, traveled across state lines, celebrated holidays, survived moves, and outlasted the people who once considered them ordinary. They remind us that the things we keep aren’t treasured for their rarity or price. Their value comes from the fingerprints of a life well lived. Their stories remain. Not to tell us what life looked like, but to remind us how it felt. And perhaps that’s why they’re still worth keeping.

Why one of the most overlooked design decisions has the power to shape an entire home
Flooring does more than complete a room. It shapes how a home looks, feels, and functions for years to come. We asked the experts at Floor Daddy to share the insights they hope every homeowner knows before choosing one of the most important design decisions they'll make.
What's the biggest mistake homeowners make when choosing new flooring? Many people treat flooring as the final design decision, when it should really be one of the first. Flooring connects every room, influences how light moves through a space, and creates the visual foundation for

the entire home. Choosing it early helps everything else, from cabinetry to paint colors, feel more cohesive. Why does flooring have such a big impact on how a home feels? Flooring affects far more than appearance. It influences light, sound, comfort, and the overall flow of a home. Because it runs continuously beneath every room, it creates a sense of rhythm and connection that homeowners often notice only after it's installed. How do you help homeowners choose flooring that fits their lifestyle? Every recommendation begins with an in-home consultation. Seeing the home's natural light, existing finishes, and traffic patterns allows us to recommend materials that fit both the homeowner's design vision and the way they actually live. We also consider children, pets, entertaining, cleaning habits, and long-term plans before suggesting products. What do homeowners most often regret after installation? The most common disappointments come from prioritizing appearance or price over how the flooring will actually perform in the home. A small sample may look beautiful, but it can feel completely different once installed throughout an entire home. Proper preparation and installation are equally important. Even the best flooring performs poorly if the foundation beneath it isn't properly prepared. Are there flooring trends homeowners should be cautious about? Trends come and go, but flooring is a long-term investment. We encourage homeowners to avoid selecting materials simply because they're popular online. Timeless colors, natural variation, and balanced textures tend to remain beautiful for years, while highly stylized finishes can quickly feel dated. What's the one piece of advice every homeowner should hear before replacing their floors? Never choose flooring from a showroom sample alone. View samples inside your home at different times of day, next to your walls, cabinetry, and furniture. A little extra time before installation can prevent years of frustration. When you've made the right choice, the flooring no longer feels like a separate design element. It simply feels like home.

Classic jewelry isn’t meant to stay in a box. It’s meant to become part of everyday style ARTICLE BY JETT ARREDONDO | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LOUELLA MOY VIVIAN WERNER

Fine jewelry is one of the few possessions designed to outlive the moment it was purchased. The proposal lasts an afternoon. The wedding lasts a day. A celebration comes and goes. But the jewelry remains. Most fashion is designed for a moment. Fine jewelry is designed for a lifetime. The most beautiful pieces aren't defined by the occasion that first brought them into someone's life. They evolve with the person who wears them, adapting to changing wardrobes, changing seasons, and changing styles without ever losing their timeless appeal. For jewelry designer and stylist Myranda, timeless style isn't about chasing what's new. It's about giving meaningful pieces a place in today's wardrobe, allowing heirlooms to feel as current as the clothes they're paired with. "Keep everything else clean and modern," she says. "Pair a vintage cocktail ring with a tailored blazer, an oversized white button-down, or a simple black dress. Let one incredible heirloom be the star while the rest of your look stays effortless. That's where timeless meets today's fashion." It's a philosophy that reimagines heirlooms, not as precious objects reserved for special occasions, but as everyday pieces meant to be worn, enjoyed, and reinterpreted. A piece with decades of history doesn't have to feel traditional. It can feel unmistakably current simply through the way it's styled. That freedom to reinterpret classic jewelry is what inspires Myranda most. CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E .C O M / T E M P E

"I love a vintage diamond brooch on a denim jacket, or even pinned to a tie. Antique pearls with a leather jacket. An heirloom bracelet stacked next to a modern tennis bracelet and your favorite watch. Luxury today is all about confidence, not rules." In the end, that's what gives heirloom jewelry its lasting appeal. It isn't confined to a particular decade or defined by a single occasion. It continues to find new life through the people who wear it, proving that great style isn't about replacing the past. It's about making it your own. Because the most timeless looks aren't created by following trends. They're created by wearing pieces that tell your story, beautifully blending the past with the present.

A BLEND OF FASHION AND FUNCTION 26
FASH ION F OR WA R D | STYLE + BE AU T Y
A purse does more than hold your phone, keys, and wallet. It quietly pulls an outfit together while also handling the practical side of everyday life. That balance between fashion and function is what makes a great purse feel less like an accessory and more like part of a personal style. Some bags are designed to stand out. A bold color, metallic detail, or structured shape can instantly become the statement piece of an outfit. Even with simple jeans and a white T-shirt, the right purse adds personality and intention. Other times, a purse works best when it blends in. Neutral tones, soft leather, or minimalist designs create a polished look without stealing attention from the rest of the outfit. These subtle bags are often the ones people reach for every day because they work with almost everything. CONTINUED >

Of course, style only goes so far if a purse is impractical. The best bags are the ones that fit real life. A roomy tote helps someone move from work meetings to errands without missing a beat. Even a small clutch has a purpose for evenings out when only the essentials matter. Fashion trends may change every season, but the role of a purse stays the same. It adapts while still serving a purpose. That’s why people often invest in bags they truly love. A good purse is dependable, but it also can make a fashion statement. In many ways, a purse is one of the few accessories that people use every single day. It carries necessities, reflects personal style, and can completely change the tone of an outfit. Whether bold and eye-catching or simple and understated, a purse proves that fashion and function can exist beautifully together.
