This month, we celebrate the women who shape, inspire, and uplift our Tempe community. Behind every storefront, every classroom, and every act of service, there is a woman making an impact. She may be the small business owner building something from the ground up, the educator shaping young minds, the dentist providing care, or the community leader advocating for change. She may be working behind the scenes to keep our city running, leading initiatives that bring people together, or creating opportunities that uplift those around her.
Women do so much for our community—often balancing careers, families, passions, and responsibilities while still finding ways to support and uplift one another. They lead, they create, they nurture, and they fight for change. And perhaps most importantly, they show up—for their businesses, their families, their community, and the people who rely on them.
For this issue, I had the privilege of capturing the strength and spirit of these remarkable women. Each portrait reflects a story of perseverance, leadership, and heart—a testament to the impact they make every day. Their dedication is woven into the fabric of our community, and their voices fill these pages—offering inspiring glimpses into the lasting impact they have on Tempe.
It was a privilege to capture even a small part of their journey. I hope that as you read, you feel as inspired as I did standing behind the lens.
With gratitude,

Tempe is home to incredible women who bring passion, dedication, and heart to everything they do. In this special feature, we celebrate 14 women who share a glimpse into their lives—their journeys, their families, their careers, and what brings them joy.
Some are business owners, educators, and community leaders. Others find fulfillment in their families, personal passions, and the connections they build. Each story is unique, but together, they reflect the many ways women contribute to the fabric of our city.
As you read their words, we hope you feel a sense of connection and appreciation for the women who make Tempe such a vibrant, welcoming place.
Executive Director, Tempe Community Council
"My work in Tempe is all about community connections—it’s in my DNA! Born in Chicago, I was inspired by my grandmother’s deep community involvement, and my mother often says I remind her of Nana. With nearly 20 years in the nonprofit sector, this passion has always been my why."
Octavia finds joy in the beach—its restorative and calming nature, the perfect spot for reading, and a place to enjoy with family and friends. Hapuna Beach on the Big Island is a favorite. She has been married to her husband, Mark, for 20 years, and together they have two sons, Denzel and Ian, as well as Venus, their 6-year-old rescue Goldendoodle from Mexico.

The RFP Success Company
Lisa and her dogs, Oliver and Tuckaroo, are proud to call Tempe home. “I’ve always been inspired by the genuine sense of togetherness in this city. When I first moved here, I heard stories of neighbors and businesses lifting each other up, and I knew I wanted to be part of that spirit.”
When Lisa started her business, she became more involved in the community. “That connection reinforced my belief that when we work together, our community thrives.” She is an active member of the Tempe Chamber and its Women in Business Council and has led the Chamber’s mentoring program for the past three years. Her team has also adopted a street in Tempe.
Looking ahead, Lisa is preparing to launch a SaaS platform for small business RFP responders. As for her bucket list? “Finding my lifetime partner and taking a trip to the Maldives.”
Tamar’s desire to serve the community led her to the Tempe Police Department, where she found countless opportunities to make a meaningful impact. She has served in Tempe for over 10 years in several assignments, including a bike officer, narcotics, DEA Task Force, and SWAT. She cherishes the connections and interactions she has with the men, women, children, and families she encounters daily. “I am committed to giving my all in everything I do, always striving to do the right thing, improve, and make a positive impact.”
Finding Joy? “Supervising my amazing squad of patrol officers, watching them grow, learn, and develop skills and camaraderie. I also enjoy just being at home with my pups.”
Something most people don’t know about you? “I used to be an Arizona Cardinals Cheerleader. I also used to be a professional mascot for the Superbowl.”
Look2Brooke Group at REAL Brokers
"Tempe is more than just where I live and work—it’s where I’ve built a life deeply rooted in community. As a neighborhood realtor, I help families find homes where they can put down roots, just as I have. My children attend public schools in the Kyrene School District and Tempe Union High School District, and I love being an active part of their school communities. Our home is also a safe haven for foster dogs, providing them with love and stability until they find their forever families."
Brooke has big plans for the future: “I plan to complete my PhD and use my expertise to empower more women to invest in real estate and build generational wealth.”
One of her greatest joys? “Visiting my daughter in college in NYC. I love exploring the city with her and creating new memories together.”
Tempe Elementary Schools- Carminati Elementary
“I am a proud fourth-generation Tempean, closely connected to this wonderful community. I attended local schools, played city sports, and was actively involved in church activities.
My inspiration to make a difference in my community comes from my family’s deep-rooted commitment to service. Both of my parents were educators in Tempe and took on leadership roles throughout the community, setting an example of dedication and impact. My grandmother instilled in me a strong sense of pride and work ethic, reinforcing the importance of hard work and service. My commitment to serving Tempe stems from my family’s legacy of community involvement.
Following in their footsteps, I have spent over 20 years serving Tempe Schools, volunteering at city events, and supporting local education initiatives. I believe meaningful change begins with active engagement, and I remain committed to continuing this tradition—working to strengthen and uplift the community we call home.”

Her inspiration comes from making a difference. “I love helping people become the best version of themselves. Whether it’s anti-aging, acne, or weight loss, my business is built on being the stepping stone to guide my clients. The young community is especially close to my heart, and I love helping kids through their acne journey.”
When it comes to giving back, Neos is deeply involved in the community—sponsoring youth sports like ice hockey and roller hockey, and donating to local schools such as Cielo and Corona Del Sol.

ROSA INCHAUSTI
City Manager, City of Tempe
"I've held various positions within the city over my 30-year tenure, giving me a broad understanding of city operations. My drive to make a difference in my community comes from my parents, both Cuban immigrants, who instilled in me the values of hard work and service."
Something that brings you joy? "My family and friends. While I serve in a very public role, I tend to be a private person. I have two amazing adult daughters and an adorable one-year-old grandson—with another grandson on the way! Our family also wouldn’t be complete without our beloved golden retrievers—Jax, Murphy, and Harper. I’m incredibly proud of my daughters and the strong, beautiful women they’ve become. And being an Abuela? It’s the absolute best!"
Interesting fact? "I’ve only ever lived in warm states, and I plan to keep it that way! I was born in Florida, raised in California, and now call Arizona home."
BECKY LYNN
KTAR 92.3 FM
Becky and her family have called Tempe home since late 1999. "I recently discovered that I’m related to Tempe founder Charles Hayden on my mother’s side. I’m married to Bill Ottinger, and we have two wonderful kids, Madison and Luke—not to mention our darling (and very judgy) cat, Agnes. Madison currently leads Tempe Youth Leadership, and Luke, better known as 'Mr. O,' is the choir director at Marcos de Niza High School."
"Volunteering is a big part of our family. I believe it not only helps others but enriches your own life as well! When our kids were younger, I was actively involved in their schools, church groups, National Charity League, and the choir and theater programs at KMS and MdN. These days, I’m often asked to emcee fundraising events for some of my favorite nonprofits in Tempe, and I absolutely love doing it!"
Words to live by? "There are seven days in a week. ‘Someday’ isn’t one of them!"
“My husband, Todd Maney, and our daughters, Anna and Cate, love calling Tempe home. We live in South Tempe with our two pups, Roxie and Roscoe—a Golden Retriever and a Chihuahua. Todd and I moved to Arizona nearly 23 years ago and chose Tempe for its incredible public schools, active lifestyle, and the perfect blend of small-town community feel with big-city amenities.”
On giving back to the community: "My daughters and I have spent countless hours volunteering through the East Valley Chapter of National Charity League—it’s been a meaningful way to connect and give back."
What brings you joy? "I would have always said hiking, reading a great book, traveling, or laughing with friends. But when my oldest daughter came home from college for her first winter break, and our whole family was simply sitting on the couch together, my heart almost burst with joy. Just having everyone together means everything."
